Scars ~ Part 21

The next morning, Khushi woke up before Arnav and she looked to Arnav. She smiled and looked at her hand. They’d gone to sleep cuddling, but they must have pulled apart during the night, but he was still holding her hand. He kept his promise, he didn’t let her go. Khushi smiled and get her cheeks blush.

“He’s so beautiful.”

And that’s when Khushi noticed it. He was shirtless. When did this happen? They’d gone to sleep and he had a shirt on and now he didn’t. Khushi’s eyes widened and she checked under the covers and saw all her clothes were just as they had been last night, so nothing like that happened.

“I felt hot, so I took my t-shirt off.”

“When did you wake up.”

“When you started moving the covers.”

“I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to wake you.”

“It’s alright.”

Khushi got out of bed and went into the bathroom and Arnav smiled.

I will make your marriage official and I will let the world know you’re my wife. So everyone who ever made you feel like crap and eat their words. You’re educated, beautiful and you’re the wife of the great ASR. Arnav smiled and fell back into bed and then his smile slowly slid away. Maya…

*****

“Good morning Khushi! Did you sleep well?”

“I slept great Di, you?”

“Yes I slept well too. But the stress of this paperwork.”

“Would you like some help?”

“I may need your help a little later, but right now I just need to go through all these application forms.”

“What are they for?”

“They’re for the new head care worker job.”

“At the orphanage?”

“Yes, Mrs Chadda resigned all of a sudden a couple of weeks ago and I’ve had temporary people in for a quite a while.”

“Mrs Chadda resigned?”

“Yes, all of a sudden as well. She’d been doing the job for years so I don’t understand what happened and she won’t say much. She just says she’s realised she didn’t care for the children as well as she would have done and due to that she feels as though the best thing for her to do is step down.”

At that point Arnav came down and overheard the conversation, he smiled to himself.

“Khushi, you were there for a long time, what did you think of Mrs Chadda?”

“Di… I… I need to get Arnavji’s food ready.”

“His foods ready, please sit and help me, tell me what she was like, I always thought she was a pleasant person.”

At this point Khushi sat down at the table and Arnav came and sat beside her.

“I don’t really know what to say Di.”

“How was she like with you?”

Khushi’s eyes filled with tears and Arnav put his hand in hers.

“Khushi… It’s okay, if you don’t want to talk about it Di will understand.”

Khushi wiped her eyes and she started telling Anjali her story.

“Mrs Chadda was… She was very dominating and she was an authoritarian. Everything had to be done her way. Whatever she said to the matrons they did.

She… She particularly disliked me. I honestly don’t know why Di, but right from the start, it seemed as though she hated me. There were others who she was quite rude towards but I felt like she targeted me. Whenever I got a bad report card, she’d beat me, if I got home from school a little late, even if it was only a matter of a couple of minutes, she wouldn’t let me have dinner. I waited turn 16 and so I could leave, but then of course I realised I had no where to go. No one would give me a job and I couldn’t afford anything. And so I asked Mrs Chadda for a job at the orphanage. That way, I would have a place to stay, I would get food and I’d also have some money coming in.”

“But I was told that you worked for free, that you were doing it for the experience?”

“Mrs Chadda said that she wouldn’t pay me and that I owned her this in return for all the years that she cared for me.”

This is where Arnav intervened.

“Di would did you have such a woman in charge?”

“When I took charge, Mrs Chadda had already been working there for years, the previous owner had said that she was really good and that she was great with the kids. The staff all told me there would be no reason to ever have to worry about replacing her and none of the kids I spoke to ever said anything against her.”

Payal had been listening from the kitchen and now joined the group around the table. How much more did Khushi have to suffer? Payal placed her hands on Khushi’s shoulders and gave them a squeeze.

Khushi wiped her tears and went into the kitchen and Payal followed her.

“Khushi, do you want to go shopping with me after you get home from college? It’s been a while since we last spent time together.”

“Okay…”

“And Papa said to tell you he’d like it if you went round one day.”

“I… Jiji, I really can’t Maasi…”

“Forget about mom. Dad and Buaji really want to see you, they really miss you Khushi.”

“Maybe one day, just not yet.”

“Okay, whenever you’re ready.”

Khushi ate her breakfast and then rushed off to college. It was the only day when she didn’t have a photography lesson and so she was in college all day. When she got there, Lavanya and Amrita informed her that all their lessons for the day had been cancelled.

“So Khushi, me, you and La are going to the cinema today!”

“Cinema?”

“Yes!”

“What about the boys?”

“Raj and Tom are having a boys day out, they rarely spend time together any more and we don’t see much of you because you’re always so busy. So come on.”

Khushi smiled and the three friends went off into town. On there way to the cinema Khushi bumped into Shashi. She told her friends to go on ahead without here.

“Khushi beta? You here at this time?”

“My classes have been canceled and so me and my friends have come to see a film.”

“How have you been?”

“I’ve been good, you Mausaji?”

“I’ve missed you my dear, I was telling Payal only the other day she should bring you round one day.”

“I’ve been busy with work and college and then with everything at home. Hows everyone at home?”

“They’re all good my dead, all good. Jiji misses you.”

“I will call Buaji and speak to her. Mausaji, I really have to go now, my friends are waiting for me.”

Khushi took her leave and Shashi watched her go. If only his wife stopped being so stubborn, everything would be so different.

Khushi joined her friends and they watched a film together. When the film ended, Amrita suggested shopping.

“Let me call my sister. She wanted us to go shopping so I’ll just let her know I’m already here. You guys don’t mind her joining us, do you?”

“Of course not.”

Khushi called Payal and explained how she was already in town and Payal said she’d be there shortly.

The girls went and had a coffee and that’s when Payal joined. Khushi introduced her friends to Payal and that’s when Lavanya gasped.

“Khushi, you never told us your cousin was the wife of Akash Singh Raizada!”

“How do you know Jiju?”

“Why wouldn’t we know your Jiju? He’s the cousin and right hand man of the great Arnav Singh Raizada. Payal ji, can I just say I loved the issue of India’s Hottest when you and Akash were on the cover!”

“Please, just call me Payal.”

“Jiji? You never told me you were on a magazine cover!?”

“I think I have have that issue Khushi, I’ll find it for you. Yeah it was great, I loved your interview.”

“Why thank you ladies.”

They all spoke for a little while and then hit the shops. Some time passed and then La had to leave because she needed to go somewhere and so Amrita left with her.

“It was nice meeting you Payal and Khushi, watch what we do to you when we get to college next time. You never told us you LIVED with ASR!”

Khushi’s friends left.

“Jiji, they weren’t meant to know about me and Arnav ji.”

“They don’t. They just think you’re my sister and I wanted you to come and live with me because it was easier for everyone. People are allowed to know you live with us, they just can’t know about you and Bhai. Khushi has he said anything about making the official statement about you guys?”

Khushi shook her head sadly and Payal sighed.

“Hang in there Khushi, it’ll all be okay, I promise you.”

