Scars ~ Part 17

Arnav’s first stop was the orphanage. He knocked on the door and one of the kids opened the door and called for someone to come see. An elderly woman came to the door.

“Arnav saab, please, come in.”

Arnav entered and all the children watched him. He woman ushered him into the office and gestured for him to take a seat.

“To what do I owe this pleasure? Is Anjali ma’am okay?”

“She’s fine, but I haven’t come due to that. I’ve come here to let you know that I am going to press charges against yourself for I do not feel that you have been giving all the children the correct amount of care and attention.”

“Excuse me. With all due respect Mr Raizada, I do not feel you can do something like that.”

“I haven’t done anything yet, however this is the plan once I get enough evidence against you. So I suggest you start packing your things away and walk away, otherwise you’ll spend the rest of your life behind bars.”

“Mr Raizada…”

Arnav stood up.

“I haven’t got anything else to say right now. Thank you for your time. Think about what I just said.”

With that Arnav left, leaving the woman behind him highly confused as to what was going on. Arnav left the building and then made his way to Khushi’s social workers office. Once he got there he realised he’s arrived at an agency. The receptionist said that he couldn’t meet anyone without an appointment.

“I’m Arnav Singh Raizada. You cannot tell me that I can’t meet someone when I know I need to see them.”

“Mr Raizada, I really can’t…”

“What’s going on out here. Tina, who does this man wish to see?”

“He wishes to see you ma’am.”

“I have a free slot, I can see Mr Raizada.”

The social worker let Arnav into her office.

“Mr Raizada, how may I help you?”

“It’s been brought to my attention that you were the social worker of Khushi Kumari Gupta.”

“Ah Khushi, yes, I was her social worker, but of course she hasn’t been my responsibility for a long time.”

“But when she was your responsibility?”

“I feel like I did whatever was necessary for her and I did everything I could. But why are you asking me all this?”

“Yet you never looked further into the topic of whether she really was harming herself or not.”

“I wasn’t able to. I brought it to the attention of those who were in charge of her, however it wasn’t my place to look further when they didn’t. I wanted them to look further into the matter but no one ever did.”

“As her social worker you had a right to ask her, you had a duty to make sure she felt safe and secure.”

“She never said anything more and it didn’t feel right to pry.”

“If you found no one looked into the matter why didn’t you take it up with those in charge again, make them …”

“Mr Raizada, Khushi was almost 16 at the time. She was soon to leave our care. Because of the fact that she was almost 16 there was a lot of things we couldn’t pry because she required her privacy.”

“But it was a highly serious matter.”

“I understand your concern, and I really am sorry and if I was able to get in touch with Khushi now I would tell her I’m sorry I couldn’t do more to help her. But it’s too late and she’s probably happy and living her life now. We all move on and that’s what we need to do here too.”

Arnav looked at the woman and shook his head.

“I understand. But I know for a fact you’re still working as a social worker. All I want to say is that the mistakes you made with Khushi, please don’t make them with other children.”

“I promise you Mr Raizada, I aim to do a better job now.”

Arnav felt like there was nothing more he could do. But it was true, Khushi was suffering and due to that she was harming herself. Now all he needed to do was make sure it was something that she wasn’t doing it any more and if she was, he needed to get her the help she needed to help her deal with her problems.

*****

It was a few days later and Khushi had her photography lesson. She had been dreading seeing Raj because she didn’t want things to be awkward between them. When she walked into the class, Raj smiled to her and she took her seat next to him.

“You okay?”

“I’m fine, you?”

“I’m good. Did you get home okay after the party?”

This caused Khushi to remember what happened once she left. The random man that had grabbed her and then what happened between her and Arnan… It all came back to her. How he’d touched her, how he’d got even closer to her, how his lips felt on hers, on her skin… How his hands had left when they brushed over her body…

“Khushi…?”

“Can we just start working.”

Khushi and Raj took their work out and they began putting their final piece together. It was then Raj realised that they were short of pictures.

“Khushi we need more pictures. If we don’t have exactly 75 pictures, we can’t submit our work and we only have 55 pictures here.”

“How are we meant to get the rest?”

“I guess we’ll have to put in a request to go to AR again.”

“No we can’t go there. ”

“Khushi, I don’t understand what your problem is. You’re such a positive person but when it comes to Mr Raizada, it’s like you become a different person. You speak to him in a funny way and then when we see him at a party you refuse to go and speak to him. What is up with you?”

