The house was tided, everyone was ready and Khushi was highly annoyed. She wanted to spend time with her husband but now, his friend was coming to stay with them for a couple of days. Great (!)
“Khushi you’ll honestly love her, she’s the best!”
Khushi smiled and nodded. She wasn’t convinced. As much as she wanted to meet Arnav’s friend Sheetal, she didn’t want to meet her. She was so worried she wouldn’t live up to his friends expectations.
A little while later there was a knock at the door and Arnav rushed to open it. He looked like a little kid, super excited to see his friend.
He opened the door and a tall, slim woman walked in. She could have been a model.
“Arnie. It’s so good to see you again.”
“It’s been such a long time, come in!”
Arnav led Sheetal into the house and let her have a seat.
“So what brings you back to India after such a long time?”
“I was just missing everyone so much. I haven’t seen my friends and family in a really long time and I felt as though I should come back for a while.”
“How long are you staying?”
“Only about a month.”
“And you are staying at our house for a couple of days aren’t you?”
“Of course! How can I come to India and not stay at yours. And I have to meet your wife don’t I! I can’t believe you got married Arnie.”
“I can’t either. But you know what, I’m glad I did marry Khushi, she’s made me so happy.”
“Khushi has made you khushi.”
“Yes basically.
Payal brought out tea and snacks for Arnav and his friend and couldn’t help but smile. She still hadn’t had time to speak to Khushi properly, but just by looking at her sister, she knew that things had changed between her and Arnav and that they had changed for the better.
“Where is she then, this Khushi of yours?”
“Payal, could you go and call Khushi down please?”
“Ji bhai.”
Payal went upstairs and notified Khushi that Arnav was looking for her. Khushi nodded. She began to leave the room when Payal stopped her.
“What is it jiji?”
“Before you go, tell me one thing, have you and Arnav bhai consummated?”
“JIJI!”
“Just tell me! I’ve asked you so many times before.”
Khushi looked away and blushed shyly. Payal smirked and playfully slapped Khushi on the arm.
“You’ve finally done it then.”
“Yes jiji, we have.”
“Go now, we’ll talk about it all later.”
Khushi shook her head and rushed off. As much as it was embarrassing to talk to her jiji about these things, she knew this is what sisters did, they talked about things that they couldn’t talk to anyone else about. Maybe she would talk to Payal. Not about all things, but definitely somethings.
Khushi was in her own little world as she made her way down the stairs. Sheetal looked up and saw Khushi coming down and couldn’t help but feel her smile slide away slightly. Arnav got to his feet and made his way over to Khushi. He wrapped his arm around her waist and Khushi smiled. He led her over to Sheetal and they sat down and that’s when Khushi saw her…
*****
“Khushi, what the hell was that about?”
“I’m sorry I just…”
“That was so god damn rude!”
“Arnav…”
“You do not just get up and rush off like that when you’re meeting someone important to me!”
Khushi looked down, tears brimming in her eyes. Arnav saw this and he couldn’t help but feel his heart break a little. Maybe he was being a bit harsh on her. He lifted Khushi’s chin with his finger.
“Hey hey, don’t cry. I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to be so harsh.”
“No no, you’re right. I shouldn’t have left like that.”
“It’s nothing I just… Felt really awkward.”
“I understand, its fine. I’m sorry I was so hard on you. I get it it’s a little awkward for you to meet new people, I’m sorry baby.”
Khushi hugged Arnav and he held her close, breathing in her soft scent. They broke apart slowly and Arnav looked at the time.
“You’re probably really tired. We haven’t really had time to rest since we got back and it’s pretty late now. You should go to sleep.”
“What about you?”
“Let me just show Sheetal to her room and then I’ll come to bed. Have you got to go back to college tomorrow?”
Khushi nodded. She’d kind of forgotten about college. But she was excited to get back and see all her friends.
Arnav left and she could hear him apologizing on Khushi’s behalf. She hated that he had to say sorry. Especially to her.
*****
It was 7am the next morning, Khushi was awake and ready for the day ahead of her. She got out of bed and looked at her slumbering husband, he looked so innocent while he was sleeping. She carefully got out of bed and started to get ready.
At half 7, she was ready and dressed. Arnav too was awake now and starting to get ready. Khushi made her way downstairs and went into the kitchen where she bumped straight into Sheetal.
“Watch it!”
“I’m so sorry.”
“Ah. Khushi.”
Khushi looked up at Sheetal. Normally she wouldn’t be that much taller than Khushi, but right now, she was wearing 6 inch heels so she was towering over Khushi.
“It’s good to see you again. How have you been holding up?”
“I…”
“Tell me. How did you manage to bag Arnav?”
Khushi looked down, not knowing what to say.
“So you haven’t changed much then.”
“What do you mean?”
“You’re still a small scrawny little crap that can’t defend herself.”
“I…”
“What are you going to do, rush off and hide like you always do.”
“Please leave me alone.”
“You should just leave Khushi. Arnav could never love someone like you, you’re not his type.”

Authors note: So I hope you enjoyed that! As you can tell, a new bump in the story has arrived. It’s evident Khushi and Sheetal already know each other, but how? Do let me know what your ideas are and I shall see you all again very soon!