“I think it will Jiji, I think it will…”

Unwanted ~ Part 4

Arnav

We were on out way back from Khushi’s parents house. We had a great time there. Her mother cooked lots and lots of great food and we sat and spoke to Payal for ages. But now we were on our way back home so that we could get ready and leave for the airport.

“Where are we going on honeymoon?”

“Bali.”

“We’re going Bali?! No way! That’s so cool!”

“Di picked the location.”

“Di has a great taste in everything clearly.”

“Her and Jiju went Bali for their honeymoon and she loved it and so she assumed we’d like it too.”

“It’s going to be great!”

We  got home and everyone asked us if we had a good time. I just wanted to go to our room and get our things together and leave to be completely honest. I’d been looking forward to this for so long. I’d fianlly be able to spend some time with Nimi again. With the wedding and everything, I hadn’t seen her much and I was really missing her.

We they finally let us go, me and Khushi went off to our room and we started packing our bags. Most of her stuff was still packed any way so she didn’t need to do much. But even then, Khushi took clothes out of her big suitcase and put it in her smaller one.

Once we were finally packed and ready, we both took our leave. Di told us to enjoy ourselves as much as she and Jiju did and Khushi simply smiled. Hell yeah we were going to have a good time. Once in the car Khushi turned to me.

“What time do we have to be at the airport.”

“Whenever we’re ready to go.”

“What?”

“We’re taking my private jet.”

“Your private jet!? You have a private jet!?”

“Don’t tell me you didn’t know I had a private jet?”

“No I didn’t know.”

“Well now you do. So lets hit the road!”

I started the engine and we were off. Nimisha called me and so I put it on speaker phone and answered.

“Hey Nimi!”

“Arnav, where are you?”

“On our way to get to my jet.”

“You’re going today?”

“Yeah, you’re joining us in 4 days time right?”

“Yeah I’m coming.”

“That’s great, can’t wait to see you and again and Khushi too is eager to meet you.”

“I’m looking forward to meeting her too.”

“Did you call for a specific reason?”

“Not really, just wanted to check you were okay.”

“I’m fine, you?”

“Great. Anyways, I have to go Arnav, I guess I’ll see you in a couple of days, love you.”

“Love you too.”

And I disconnected the call. Khushi turned the radio on and got the window to go down.

It was a little while later we got to AR and I parked the car in my garage and then we made our way out back to the jet. I hadn’t traveled via the jet in a while. When the small group of the crew saw us, they opened the doors and got the pilot to get ready. The took our luggage and loaded everything up and we got in and took our seats.

“Holy crap! This jet is bigger than… Bigger than… Bigger than anything I’ve ever traveled in.”

“I’m guessing you’re impressed Khushi.”

“Of course I am, this is amazing.”

“Sir, ma’am, please take your seats and buckle up, the captain said ready to take off.”

Khushi looked around, like a child in a candy store, unable to pick a seat and then came and sat next to me. She got her seat belt on and we listened to the short message from the captain and then we were off. Khushi grabbed my hand at some point and squeezed really tightly.

“I’ve never flown before.”

“Are you scared?”

“A little.”

I put my arm around her and she hid her face in my chest. When we had fully taken off and we were now flying straight, Khushi slowly came out again and sat properly.

“You feeling okay?”

“Yeah, its not as scary as before.”

“Want to watch a film?”

“Yeah sure, what you got?”

“What would you like to watch?”

“Maine Pyaar Kyune Kiya?”

“Salman Khan film with his brother and Katrina?”

“Yeah.”

“You like that?”

“It’s got Salman Khan in it so yeah.”

“Ah Salman Khan fan?”

“He’s my husband, so I love him.”

“Excuse me?”

“You heard me Raizada, Salman Khan is my husband.”

I laughed and she laughed too. This girl was crazy, but she a lot of fun too. We watched the film together on the large screen and I have to admit I did enjoy it.

The flight wasn’t too long, so it was a little after the film ended we were preparing to land. Khushi once again got scared.

“Scared of landing too?”

“A little.”

I put my arm around her again and she again hid and I held her close. She smelt so fresh and floral and nice. We landed without any hiccups and we got off the jet. Once we got out, there was a man from the hotel we’d be staying at waiting for us.

“Welcome Mr and Mrs Raizada to Bali. I am Jimmy and I am here to take you to the hotel.”

Jimmy led us into what looked like a golf cart and he took us to a large hotel which was about 5 minutes away. When we got there Khushi looked up and gasped, it was a tall building and the top floor was completely glass.

“Damn, its pretty.”

“Glad you like it ma’am.”

The guy led us into the building and got a bus boy to take our stuff up to our room. Once we were signed in, we got our key and then we were escorted up.

“Ma’am did Sir tell you you have the penthouse apartment?”

“We what!?”

Khushi’s head snapped round and she turned to me.

“We have the penthouse?”

“Yeah.”

The floor that’s all glass?”

“That’s right.”

Oh my goodness! Arnav! That’s amazing.”

She launched herself at me and hugged me and the escort looked away, he probably thought we were going to start making out or something. I held her close and breathed in her scent and there it was again, that floral smell that overwhelmed me once more. She pulled away and smiled.

“Penthouse that’s all glass! This is going to be great!”

We got to the top and the doors of the lift opened. Khushi walked out before me and the escort. She was starstruck to say the least.

“I’m going to explore.”

She walked off and the guy explained things to me.

“Everything that’s already here is complimentary and if you need room service just dial 1 from the phone. No one other than yourself and us can get to this floor, so when you leave and get in the life that floor locks down. When you want to come back up, you have to swipe your key card on the left panel on the lift and it’ll bring you up here. Everything is fully functioning and you have your own kitchen. So if you and Mrs Raizada wish to cook you can as all ingredients you may need can be found in the kitchen, however you could all the main kitchen and they’ll prepare whatever you like. That’s about all. Would you like to ask me anything.”

“Yeah would it be possible to be supplied with sedatives?”

“Sedatives?”

“I don’t think she’s going to be able to sleep here.”

The escort laughed and he took his leave. I went looking for Khushi. She’d seen just about everything and I found her in the master bedroom. I found her standing in front of the large window which overlooked all of Bali.

“Arnav look, I can see the beach from here!”

“You want to hit the beach?”

“Maybe a little later.”

I looked around the room, there were rose petals dotted all around the room and the whole room was simple, yet so elegant.

“Arnav, look up!”

I looked up. The roof was made of glass and so we could see the bright blue sky. Khushi came and stood next to me.

“At night, we’d be able to see the stars.”

“I like looking at stars.”

“Arnav Singh Raizada, likes looking at stars?”

“Why do you think my poolside has a glass roof? It’s so I can see the stars.”

“We can look at stars together.”

“I’d like that.”

I smiled to her and we got a bite to eat.

“Come on Raizada! I want to hit the beach!”

“Let’s go then.”

Khushi quickly opened her suitcase and pulled out a beach bag and stuffed it with her towel .

“Should I wear my bikini under my dress now, are should I get changed when we get there?”

“You, in a bikini? Wait, you have a bikini?”