“Raj can we just get something sorted please.”

“No I refuse to work until you tell me what the issue is.”

“I can’t.”

“What do you mean you can’t?”

“I just can’t Raj, please try to understand.”

“Khushi, if you’ve ever considered me as your friend, then you’ll tell me.”

“Okay fine. I’ll tell you, but after lesson and over a hot chocolate. My treat.”

Raj nodded and they began to get on with their work. It was once the lesson ended, Raj made sure that Khushi couldn’t leave him. They made their way to a little tea shop and Khushi ordered for 2 hot chocolates. Khushi tried to make conversation but Raj made her cut the chase.

“Khushi, please, just tell me.”

“Raj… I…”

“Go on.”

“Arnavji… He’s… I… He’s my husband.”

Scars ~ Part 16

Khushi waited up that night, but Arnav didn’t come home. By 2 am Khushi couldn’t keep herself awake any longer and so she went to sleep. Arnav got home just past half 2 and saw Khushi asleep. Thank god she’d fallen asleep. It would have been highly awkward if she was still awake.

He moved over to her sleeping form, he was deadly attracted to her. She was nothing like what he had thought of her when they first got married. To begin with, he’d just thought of her to be a middle class, damp, uneducated girl. But now… She was a smart, talented, feisty, sexy woman who had truly captivated his attention. But he didn’t love her…

Arnav tucked Khushi in and that’s when he saw her arm. All the way up her left arm were scars. He moved to turn the lights on and that’s when he fully saw them. Lots and lots of scars. They were more up at the top of her arm as opposed to being towards her hands, but sure enough they were there. They varied in lengths and some looked lighter than others, suggesting that they were all from different times. Arnav switched the light back off and went over to his recliner. How? Where did all these scars come from and how come he’d never noticed them before. He thought about it, she always wore long sleeves and her arms were always covered. None of the scars looked too recent but they were still recent enough for the scars to be more than visible. Arnav looked over at Khushi, something here wasn’t quite adding up and he needed to get to the bottom of the matter…

*****

The next morning, Arnav woke up before Khushi and quickly got ready. He then went to Anjali’s room and knocked on the door. Anjali opened up and looked at Arnav confused.

“Chote, what are you doing here to early?”

“I just needed to check your accounts Di, because something doesn’t quite add up in one of mine and I want to check if they’ve made any mistakes in your too.”

“Oh, I have looked through mine and they all look fine, but sure.”

Anjali let Arnav into her room and opened up her draw where she kept all her paperwork.

“Has jiiu already left?”

“No he’s just gone down for breakfast. Is Khushi up yet?”

“No, she’s still asleep.”

Anjali nodded and left the room. Arnav took out Anjali’s papers and took out her large folder where all the paperwork regarding the orphanage was. Khushi’s file had to be here. And then her found it. A little blue folder, separate from the bigger folder labelled Khushi, Arnav took the papers out and started looking through them. Pages and pages and pages on Khushi’s past. The things she did, how she performed in school, what she was allergic too, medical records and then personal notes made by her social workers. After flicking through sheets and sheets, he finally found what he was looking for.

“16th Feb, 2010. Khushi is 15 years and 10 months. I have met with Khushi and sat down to talk to her after a good 3 months. A lot seems to have changed in this time. Although Khushi didn’t tell me much, it is evident she isn’t enjoying school and due to this her grades have dropped a significant amount. I will request a full report from her school to evaluate further. Khushi is telling me she’s happy, however, she seems to have lost her general buzz. After speaking to her for a little while, she has let slip that the bullying has started up again and she feels like it’s all getting to much for her. I ask her how she is coping and she smiles at me sadly and says she’s coping in a new way which is only for her to know. From this I fear Khushi may have taken to self harm, however I cannot be sure. Hence why I am asking for the matrons here to keep a specially close eye on Khushi until my next meeting with her. Please keep a note on anything she says or anything she does and let me know and keep it in her file.”

Arnav slumped back in his chair. Self harm…? He looked through more sheets and finds another one which was written up 2 weeks after the one he’s just read. He notices it’s by someone else.

“We have kept an eye on Khushi for the past 2 weeks. She seems to be fine. Nothing out of the ordinary, nothing to worry about, we have said she doesn’t require any special attention and that an emergency meeting with her social worker isn’t requires.”

Arnav continued to look through the papers however there was nothing more on the topic of her self harm. Arnav put all the papers back in order and put everything back for Anjali but took down the name and address of Khushi’s social worker and of the matrons who helped at the orphanage when Khushi was staying there. Her social worker had been right, Khushi had taken up self harm to deal with her problems yet no one looked into the matter, no one cared. No one gave her the help or care she needed to help her recover from what she was going through. Khushi was 15, almost 16 when she began to self harm, and she was now almost 20… 4 years had passed. How had no one noticed, how had no one taken time out to try and help her?

Arnav tidied up and left Anjali’s room and went back to his own where Khushi was now awake and getting ready for the day ahead of her. She looked at Arnav and tried to smile but failed. Memories of last night still there in both their minds. Arnav realised something needed to be said, but he didn’t want to hurt her feelings, know her condition.

“Khushi I…”

“It’s alright, I understand. It was a spur of the moment kind of thing, didn’t have any meaning. It just happened and so we should forget about it and carry on as though it never happened.”

“Khushi…”

“Please. I don’t want to think about it any more.”

Arnav nodded and left the room. He looked at the short list of names and addresses that he had and it was clear what needed to be done. He grabbed and apple and then left the house in a hurry.

“Khushi, where’s Chote going?”

“I’m not sure. He doesn’t tell me these things.”

Khushi went into the kitchen and Payal followed her.

“Khushi, is everything okay?”

“Everything’s fine jiji.”

“Are you sure?”

“Nothing I can’t handle.”

“Khushi, I’m still your sister, if you need me, I’ll always be here for you.”

“I’ve always managed on my own and I can still manage on my own.”

And with that Khushi left the kitchen and Payal watched her go. She could remember the days when Khushi would tell her every little thing, but those days were gone and it was all her mothers fault. If her mother hadn’t done what she had, Khushi would still be her baby sister.

*****

Arnav got in his car. He didn’t know why he was doing this, but it felt like the right thing to do. He needed to understand Khushi, needed to know more about her and if this was the only way, then he needed to do something.

Scars ~ Part 15

Khushi made her way out to the car park to find her car. But she couldn’t see it. She walked further into the dark and that’s when a pair of strong arms grabbed her from behind.

Khushi gasped and tried to call out for help but the person holding her covered her mouth. Khushi tried to kick but was unable to. The person carried her over and took her round the back and pushed her up against a wall.

“I’ve had my eye on you the whole evening. I’ve been waiting for you to leave. And just to my luck, you left alone.”

“Who are you? What do you want from me?”

“Oh come on now. What do you think a man would want from such a beautiful woman?”

“I can’t give you anything, please let me go!”

“Why on earth would I do that?”

Khushi looked up at the person who was holding her, but failed to recognise him.

“Please, I don’t know who you are, please let me go.”

Khushi tried to dodge past the man and get away but he caught hold of her dress and ripped it.

“Please stop, please let me go.”

“Not until you give me what you want.”

Khushi caught a whiff of the mans breath and sure enough he had been drinking. What could she do? Everyone else was inside, by the time anyone came out the man could have done what he wanted and left her. Khushi prayed, hoping for someone to come along and save her. The man ran his hand down her cheek.

“You really are a beautiful find.”

It was exactly then the man was wrenched off her. It was so dark, Khushi couldn’t register what was happening, but then next thing she knew the guy was being beaten up.

“How dare you touch her? Who the hell do you think you are?”

Arnav… It was Arnav who had come to rescue her. Khushi watched as Arnav beat the guy up and pushed him to the floor, leaving him bleeding. He then walked over to Khushi who threw herself into Arnav’s arms.

“Thank you. God knows what would have happened to me if you hadn’t come.”

Arnav held Khushi and let her hug him. This all felt so strange, having Khushi in his arms. Khushi held onto Arnav, trying to get as close to him as she could. She inhaled Arnav’s scent, his strong masculine perfume intoxicating her. Arnav broke the hug and looked at Khushi.

“Lets go home.”

“But you’re still meant to be here.”

“But I can’t let you go off on your own, not right after being attacked.”

“I’m so sorry about the dress, it’s ruined.”

“Don’t worry about it, I’ll get you a new one.”

They made their way to Arnav’s car and they both sat down. Arnav looked over to Khushi who was now fully aware that her dress was pretty much falling off her because the other man had ripped it. Arnav took his jacket off and handed it over to her. Khushi put it on and she could smell him. God, he smelt so good. On the way back, both were thinking about the hug they shared and this caused the tension in the car to heighten.