“Obviously, I brought a couple when I went wedding shopping, Jiji said we’d go on honeymoon and it would be most likely somewhere where there’s sea. So yeah.”

“You can get changed when you get there.”

“Alright.”

So we grabbed out things and we left for the beach…

Scars ~ Part 20

Weeks had passed and Arnav didn’t have any more ideas as to what he could do for Khushi. He’d watched how Raj and Khushi worked together and it was clear, Raj truly did care about Khushi, but Khushi just wasn’t interested.

The tension between Arnav and Khushi had started to diffuse and she was more willing to speak to him again, but Arnav was worried if he tried asking her anything, she wouldn’t say what he wanted to hear.

It was late one night when Arnav had an idea. One which he hoped would help to bring Khushi out of her shell. She was still downstairs helping with the tidying up after dinner and so Arnav took this time to dig out his old high school photo album and began to look through it. It was then that Khushi walked in.

“You done for the night?”

Khushi nodded and took her night cloths and went into the bathroom. Arnav sat on the side of the bed. Khushi came out and looked at him.

“Oh are you going to sleep in the bed today?”

“What? Oh no, I was just looking through this album of mine, would you like to see the pictures too?”

Khushi thought for a moment and then nodded and sat down beside him.

“Are these from when you were little.”

“No they’re pictures from when I was in high school.”

Arnav could feel Khushi get a little more uneasy and he could feel her body tense up, but he acted as though he didn’t notice. He started flicking through the album and pointed different things out to Khushi, who got more and more tense as time went on.

“And that’s a picture when I left high school. Do you have any pictures from when you were at school.”

“No.”

“Oh, but you must have many memories, you have to share some with me.”

“Do I?”

“Well I’d like to know.”

“I hated high school, so I’d rather not speak about it.”

“You hated it? Why?”

Khushi stood up and looked away.

“I don’t want to talk about it.”

“Please tell me Khushi. I really do want to get to know more about you and I want to help you forget all bad memories and help you start afresh.”

Khushi turned around and sat back down.

“Please don’t judge me.”

“I won’t, I promise you.”

Khushi sighed, took a deep breath and then she started telling her story.

“When I was at primary school everything was great, even when I started high school things were okay, but then when I was about 14 it all started. Older girls from the sixth form started saying things about me. One of them had seen me go back to the orphanage one day and she told all her friends.  The next morning they were all waiting for me on the playing field. They teased me about the fact I didn’t have parents and the fact that none of my relative wanted me. It didn’t help that I was a geek with glasses, that just added to the things they could say. There was this one girl though… She  was the worst. I can’t remember her name now, but she would always pick on me, pull my hair, there was even a time she broke my glasses.”

“Did you tell anyone?”

“I didn’t have anyone to tell. When all this started happening, all my friends stopped being my friends because they were worried they’d get bullied too and I couldn’t tell the teachers because they wouldn’t believe me.”

“Why wouldn’t they?”

“Because these girls were in the sixth form, about to leave for university, they were the ones who never got caught doing anything bad, they were meant to be our role models.”

“But if they were soon to leave, when they left didn’t it all just end.”

“No, because teasing little orphaned Khushi was something that got passed on. When the first lot left, the next set of senior years did the same thing. I became the entire schools target.”

“But surely as time went on it would have gotten better?”

“It really didn’t Arnavji, it really didn’t. When I was 15 it peaked, reached it’s all time worst.”

Khushi looked at her hands and Arnav could see her tears come down fast. He put an arm around her, to comfort her, show her that he was there for her. He wanted her to know that he wanted to protect her now.

“Khushi, I know this is hard for you, but please, tell me, it helps to shares things.”

“For a while, things died down and then one day I was on my way home when a group of seniors were following me. I didn’t know what to do. I mean I could run but they would be faster than me. I acted as though I hadn’t noticed them and tried to speed up. I was then walking through an alley way when one of the guys grabbed me and pushed me into the wall…”

Khushi stopped and Arnav felt a lump in his own throat.

“Boys… Boys bullied you as well?”

Khushi nodded and she started crying.

“I was only 15 at the time… I was so scared when he grabbed me. I’d heard about what boys did to lone girls in dark alley ways and the one we were in was really dark. All the other boys and girls just stood there watching him and they… They laughed Arnavji. They just stood there laughing at me.”

Arnav didn’t realise when, but his hold on Khushi tightened and he felt the anger bubbling away inside him.

“Did he… Did he do anything to you?”

Khushi’s eyes filled with fright and she hid her face in her hands.

“He touched me. My face, my hands, my body, my… My breasts. I told him to get off me, I looked to the other girls and pleaded and they all just laughed at me. I was so scared, I didn’t know what was going to happen. I tried to push him off me, I really did Arnavji, but I just couldn’t. And that was when he stopped and moved off me, but he didn’t let me go. He told me that I should get used to being treated like that, get used to being touched like that. He said that girls like me all ended up as either sex slaves or as prostitutes because they couldn’t get an education, or did they have anywhere to go and so they have no other option. He let me go and told me that if he ever saw me again, he’d finish what he started…”

At this point Khushi broke down completely and Arnav didn’t know what to do. He took Khushi into his arms and hugged her. He stroked her back, trying to comfort her. Khushi pulled away from him a few moments later.

“After that, I stayed away from school for a while, but I had to go back at some point. I kept a low profile, only attending my lessons. I didn’t even go out for lunch. After that day it really did die down. Once I got to the end of year 11, so I was 16 at the time, i withdrew myself and I didn’t go back the next year. I couldn’t risk going through all that again.”

“Khushi… God dammit Khushi, you went through all of that on your own?”

Khushi nodded sadly. Arnav took her hands in his.

“Let me tell you one thing now, what those scumbags did to you is unacceptable and one day they will get their comeuppance. What that ba***rd said to you about ‘girls like you’ isn’t true. Heck, you’re one of the smartest girls I’ve ever met, the grades you left school with are amazing. The ones that made your life hell are the ones at a disadvantage, with their narrow minded views. Do you think they’ll ever be happy or successful? Not a chance in the world.”

Khushi smiled and hugged Arnav again.

“Thank you. Thank you for not thinking I’m a little s**t…”

“Never use that word! You’re a god sent gift.”

After the longest time, Arnav and Khushi broke apart and Arnav got off the bed.

“It’s gotten late, we should go to sleep…”

“Please don’t leave me.”

“Leave you?”

“Stay with me, please.”

“Khushi…”

“I don’t want much, just please, sleep in the bed with me. You don’t have to come near me, I just want to know you’re still there because… Because you make me feel safe. Please Arnavji.”

Arnav nodded and got into the bed and switched the light off. Khushi too got into bed and switched the little lamp on her side of the bed off. They both stayed away from each other, Arnav at the far end of one side and Khushi on the other. He looked at her back, he was the reason for this distance between them. He was the one that hadn’t wanted to give their relationship a go. But that was changing. Not because he felt sorry for her, or he pitied her, but because he was growing more attached to her, more fond of her. The bubble of anger he felt when she was telling him what happened to her, it wasn’t because of any other reason but because he cared about her. Him wanting to find out her past, it was because he cared for her…

He looked at her. She really was one of the smarted, most innocent and beautiful women he’d ever met. She was so talented.