Once they got home both Arnav and Khushi went to their room, no one else seemed to be around.

“So the time you were there, did you enjoy yourself?”

This was the first time Khushi fully looked at Arnav and everything she’d seen came crashing back to her.

“So is that why you wanted me to go to the party, so that I could see you with Maya?”

“No Khushi…”

“I got the message Arnav.”

“I swear, it wasn’t because of Maya.”

“Why would you want me there, just to see you with your lover.”

“Khushi I didn’t know.”

“Didn’t know what?”

“I didn’t know Maya was going to come. She told me she wasn’t going to be able to make it, but then last minute she turned up.”

“If you think I’m going to believe you.”

“I swear to you Khushi, I didn’t do it for that reason.”

“Stop lying Arnavji.”

“For gods sake Khushi!”

And with that Arnav grabbed Khushi’s arms and pushed her into the wall, his body covering hers.

“I’m Arnav Singh Raizada. I don’d need to pull such a low stunt. If I wanted to show you that I was with Maya I could easily call her over to my house. So don’t you dare call me a liar.”

Khushi looked up and Arnav and she stopped struggling against him. She looked at him, aware of how close they were. It should feel awkward, indecent even, but it didn’t. Arnav looked down at Khushi and couldn’t help but notice her eyes. Those bright hazel eyes, and her long lashes. His eyes dropped to her lips, her ever so slightly pink, plump lips. Untouched lips…

Arnav lowered his head, his eyes fluttering closed and he closed the distance between their lips. Khushi too closed her eyes, anticipating what was to come. And then their lips touched. The kiss was slow and sweet, Arnav led but Khushi too followed. His hands moved from her arms up to her shoulders and then to the back of her neck. He pulled her into himself. Khushi raised her own hands and held onto Arnav’s arms, begging for her body not to give way, for she felt as though she could melt any second. When they got into the kiss, Arnav’s hands began exploring, he found where her dress was torn and began pushing away at the dress, leaving her upper body exposed to himself. Khushi shivered, realising what was happening and moved further into Arnav. She could feel his manliness now, poking her stomach ever so slightly. Arnav lifted Khushi off the floor, never breaking their kiss and took her over to the bed where he pushed her dress down her body completely, leaving her in nothing but her panties and her bra. Khushi pulled Arnav onto herself and he kissed her neck.

“Arnavjii…”

This caused Arnav’s eyes to snap open. He looked at Khushi beneath him and he jumped away from her.

“F**k!”

Khushi looked at him, confused and he ran his hand through his hair violently.

“S**t. What the hell.”

Arnav got off the bed and threw a blanket over Khushi and began walking away. Khushi watched him, not really understanding what was going on.

“Arnavji…”

He didn’t turn around.

“Forget what happened. It was a mistake. I’m sorry I got your hopes up.”

And with that he left the room. Khushi looked at the door, hoping he’d come back in again, but he didn’t. She moved the blanket and looked at herself. Did he not like what he saw? Was there something wrong with her that made him stop? Did she do something wrong? Khushi wanted to kick herself.

*****

Arnav sat in his car and banged his steering wheel. What the hell was wrong with him? He closed his eyes, trying to block out all thoughts but there it was. The kiss he and Khushi shared playing in his mind over and over and over again. He opened his eyes and there he could see her, standing there in her black lacy lingerie. She looked so hot, her curves teasing him. Her perfectly round globes calling out to him to be set free, to be touched, to be kissed…

But he couldn’t. They couldn’t. Yes Khushi was attractive, yes she was damn sexy, but he couldn’t… They couldn’t. And then Maya came to mind. Maya… Lovely Maya. The only person who understood him, the only one that stood by him when no one else was. Maya, his love… Yet, what had just happened with Khushi had never happened with Maya. Him and Maya had been together for almost 4 years now and obviously they shared kisses here and there, yet he’d never gotten so into the kiss that he’d managed to take her clothes off and get her into bed!

What the hell was going on?

Scars ~ Part 14

Khushi was dressed in the dress Arnav brought for her. It was a western style dress but it was a long flowing one. It was black and quite fitted, but regardless, Khushi loved it. She wore her dress with a pair of high heeled black shoes and damn she looked good. She looked at the dress again and smiled. It was the first thing Arnav had brought for her, the first sign of him accepting her. Maybe they could make their relationship work.

When it was time, and Khushi was all ready, she got on of the drivers to drop her off at the hotel. All her friends were already there waiting for her. Lavanya was the first to see her.

“I’m actually so glad you came! Thanks Khushi.”

“It’s my pleasure.”

They entered the hotel and their other friends went their own ways. Lavanya, Raj and Khushi remained together. And that’s when Khushi saw him.

Saw Arnav…

“Khushi look, its ASR. We should go say hi to him.”

“No.”

Khushi’s heart hurt. So this is why he took over the sponsorship for this. So this was why he was so desperate for her to be here. Khushi looked away and then looked up again and sure enough what she saw didn’t change. There with Arnav, was a beautiful woman in a sari. She was holding onto Arnav and gazing up at him, with total admiration. So this must have been his love.

“Damn who’s she? She’s beautiful.”

Khushi turned to Lavanya who was looking at the woman with Arnav.

“Do you think that’s his wife or something, although I’ve never heard of the great ASR having a wife, have you?”

Khushi shook her head but she could feel a lump in her throat. Lavanya was right. The woman with Arnav did look like she could be his wife. She was tall and had stunning curves, not like Khushi. Khushi felt like a little kid compared to her. No wonder Arnav preferred her.

“La, I’m just going to the bathroom.”

“But we just got here.”

“I’ll be back in a minute.”

Khushi rushed off to the bathroom and looked at herself in the mirror. God why must she look so much like a kid? Who was she kidding? When she’d left the house, she felt so mature and she thought she looked sexy, but now, looking at herself she felt more like a kid than ever. Khushi tried to hold back the tears, the last thing she needed was to start crying and make a mess of her face.

Just then the bathroom door opened and the woman who was with Arnav walked in. Khushi looked at her. The woman walked gracefully over to where Khushi was standing and she fixed her hair. Khushi gripped the side of the sink and the woman looked at Khushi.

“Are you okay there? You look a bit pale?”

“I’m fine.”

“Are you one of the college students.”

Khushi nodded slowly.

“Are you enjoying the party so far.”

Khushi didn’t say anything.

“I love your dress. Is that one of AR Design’s latest pieces?”

“Yes it is.”

“It looks really good on.”

“Thank you. I like your sari too.”

“Thanks. I’m Maya by the way.”

“Khushi.”

“That’s a lovely name. Any way, are you sure you’re okay Khushi? You really do look a bit pale. Would you like me to tell someone that you’re not feeling well.”

“No it’s fine, don’t worry. Was nice meeting you, I have to go now.”

And with that Khushi rushed out of the bathroom. Why must this be happening. She thought about her encounter with Maya, oh how she wished she could hate her, but she really couldn’t. Maya seemed like a genuinely caring person.

Khushi went back to La, who was talking to people from college. She stood there and saw when Maya came back to Arnav. He looked so glad to have Maya back by his side. It was then that they made eye contact. Arnav looked over to Khushi and saw her and his expression fell a little. He looked at Maya and then back at Khushi. Khushi looked away, trying to stop the tears. She turned so her back was now to Arnav and took a little kebab from the table and picked up a glass of juice. She tried to engage in conversation with other people around her but she kept finding herself looking over to where Arnav and Maya were now slow dancing. They looked so cosy and happy together. They didn’t have a care in the world. They were such a happy couple and this made Khushi feel so mad. It was then that Raj approached her.

“Would you like to dance?”

“Not really Raj.”

“Come on, please, just one dance.”

Khushi thought for a while and then nodded. Raj took Khushi’s hand and led her onto the dance floor.

“You look really beautiful today.”

“Thank you.”

Raj took hold of Khushi properly and they began to sway to the music.

“Khushi, there’s something I wanted to tell you but I really didn’t know how to.”

“What is it?”

“Khushi… I… Khushi, I really like you. And I was thinking, maybe we could…”

Khushi pulled away and looked at Raj with big eyes.

“What are you saying? I don’t understand.”

“I really like you Khushi and I was wondering… Maybe you’d like to go out with me sometime.”

Khushi’s mind went into overdrive. She recalled all the things her friends had told her about Raj. Like how he’d never really been with anyone because he was waiting for the right girl to come along. Khushi looked at Raj… She was the one he was waiting for?

“Khushi, I know this maybe a little bit too much for you, but I swear I really like you and I’d love to get to know you better.”

“Raj… I can’t.”

“I get it, you need time to think.”

“No I really don’t. Please Raj, you’re my friend but don’t complicate things.”

“But…”

“My answer is a no and it will always remain a no. I’m sorry.”