Was he falling in love with her? But Maya? Arnav lay there, confused about his feelings and then it all clicked into place. The way he felt about Khushi, he had never felt this way about Maya, he had never been so protective, never felt so much like a protector, he never wanted to care for her as much as he cared for Khushi.

Yes, he was falling in love with Khushi and he couldn’t wait to tell her. To finally tell her that he had fallen for her and he now wanted to be her husband. Arnav moved closer to Khushi who he assumed was now asleep and pulled her into his arms. Khushi turned in his arms.

“You’re still awake Khushi?”

“I… Arnavji…”

“Sh, just let me hold you.”

Khushi cuddled into Arnav and hid her face in his chest and smiled. Arnav felt this and his grip on her tightened.

“I swear, I’m never going to let you go now…”

Unwanted ~ Part 3

Khushi

I woke up before Arnav the next morning and thank god I did. I was the one who wanted a partition between us and I was the one who had gone over to his side of the bed.

I always knew I tossed and turned a lot at night, but this was a joke. Sometime in the middle of the night I must have gone over to his side and got tangled in with him. Arnav had his arm thrown over me and his hand was resting on my thigh and then his legs were tangled in with mine. But more to that, I could feel his hard length poking my butt. We were spooning and we didn’t even realise. I carefully moved his hand off me and then tried to untangle my legs. It wasn’t too hard.

I got off the bed and looked at the clock, it wasn’t 8 yet so it was okay. I looked back to Arnav, he looked pretty cute. He had a boyish smirk on his face and his stubble looked a little more rugged now. But all in all, a sexy look to wake up too.

I went back over to my bag and pulled out a sari. Amma had said that I had to wear a sari now that I was married.

I went off into the bathroom and started getting ready. When I was ready and got out of the bathroom, Arnav too was awake.

“Good morning.”

“Morning, did you sleep okay?”

A flashback of how we had woken up, flashed in my mind. Did he know? Oh that was so embarrassing.

“Yeah, I slept fine thanks. Oh and Arnav, when I was in the bathroom I heard your phone ping a couple of times.”

I saw him pick his phone up and he looked through.

“It’s just Nimi.”

“Oh, is she okay with all this?”

“She wasn’t too happy, but she knows this is the only option we’ve got.”

“And she trusts you?”

“What do you mean?”

“Does she know how sexy your wife is?”

“My wife isn’t that sexy, Gupta, so she has no reason to worry.”

“But I heard your wife’s basically a sex bomb.”

“I don’t know who told you that Gupta. But they’re wrong as hell.”

I pretended to be offended and put my hands on my hips and he laughed and I couldn’d help but laugh too. We could have a good 6 months, I mean, even after being the great ASR he knew how to take a joke and he seemed to be someone who would be really calm with most things. Things shouldn’t be too hard.

“So what’s on the agenda today?”

“Well we’re meant to be going back to your parents house and then we’re leaving for honeymoon later this evening.”

“Wait, we’re going this evening?”

“Yup. I haven’t got too long off, so we need to go on honeymoon ASAP.”

“We don’t even need to go on honeymoon though.”

“I know we don’t. But I’ve invited Nimisha to join us there later this week and I couldn’t find how to get in touch with Ranveer. But you can tell him to join us too.”

“Seriously?”

“Yeah.”

“Oh my god! Arnav it’s going to be great, thank youu!”

“I’m glad you approve and no problem. So the plan is for the first 3 or 4 days its just going to be us because in a way we do need to spend some time together and then after that Nimi and Ranveer can join us.”

“Yes I get what you mean and I think it’s going to be fine, I’ll let Ranveer know!”

I rushed over and called Ranveer.

*Hey! Good morning! Ranveer guess what, WE’RE GOING ON HONEYMOON! … I’m this excited because you’re coming with us. … So basically your going to join us there in 4 days time and so is Arnav’s girlfriend and then I guess we’re all going  to go off and do our own thing. You will join us right? … That’s great! I’ll email the rest o the details to you later, love you.*

I disconnected the call and thanked Arnav. He smiled to me, put his phone down and then went into the bathroom and I made my way downstairs. Di was already in the kitchen and I realised I must have been a little later than I would have wanted to be.

“Sorry I’m late Di.”

“Oh you’re not, don’t worry, I always get up before everyone else. Did you sleep well.”

Once again my mind reminded me of how me and Arnav woke up.

“Yes, I slept fine thank you. Would you like me to help you with anything.”

“Oh no no, it’s fine. All you have to do is make your dish and that’s all.”

I was to make kheer for everyone, so I got started, Jiji taught me before the wedding. My mind went to my family and Jiji. How was Jiji feeling? Jiji is just over 2 years older than me and yet I’d gotten married first. When the rishta first came, the Raizada’s were willing to wait until Jiji got married, however Amma, Bauji and Jiji all said that if the Raizada’s wanted me then they weren’t going to put my marriage off. I did feel bad but my parents had said that they really didn’t mind. And I know what Jiji’s like, my happiness means the world to her. But still, I felt a little bad.

“Morning Di.”

“Chote, you’re up too?”

“Of course I am.”

“Come to see your wife cook?”

“Khushi’s cooking?”

“She’s making kheer.”

“I love kheer!”

“I don’t think Khushi’s going to make two different types of kheer on her first day here.”

I turned around.

“Why would I need to make two different types of kheer?

“Chote’s diabetic.”

“Wait, you’re diabetic?”

I turned to Arnav, I could feel my eyes bulging out of my head.

“Didn’t I tell you?”

“No!”

“Didn’t anyone tell you?”

“No!”

“Is this going to cause a problem?”

“Not really, so to make you kheer I have to use a sugar substitute right?”

“Yes, you have to use sweeteners.”

I turned to Di and asked for sweeteners. She told me not to worry about it but I simply said that I wanted to do things properly on my first day and if my husband wanted kheer than I would make him some kheer. Di blessed me and went and took the pot with sweeteners out. She told me how much of it to use because I’d never used this stuff in my life.

I prepared both batches of kheer and I got Arnav to taste his and Di to taste the other one.

“Damn Khushi, this is pretty good. Of course, my Di’s kheer is the best, but Di definitely has competition now!”

“It’s really that good?”

“It’s excellent Khushi, thanks! Looks like Di can retire now.”

Di was watching us and she smiled. She walked closer to us and she took both our hands.

“You see Chote, I told you, I told you Khushi was the perfect girl for you. And I’m so glad you both are embracing your relationship.”

With that, Di left and we both looked at each other. Di thought we were doing this because we accept our marriage? Well we kind of did, but at the same time we knew what we wanted and we knew how our relationship was going to play out.

I could tell Arnav was thinking the same thing and he smiled awkwardly and walked off with his kheer.

It was a little bit later everyone else came down and had breakfast and my kheer went down a hit, everyone loved it. Not bad for a first try. After breakfast me and Arnav got ready and we went to my parents house. Di and Nani sent lots of presents for everyone and I made some more kheer to take for them as well.