“It’s okay… I… I understand.”

“I think I’m going to go home now.”

“Let me drop you off.”

“No I’ll be fine.”

With that, Khushi went to find her other friends, told them she was going and she began to leave. She turned to see where Arnav was, but he was no longer around but she could still see Maya talking to other people. Life had a way of playing unfair games. Here she had Raj who cared about her, who wanted to be with her. And then there was Arnav. Her husband. The man she wanted to be with but who didn’t want her. Why was life so unfair? Why must something like this happen? Why couldn’t she have just gotten married to someone like Raj who would have accepted her and loved her.

Khushi made her way out to the car park to find her car. But she couldn’t see it. She walked further into the dark and that’s when a pair of strong arms grabbed her from behind…

Scars ~ Part 13

Raj took Khushi out for coffee and they discussed there day.

“Such a great day Khushi and to think, we’re getting references from Arnav Singh Raizada.”

“Hmm.”

“What’s the matter Khushi, I don’t get you.”

“You don’t need to.”

Khushi looked at her watched and realised it was time to go.

“I have to go now.”

“I’ll drop you off.”

“Don’t worry, I’ll go myself.”

Khushi got up and left and Raj watched her go. What was up with Khushi. She was such a closed character, yet she was never unfriendly. But something about how she was today with ASR got him thinking. Why would she act like that?

*****

When Khushi got home, she bumped into Anjali.

“So tell me how your day was! You saw my Chote in action.”

“I guess so. Di I hope you don’t mind but I’m really tired so…”

“Of course, of course. Off you go.”

Khushi smiled and left. Once she was alone in her room she reflected on the day. On what Arnav had said before they’d left. He was in love with someone else…

Why didn’t she see it before? It was obvious that he would have someone in his life. Khushi sat down. What was she to do now? Just sit around and waste her life with a man that would never want her. Khushi toughened herself up and decided that she’d sort this with Arnav once and for all.

*****

Arnav got home a little later. Today was a good day. His major shoot for AR was now done and dusted. He’d be able to relax for a couple of days now. Arnav took a seat in his recliner and pushed his head back into the recliner. He heard the door open and saw Khushi walk in.

“Arnavji we need to talk.”

“We really don’t. We did all our talking this morning.”

“I’m not done.”

“Well I am.”

“I want a divorce.”

Arnav’s head snapped up.

“I explained this before.”

“And I’ve been thinking. We’ll explain to everyone that you love someone else and then you can get together, I’m sure they’ll understand.”

“They won’t! That’s why I’m married to you.”

“But what kind of a life is this for us. You’re stuck with me and I’m stuck with someone who doesn’t want me.”

“Are you saying you want me.”

Khushi looked away.

“Answer me damn it.”

“Yes.”

“Yes what.”

“I want you.”

“Why?”

“Because you’re my husband.”

“That’s not a reason. There are plenty of women who don’t want their husbands.”

“Okay fine, because I’ve fallen in love with you.”

“But why?”

“Because I have!”

Khushi looked away.

“It just happened okay. I don’t know when or how. But it did.”

Arnav looked at Khushi. How could she have fallen in love with him. He’d tried to make sure that she didn’t. He wanted to say something but Khushi’s phone rang. She moved to answer it.

“Hello?”

“Khushi, it’s Lavanya. I forgot to tell you. It’s Valentines day tomorrow and we have a small dance at college. You must come.”

“I can’t.”

“Why not?”

“I just can’t. Besides, I don’t even have a Valentine.”

“Khushi, please, it’s only a bit of fun.”

“I’ll think about it.”

“Make sure you hurry and think and let me know.”

Khushi disconnected the call and shook her head. Arnav looked at her.

“You should go.”

“Excuse me.”

“You should go to the party.”

“How do you know?”

“That’s the biggest event happening tomorrow so.”

“Well I’m not going.”

“Why not?”

“Because I don’t do those kinds of things.”

“Khushi, go out with your friends and enjoy yourself.”

Khushi shot a look at Arnav.

“Oh so you suddenly care do you?”

“Khushi don’t be like this.”

“Why shouldn’t I?”

“Because you deserve to enjoy life.”

“I also deserve to be treated like a wife.”

This shut Arnav up.

“All I’m saying is that I saw how your friend Raj was with you today and I think you have good friends and you should spend time with them.”

Khushi shook her head and walked off. That’s when Arnav had an idea and began making some calls.