We got into the car.

“You okay?”

“Why wouldn’t I be?”

“You know what Di said about us and your relationship.”

“I felt a little bad I guess. I mean Di has so many hopes for us and then there’s us, with it all planned as to how we’re going to end our relationship.”

“Are you having second thoughts now?”

“No way! I love Ranveer and you love Nimisha, we’re doing all this so we can be with them. Why, are you having second thoughts?”

“Of course not. But like you, I’m feeling bad about lying to Di.”

I nodded and he started the car and we were off. He turned on the radio and “Tum Hi Ho” came on. I put the sound up.

“You like this song?”

“Love it,”

The song played on and Khushi hummed to it.

“Does love like that really exist Arnav?”

“Like what?”

“The unconditional love they sing about in this song, not being able to live without someone any more?”

“I guess after time, it happens.”

“I hope to find love like that in mine and Ranveer’s relationship one day…”

When Friendship Becomes Love

I have written this up from my phone at half 3 in the morning, because I couldn’t sleep, so I can assure you this won’t be the best piece of my writing.

When it happened? I don’t know.
How it happened? I don’t know.
All I knew was that I had fallen in love with my best friend.

That friend who had been there for me when I went through a bad break up, that friend who made me feel like I matter when I felt like crap. That friend who told me I was beautiful when the world told me I was hideous. He was the one that told me I could find love, and that I deserved someone who saw the real me, then why was it he who rejected my love?

My name is Khushi Kumari Gupta and I am 19 years old.
My best friend is Arnav Singh Raizada. He too is 19.

So it all began a couple of years ago when we were still in high school. Arnav was in my registration class, so I saw him every morning and every afternoon from the age of 11 to 16. We were classmates but nothing more to begin with.

However when we entered our 4th year of high school at the age of 15, Arnav started going out with Lavanya, who used go be my best friend. We’d fallen out a long time ago and had never tried to make things better. When they got together he knew there was tension between us and so he sorted my relationship with her out. Arnav worked his magic and made us forget the past and then me and Lavanya became close again and I was indebted to Arnav for being the one to sort things out for us.

While Arnav and Lavanya were together I was going through a bad relationship with Shyam. Shyam and Arnav were childhood best friends, and I had had a crush on Shyam from about the age of 13. I knew Shyam liked me too, however his other friends did not and this affected our friendship. It was the year that Arnav and La got together that things between me and Shyam got really bad, however I still hung in there, hoping I could make it work…

It was September of our fifth year and final year at high school. And term had only just started. But Arnav and Lavanya had already broken up. It was then things between me and Shyam peaked and the bullying began. He allowed all his friends to pick on me. I received hateful texts, taunting tweets…
My friends all helped me get Shyam and his friends reported, however the damage was done. My self confidence was close to none existant and I hated school. I found it hard to cope and that’s when Arnav made his full entry.

He would speak to me day after day, night after night… He told me that just because Shyam couldn’t see my beauty, it didn’t mean that it didn’t exist. It was hard but I began to open up to Arnav and I realized it had been a while since I last trusted someone so much.

Time passed and me and Arnav became closer and closer. High school ended and we had a long summer to look forward too. However, I had a falling out with one of my best female friends and things went horribly. I felt so alone, I felt like I had no one to speak to. Boy was I wrong. Arnav wouls stay up with me all night to talk to me, make me see the bright side of things. He told me I didn’t need people who treated me like dirt, he was my angel and I was beginning to fall for him. By this point of time he had gotten to know me so well, that no matter how much I tried to hide this from him, he knew, he knew I had feelings for him and he respected my feelings.

I told him how we could never be together though because if we did it was destroy destroy is friendship with Shyam and mine with Lavanya. So we decided that my feelings would a secret between only the two of us.

Then college began. It was a fresh start for both of us and we hoped that we could find the people who were then ones for us. Despite my feelings for Arnav, I knew it was pointless having my heart set on him and he told me to be free and get to know other guys and perhaps I would meet someone. And I did. I met Thanveer. But once again a worthless waste had captured my attention and so Arnav helped me get over that.

Arnav being Arnav captured the attention of many. I was happy for him, introduced him to people including my best friend who had gone to a different school. The three of us became out own little group with our own little world but of course things started changing. I felt she and Arnav became really close and it made me feel insecure because I was scared of losing him. It was pathetic, but that’s how I felt. I didn’t say anything to either of them as that would just be wrong, but me and Arnav began to drift. I hated it. So after a while I got back in there and a tried to get my Arnav back. I didn’t do this because in liked him as more than a friend this was all because he was my best friend and I needed him. He was what kept me together…

Some time passed and me and Arnav got our friendship back on track but alas someone had caught his attention. Sameera. He told me they were just friends, but I could tell, I knew him well enough to know he had fallen for her. I got to know her too and quickly learnt she was a nice person, just the kind of girl my Arnav would want. So I let him go. Told him I was no longer cared for him as more than a friend. He was my best friend and he always would be.

A year and a half later, me and Arnav are still friends, however our relationship has never been the same again. Its complicated. But all I know is that I fell in love with my best friend and I’m still in love with him…

Scars ~ Part 19

When Khushi got to AR, Raj was already there.

“Hi, morning, you okay?”

“I’m fine, you?”

“I’m really excited.”

“Well then why are we still out here.”

Khushi laughed and they both went into AR and met Aman who was waiting for them.

“Ah, you’ve arrived. Good morning. Now if you’ll please follow me. Again we have a small shoot, nothing major today. ASR has said that he wants you guys to be done in 2 and a half hours and when you’re done you’re to report to him to what he has to say. If he’s impressed, he’s willing to offer you both an internship and he’ll give you all the details. I’m a little busy today, so I wont be able to help you. But go straight through and we’re in the same studio as last time.

Any questions?”

Raj and Khushi looked at each other and then shook their heads.

“Excellent, so get going and good luck.”

Khushi and Raj made their way down to the studio and they began setting up. After 20 minutes of waiting to get started, people began to arrive and Raj instructed what he wanted everyone to wear and what he wanted them to do. Him and Khushi had a good system going and everything was working out perfectly.

The shoot happened and ended without any problems and they still had 15 minutes to spare before they had to report to ASR.

“Should we grab something to eat or?”

“We’ll eat after we’ve seen him.”

“Alright.”

When it was time, they made their way to Arnav’s office and knocked on the door.

“Come in.”

Raj pushed the door open and he let Khushi walk in before himself. Arnav looked up and there it was, The look of care and concern in Raj’s eyes for Khushi. He had seen it on the first day, at the party and he could see it again now. However there was something different this time. This time Raj looked… Well almost possessive. Something had changed there. Raj and Khushi sat down and Arnav noticed that Raj was watching Khushi closely.

“So can we see these pictures of yours now?”

Khushi nodded and hooked the camera onto the projector and they all looked through the pictures. Khushi and Raj looked through their pictures, however Arnav watched the pair of them. When they’d looked through all the pictures, Arnav clapped.