*****

It was much later that evening when Khushi and all the other college students began to receive texts and emails from their college. The message read the same thing; *The annual Valentines Day dance has been sponsored by AR Designs and in account of that the party will take place at the Royal Mill Hotel tomorrow evening. Tickets have been paid for and everyone is welcome. We look forward to seeing you all there.*

This angered Khushi. What the hell was Arnav playing at. But still. She refused to go and that was that. Khushi got ready for bed and went to sleep…

*****

The next morning, Khushi woke up and found that it was just past half 8. There was no college as it was a Saturday, But Arnav had already left for the day. Khushi got up and got ready and began doing what she usually does on a Saturday. It was just then that Lavanya called.

“Did you get the message about the changes?”

“Yes I did.”

“So, I’m still not going.”

“Khushi please, it’ll be fun.”

“Lavanya, that’s really not my kind of scene.”

“I get that, I swear I do, but I really want you to come too.”

“Lavanya…”

“Please Khushi, please, I’ll never ask anything of you again.”

“Okay fine. I’ll come with you guys.”

Khushi disconnected the call and then realised she couldn’t just go off like that. She needed to get permission first. So she went down to ask Nani. Nani was sitting in the living room, speaking with Manorama.

“Naniji, I was just wondering if I could ask you something.”

“Go ahead my dear.”

“Wo… The annual Valentines Day dance is happening today and all my friends really want me to go with them. So I was wondering if I could…”

“Of course you can my dear! You don’t even need to ask.”

“Are you sure Nani?”

“Of course. I don’t mind. If I let Anjali go to these kinds of things, I’m hardly going to stop you. Go out, have a good time and don’t worry about getting home early. Come back whenever you feel like you’ve partied enough.”

Khushi smiled, thanked Nani and began making her way to her room. How was it that people would kill to have her life because they’d pretty much have the ability to do whatever they wanted. Khushi went up to her room and opened up her wardrobe. She really didn’t know what to wear. Just then there was a knock at her door.

“Come in.”

Arnav walked in.

“So you’re going to the party?”

“Yes I am.”

“That’s a good thing then.”

“How so?”

Arnav handed Khushi over a wrapped box.

“I got this for you. I feel like we got off on the wrong foot and maybe I should try a little harder to accept this relationship.”

“Are you being serious?”

“Yeah, I mean, I thought about yesterday and I guess I was being unfair. If we’re both stuck in this relationship we may as well start coming to terms with it.”

Khushi smiled and accepted the present. Maybe things were about to start changing for the better…

I don’t believe in Valentines Day

“Arnav when will you be back?”

“I’ll be late.”

“But you know it’s an important day today! You have to come home early.”

“What important day, its not your birthday, its not my birthday, its not holy, its not Diwali, its nothing, so why?”

“Do you honestly not know what today is?”

“No. I don’t.”

“Its Valentines day!”

Arnav looked up at the calender and saw that it was indeed the 14th of February. He sighed and looked at Khushi.

“Khushi, valentines day is simply a day when all shopkeepers sell cheap chocolates, flowers and cards at extortionate prices.”

“I know that, but it’s a day to express your love for the person you love the most.”

“Baby, we do that every day. This day is nothing special.”

“Do you honestly think that.”

“Yes I do!”

“So you’re not going to wish me?”

“No, I’m not. I don’t see the need to.”

“Why are you always such a kill joy?”

“I can’t help it if I don’t believe in Valentines Day!”

“You don’t believe in anything!”

“Well its better that way isn’t it! I’m not stupid and mindless!”

“Is that what you think of me?”

“Yes it is! Now if you don’t mind, I’m getting late for my meeting.”

With that Arnav grabbed his laptop bag and left a gob smacked Khushi. Khushi felt a surge of anger run through her.

*****

It was later the same day, Khushi had, had a cloud over her head all day. Khushi looked at the clock and noticed it was near enough 9:30pm. Everyone had dinner and then retreated to their individual rooms. Khushi made her way up the stairs to her bedroom and found that it was extremely dark within. She reached out for the light switch and turned the light on, but the light didn’t come on. She walked into the room and the door closed behind her. She jumped and turned but couldn’t see anyone there. She walked further into the room and then saw a matchstick being lit. Khushi saw the little flame being lowered and lit a candle. The figure that lit the candle lifted it and Khushi saw who it was. It was Arnav!

“Oh you’re back.”

Arnav put the candle down and swept Khushi into his arms and placed a light kiss on her cheek.