“Brilliant work! I loved all the pictures, you two really have done an amazing job.”

Arnav took papers out of his draw and passed them to Khushi and Raj.

“So as promised, as I’m impressed with your work, I am offering you both an internship here at AR for the rest of the academic year. After that, if one of you wishes  to leave you are free to do so and if I feel as though you truly would be an asset to our company, I will employ you to be a full time member of staff here.

I’ve already signed the papers because I knew you guys would do a great job, now you just have to sign them.”

“Sir this is an amazing offer, but we both are still at college, how can we accept an internship?”

“So what’s going to happen is that when you are scheduled for a photography lesson, you are going to come here instead and you will be working in my photography department. That was you get your assignments done and you get a great reference. And of course, I will be paying you.”

“Well, I guess that makes sense.”

Raj and Khushi looked at the contracts infront of them, pondering as to what they should do. Khushi read through the papers and signed, this is what Raj was working towards and he needed her to help him achieve what he wanted. Raj saw Khushi do this and he signed himself.

“Excellent. So I’ll have all the paperwork sent off to your college and I’m sure I’ll see you both more regularly, very, very soon.”

Khushi and Raj both stood up to leave.

“Raj, if you could wait a moment.”

Raj looked at Khushi who nodded and left the room and they watched as she made her way downstairs.

“I like to know what’s going on in the lives of my employers so that I can be as understanding as possible to whatever maybe going on. Is there anything I need to know about you and Khushi?”

“Pardon?”

“I mean, you and Khushi work so efficiently together. Is that just great teamwork or is there something more?”

“We’re friends sir, and that’s all.”

“Friends?”

“Yes, friends, I’m there for her when she needs me.”

“And does she need you a lot.”

“She has a lot going on in her life, I’m sure you’re aware of that.”

Arnav looked at Raj, a little confused.

“What do you mean?”

“I mean, I know.”

“You know what exactly?”

“I know the truth.”

“And what truth is that?”

“That… That… That you and Khushi are married.”

Arnav was taken aback. He didn’t expect to hear this.

“How do you know?”

“Khushi told me.”

“She did?”

“She was upset and I made her tell me. But don’t worry, I’m not about to go and tell anyone. She made me swear it was a secret and I’m the only one that she’s ever told, so I’m going to stick to my promise and I won’t say anything.”

“You really care about her.”

“She’s an angel, I know that, it’s just sad other people can’t see that.”

“Believe it or not, I do care about her too.”

“Mr Raizada, you are superior to me, however, I will say this. Khushi is a special, amazing person and she’s been hurt badly. I don’t know her past, but I know enough about her present to realise that she’s had it tough. She deserves someone who cares about her.”

“I agree, she does. Someone who can love her and care for her.”

Raj looked at Arnav, was he missing something here?

“I agree, she needs someone who cares about her, and I think I’ve found the perfect person for her. Raj, I know enough to know you care about Khushi…”

“Please stop. I know what you’re trying to get at but my answer is no. You can take my internship away from or do whatever you like, but my answer to what you’re thinking is no.”

“Why?”

“Because she loves YOU. Nothing either of us can do can change that. Khushi is in love with her HUSBAND.”

“Raj, we can make her happy.”

“No we can’t. I can be her friend, but I can’t give her the love she deserves.”

“But you do love her, don’t you?”

“Yes, I do… But she wants her husband, not me and I can’t make her fall in love with me. So please, please, let’s put and end to this conversation.”

Raj left and Arnav stood there. So there goes that plan. But Arnav knew he found find something else to do.

Raj went back to find Khushi who was waiting for him at the bottom of the stairs.

“what did he want?”

“Nothing, he just needed to talk to me about a plan.”

“Oh I see.”

“Should we go now?”

“I guess so.”

Raj and Khushi left and Arnav watched them, there had to be a way to get the right care for Khushi.

Unwanted ~ Part 2

Arnav

Finally, the god damn day had come to an end. Now I know why people only wish to get married once, weddings are such a pain in the ass. But regardless, the day was done, everyone was happy and here I am, being escorted to my own bedroom by my sister as though I’M the bride.

“Di, I really can go to my room myself.”

“Anxious are we? Come on Chote, this is how it’s meant to be done, I’ve taken your bride to your room and now I’m taking you to her.”

“Seriously Di, you don’t need to, you’re tired, go get some rest.”

“Chote. Look your room is just there, it’s not that much of an effort for me to take you to your room.”

“Fine Di. Whatever you say.”

I rolled my eyes and Di saw and she laughed at me and I laughed too. Good old Di. She was the best sister anyone could ask for and she’d always let me have my way. Finally my bedroom door came along and Di opened it.

WHAT THE HELL HAD THEY DONE TO MY ROOM!? It looked like a giant rose exploded. There were petals everywhere. Okay, so it was decorated for mine and Khushi’s wedding night, but this was a joke. Di ushered me into my room.

“Goodnight Chote, goodnight Khushi.”

Khushi looked up and I’m going to assume she smiled, but I couldn’t tell, her face was covered with that veil thing. Di looked at me again and whispered “Good luck Chote.” and she winked. SHE ACTUALLY WINKED. I know why she did that, but really Di?

Di left and shut the door and I locked it behind her. Khushi looked up when I did this and she pushed her veil away and got off the bed.

“So you were telling the truth, you did’t wear black.”

I laughed and looked down at my cream sherwani. When we went shopping they had black ones, but Di absolutely refused, she wouldn’t hear it.

“Like I said, Di made me.”

“Can I get changed now?”

“Sure, go for it.”

“Should I change in the bathroom?”

“Yeah.”

I watched as Khushi carefully made her way over to her bag and rummaged to find her PJs.

“Need a hand?”

“No, I’m okay.”

After a minute or two, she pulled out a short sleeved t-shirt and what looked like shorts. She went off into the bathroom.

I looked at the clock, it was almost 11. I should get changed too. I went over to my wardrobe and pulled out my track bottoms and a t-shirt and pulled off my sherwani. Ideally, I’d like to have got changed in the bathroom, just to make sure Khushi didn’t walk in on me when I was in just my boxers, but I thought it would take her a hell of a lot longer to get changed, what with all her jewelry and her long heavy lengha. And of course I was right. 2 minutes later, I was dressed again and ready for bed but she still made no sign of coming out of the bathroom.

“Arnav…”

“Yes?”

“Can you help me please?”

“What’s the matter?”

“The dori of my lengha top has got tangled with my necklace and I’m worried I’m going to rip something.”

“Do you want me to get Di?”

“NOOO, I’m the bride, I’m not supposed to get changed out of my wedding outfit. What will Di think if you suddenly call her to help me undress. No no, you’re going to have to come in and help me.”

“Me?”

“Yes you. You are technically my husband, so you can do this.”

“Alright fine.”

“The doors unlocked.”

I walked over to the bathroom and let myself in. There was Khushi, stood in the middle of the bathroom. She was still fully dressed but she’d put her dupatta aside and she’d managed to get all her jewelry off. I walked up behind her and found the source of the problem. I pushed Khushi’s hands away and took the dori of her top and the necklace apart. It wasn’t a hard job when you could see what you were doing. It was then I realised just how low the backline of her top was, it was almost non existent. My eyes, it was shameless of me, but I couldn’t help it, dropped to her back. Her skin looked so soft and it was so creamy and fair. Unintentionally, my fingers brushed over her back and she shivered. She jumped and turned around.

“Hey!”

“I’m sorry! I didn’t mean to touch you.”

“It’s fine, dont worry.”

I looked at her and damn. Without her dupatta covering here, I was seeing way more than I was supposed to. The neckline of her top too was low and I could see her cleavage. Good lord, she was a fine specimen of a woman. I turned myself. This was getting indecent.

“Do you need anything else?”

“No, I can manage now, thanks.”

I left the bathroom and went and sat back down on the bed. 15 minutes later, Khushi came out of the bathroom, with her wedding outfit draped over her arm, she put it down on the sofa. I looked at her, she was in a tight t-shirt and shorts. Her breasts looked so firm and her legs, DAMN they were toned and looked endless and ever so damn sexy. She saw me looking at her and blushed.

“I couldn’t find my nightdresses, so don’t get too used to this view.”

I laughed and she looked around the room.

“Where am I meant to sleep?”

“On the bed?”

“Where are you going to sleep?”

“In the bed of course, where else?”

“No, we can’t both sleep in the bed!”

“I understand what you’re saying, but at the end of the day we are married. Besides, we can control ourselves not to do anything stupid.”

“Okay fine, but I want a barrier.”

“Why?”

“So you stay on your side of the bed and me on mine.”

“Whatever you say Gupta.”

I got off the bed and went to find more pillows and it was then Khushi’s phone rang. She looked at me and then answered it.

*Heyy, how come your calling so late? … I’m fine, just getting ready for bed … No don’t worry, I’m sleeping on the sofa and Arnav’s sleeping on the bed so you don’t have to worry about anything like that … Ranveer, why are you being like this baby, you know I love you and only you. … I know how you’re feeling, but I’ve told you the plan, I can still see you whenever I want and we can always stay in touch, Arnav won’t mind. … Ranveer why must you be like this, you know why I had to marry him. … I’m not in the mood for this. I’m telling you now and I’ll say it again, this is a mutually unwanted relationship and me and Arnav plan to end it as soon as we can. …*

I got the pillows sorted and I sat down and picked up my own phone, Nimisha hadn’t texted or called me, but it was okay, I was due to see her again soon. Khushi had sat down on the side, her knees to her chest, talking to Ranveer. It didn’t sound like too much of a pleasant conversation, but that really wasn’t any of my business. I got into bed.

*Any way, I’ll talk to you again soon, I’m really tired. … Love you too, goodnight.*

Khushi disconnected the call and smiled to herself. She then made her way over to the bed and she got in.

“Goodnight.”

“Goodnight.”

“Remember, stay on your side of the bed Raizada.”

“And you stay on your Gupta.”

Khushi turned over and I did too. So here we are, in bed, bound to a relationship neither of us wants. The first night of an unwanted marriage, and there were still many more to come…

Scars ~ Part 18

“Arnavji… He’s… I… He’s my husband.”

Raj looked at Khushi.

“Wait, what. Say that again.”

“I’m married Raj. And I’m married to Arnav Singh Raizada.”

“You are joking right.”

Khushi pushed back her hair and there it was, light and hidden but he could clearly see it now, sindoor.

“Why… How? I don’t understand.”

Khushi explained how Arnav didn’t want to make their marriage known to the public, hence why she still hadn’t taken on his name, hence why no announcement had been made to notify the world that India’s most eligible bachelor was no longer a bachelor.

“But Khushi… The party, the other woman Arnav was with?”

“That’s his girlfriend, his true love.”

Khushi looked away and Raj saw the tears in her eyes. That’s when he fully understood, she wasn’t joking about this. Raj moved over to Khushi and tried to comfort her.

“Do La and the rest of the gang know?”

“No one knows, only our families and now you. Please don’t tell anyone.”

“But Khushi…”

“Swear to me that you won’t tell anyone.”

“I swear. But Khushi, this is wrong. He can’t be with someone and in love with someone when he’s married to you.”

“But he is… His only option was to marry me, his sister wanted him to marry me and he’d never go against her. He loves his family so much. He’s never do anything to hurt them.”

“But what about you? What about what you deserve?”

“The Raizada’s have been good to me. They don’t look down on me the way other people do, they care for me. They made an orphan their daughter in law and they have accepted me. They’ve given me the opportunity to be here, to do something for myself. They let me go out with my friends, what more can I ask from them.”

“But you deserve to be loved and accepted by your husband.”

“You can’t force someone to love you.”

“But…”

“Raj, I know you mean well. But this is my life. This is me. We can’t change what was meant to happen and to be honest this marriage has been one of the best things that’s happened to me in a very long time. I’m not happy, but I’m not unhappy. I’ve been in worse situations.”

“I don’t even know what to say.”

“Please, don’t say anything. Forget all of this and let us finish our drinks and go back to worrying about work.”

“Khushi, you can’t expect me to forget all this.”

“But you have to, for my sake.”

“Is that why you never want me to drop you off or pick you up, because you didn’t want me to find out.”

Khushi nodded and Raj smiled sadly. They finished their hot chocolates and they paid and left.

“Let me drop you off home today.”

Khushi thought for a moment and then nodded. They got a taxi and they began making their way to Raizada house. They didn’t speak much and Raj tried to digest everything that Khushi had told him. When they got to the gates of Shantivan, Khushi got out.

“Thank you. For everything Raj.”

“Khushi there’s one thing I want to say to you and that’s this, angel, you don’t need someone who treats you like anything less than what you actually are.”

Khushi looked at Raj, his words circling her mind over and over again. She smiled and then turned to leave. When she reached the door, Raj left and that’s when Khushi bumped into Arnav.

“Who was that?”

“Arnav, I’m not in the mood to…”

“I asked who that guy was.”

“I don’t need to tell you who I go out with.”

“I’m your husband. I have a right to know.”

“My husband. MY HUSBAND. Please, don’t annoy me, again I’m not in the mood.”

Arnav took hold of Khushi’s hand and took her away from the door and opened the door of his car and got her to get in. He then got in himself.

“Khushi, listen, I just want to look out for you.”

“I don’t need you to look out for me. I’ve always managed on my own and I can still manage on my own.”

“Yeah, I’ve seen how well you can cope on your own.”

“What the hell is that meant to mean?”

“Nothing, I just…”

Arnav took Khushi’s hands in his own, but Khushi pulled her hands away from him.

“Please, don’t touch me.”

“Okay, fine, I won’t. But Khushi, let me take care of you.”

“Again, I don’t need you to take care of me.”

“I know you’ve always managed on your own, but you don’t need to any more. You have Payal and Di and Nani and your friends… You have me.”

“But that’s the point, I don’t have you Arnavji. Don’t you see, you can never be mine.”

“Khushi this isn’t about me. I understand what you’re saying but that doesn’t change anything, I can still look out for you, care about you…”

Khushi turned away from him and began getting out of the car. Arnav banged the steering wheel and that’s when Khushi turned to him once more.

“It was Raj. He was the one that dropped me off.”

And with that she left. Arnav thought to himself.

“Raj…”

*****

“Hi, is that Raj? I’m Aman from AR Designs, Mr Raizada has asked me to let you know that he would like you and Miss Gupta to come in and take some more photographs for us. He was really impressed with your work and your teamwork and so we’d like you to come in again. We’ve already contacted your college and they’ve said it’s okay for the pair of you to be out of lessons tomorrow.”

“I’m flattered that Mr Raizada was so impressed with our work, however before I make any commitments, I will have to speak to Khushi. I mean if she doesn’t agree then I can’t do this without her.”

“I can understand, but please be sure to tell Miss Gupta that if you both are successful tomorrow, Mr Raizada is willing to offer you both internships here at AR.”

“Wow that really is amazing! Thank you so much, can you tell Mr Raizada I said thanks. Okay I’ll contact Khushi and then I’ll call you back.”

“Please let us know as soon as possible.”

“I will do.”

Raj disconnected the call and looked at his phone in disbelief. An internship at AR! That’s all he ever wanted! And to think his dream was coming true. But Khushi… And why was ASR doing this? He didn’t need them, he had teams and teams of professional photographers, why did he need them? Something wasn’t adding up, but the only way to find out would be by talking to the great ASR himself.

Raj called Khushi and explained what had just happened.

“That’s great Raj, you should go for it.”

“But the thing is, this isn’t an offer just for me, it’s for both of us, and I can’t do this without you. But I understand if you don’t want to.”

“No I’ll do it.”

“You will?”

“Of course, I know how much these means to you. What kind of a friend would I be if I put myself before your dreams.”

“Khushi, really you don’t have to.”

“Raj, it’ll be fine, trust me.”

*****

“So you’re coming to AR today?”

“Yes I am, would you rather I didn’t?”

“No of course not. I want you to come hence why I requested for you and Raj specially.”

“But why?”

“Because I like the work the pair of you produce.”

“But you have many, many people. Why do you want to have us, a pair of kids working for you?”

“Fresh talent, a new perspective.”

“I see.”

“Well hurry and get ready and I’ll take you with me.”

“There’s no need, I can get there myself.”

“I know you can, but I want to take you there.”

“Fine, just give me 10 minutes.”

Khushi went to the bathroom to get ready and Arnav smiled.

“If I can’t be the one to make you happy and give you what you deserve, than I will find someone who I think can make you happy.”

Unwanted ~ Part 1

Khushi

So here is where our story begins.

I, Khushi Kumari Gupta am soon to be Khushi Kumari Gupta Singh Raizada. I’m going to be marrying great Arnav Singh Raizada in less than 24 hours. Surely you’ve heard of him. He’s the owner of AR Designs, the biggest and most successful fashion house in India.

Any way, there’s less than 24 hours until we get married and here I am, in one of the biggest hotels in India waiting to meet him. Now anyone would think we were just eager, needing to be together before our wedding day, perhaps getting a good feel of what it would be like spending the rest of our lives toogether, but that really isn’t the case. We are meeting here, to set some ground rules.

So here I am, in a large hotel room waiting for my fiance. After what feels like forever, there’s a knock at the door.

“Come in.”

The door opens and he walks in. Just like every other time I’d seen him, he was in a black suit. Typical Raizada. Every time I’d seen him so far, he’s always been in a suit and it had always been black.

“Have you been waiting long?”

“Only half an hour.”

“Damn I’m so sorry.”

“It’s fine, don’t worry about it. But please tell me what the matter is now. I have to get home quickly otherwise everyone will start looking for me and my friend won’t be able to cover for me for too long.”

“Okay, so Khushi, I know I should have spoken to you earlier but we’ve both been so busy I haven’t had the chance. Khushi… I don’t know how to tell you this.”

“Just tell me straight up.”

“Okay, the thing is, I’m in love with someone else.”

I looked at him, what do I say now? So I decided the best thing to do was to tell him how I felt.

“Well then I guess this is a good time to tell you that I too am in love with someone else.”

“You are?”

“Yup, his name’s Ranveer and me and him have been together since we were 17. My family know this, but they say that he isn’t the one for me and so they won’t allow us to get married.”

“Oh, well in that case, I’m in love with someone named Nimisha and we’ve been together for just over a year and I really love her. But Di doesn’t think she’s the kind of girl that would be suitable for our family and so she wants me to marry you.”

“I see. So we both love separate people, but here we are, less than 24 hours away from our marriage.”

“It’s weird isn’t it?”

“Indeed. Fate is playing a weird game with us.”

“So I came here to tell you my true feelings about this marriage and I have also come to put forward a proposal.”

“What kind of a proposal?”

“Well I guess after talking to you now, the circumstance has changed. When I came here I was thinking in a certain way because, of course I thought you accepted this marriage but now… My proposal is that we get married…”

“Arnav…”

“Sh let me finish. So we get married and make our families happy, but after a while we start pretending that it isn’t working out for us and so when we come to the decision to get a divorce, no one can say no to us because they would have realised that it just wasn’t working out for us. And while we are married, I’ll cover for you whenever you want to go and see Ranveer and I’d hope you do the same for me.”

“I like the way you think Mr Raizada and accept your proposal. But Arnav, how long are we going to have to do this for.”

“I was thinking maybe 6 months. That way it makes everyone think we did give our marriage a go but it just didn’t work out.”

“That’s still a long time.”

“I know, but it’s the only option we have.”

I smiled and nodded at him, I could do this. 6 months of this and then my family would have to let me marry Ranveer. I’m shocked they still haven’t realised Ranveer is perfect for me.

“It’s getting late, and it’s out wedding day tomorrow, you should get home before anyone notices you’ve gone.”

“So I guess I’ll see you tomorrow Mr Raizada.”

“You sure will.”

“Goodnight.”

“Sleep tight.”

“Don’t let the bed bugs bite.”

He laughed and I couldn’t help but notice he looked damn good when he laughed. But hey if Arnav was cute, Ranveer was way cute. I saw him pull his phone out and he smiled as he replied to a text. I took my own phone out to find I had messages from Jiji and from Lavanya AND from Ranveer. I needed to get back.

“Well I’ve got to go, you’ll be okay to see yourself out won’t you Khushi?”

“Of course I will, but one thing…”

“What is it?”

“Do you always wear black?”

“What?”

“I’ve always seen you in black suits.”

“Oh, yeah I wear a lot of black.”

“Are you going to wear black tomorrow as well?”

“Sadly no, Di wouldn’t let me.”

“What colour are you going to wear?”

“It’s a surprise!”

I looked at him and he looked at me. We both left the room and he helped me into my car.

“So I guess it’s bye for now.”

“Until tomorrow Miss Gupta.”

“Until tomorrow Mr Raizada.”