“Happy valentines day baby.”

“You said that Valentines Day was just a load of rubbish.”

“If my wife believes in it, then I do to.”

“You’re willing to change your mind for me?”

“I’ll change anything for you.”

Khushi blushed and Arnav put her down on the recliner. He clicked his fingers and a whole lot of little tea lights came on.

“Oh wow! How on earth did you do that?”

“Magic baby, magic.”

Khushi looked around and saw all the little tea lights glittering. They were everywhere, even around the pool. There were also petals scattered here and there. Khushi jumped up and hugged Arnav tightly.

“Oh this is all just so beautiful!”

“Nothing is a beautiful as you though.”

Arnav smiled as Khushi blushed. He cupped her face and moved in to kiss her. Khushi closed her eyes, anticipating the soft and warm lips of Arnav’s. Arnav kissed the edges of her lips and then pulled back.

“What happened Arnav?”

Arnav lifted Khushi off her feet and took her over to the bed. Arnav lay her down gently.

“This is our first Valentines Day, the first of many, many more. I’ll always love you baby, no matter what.”

Arnav lowered his body on to hers, aligning his body with hers as he moved in to kiss her…

He’s Amazing ~ Part 100 ~ Final part

“Arnav… You’re going to be a dad.”

Arnav looked at Khushi. Not fully understanding what she was saying.

“Wait, what?”

“You’re going to be a dad.”

“But how?”

“Do you want me to explain?”

“No I get it. But HOW?”

“I’m pregnant, Arnav Singh Raizada, meaning you, are going to be a father.”

Arnav got off the bed, feeling a little confused.

“How far along do you think you are?”

“Don’t think it’s been three months yet.”

“And you’re sure, you’re pregnant?”

“I took three tests. Arnav, are you okay with this?”

“I am… I just… I need some time to think about this all.”

“Okay.”

With that Arnav left the room and Khushi sat there feeling lost. Was he okay with all of this or… Khushi didn’t even want to think about what would happen if he wasn’t ready for this.

Quite a while passed and Arnav didn’t return. Khushi went downstairs looking for him.

“Di, where’s Arnav?”

“He said he’s going out for a drive. He looked really tense. Is everything okay?”

“Yes, everything’s fine.”

With that Khushi slowly walked away. Should she call him or should she give him his space? She decided that she was going to leave him for a while and if he didn’t come back soon she’d call him.

*****

Arnav was in his car, thinking about what Khushi had just told him. Them and a… A baby? Was he ready for that? Were they ready for that? With a baby in their life, everything would change. He sat there, trying to think about what he wanted, what he would do, what would happen…

*****

It was an hour later Arnav arrived home. No one was around so he went straight up to his room to find Khushi sat there, waiting for him. When she saw him, she jumped out off the chair and rushed to him.

“Arnav…”

“Sh let me speak.”

He guided her over to the sofa and made her sit down and he too sat down with her.

“I guess I reacted badly. You just told me, like that, it was completely uncalled for and I didn’t react as well as I would have wanted to. But I’ve had time to think now, get my head straight and…”

Arnav paused and looked away. This caused Khushi to feel highly anxious. Arnav turned his head and pulled out a little bag from his pocket and handed it to Khushi. She looked at him confused and opened it. Inside was a small pair of cream baby booties. Khushi looked up and Arnav smiled and she threw herself into his arms.

“So this means…”

“This means I’m damn excited for our baby to join us!”

Khushi moved back and kissed Arnav full on. They kissed for a little while and then broke apart.

“So what now? Do we tell everyone.”

“I was hoping we could wait a while and then we’ll tell everyone after the first scan.”

“Sounds like a plan to me then! But I’m taking you to the doctors first thing tomorrow so the doctor can tell us how far along they think you are.”

*****

Arnav and Khushi had gone for their first scan. The doctor had said their baby was perfectly healthy and it was doing fine. They also were told the gender of the baby, but of course, they were planning on keeping it a surprise.

“So we’re telling everyone when we get home?”

“Yes, I’ve already told everyone to wait for us in the living room.”

“This is all so exciting!”

Arnav and Khushi parked up in front of the house and they got out of the car. Khushi took a deep breath and took Arnav’s hand. They entered the house and everyone looked at them. Everyone was there just as Arnav had asked for them, even Khushi’s parents and Kabir and his wife.

“What’s the matter Chote, why did you want us all to be here.”

“We have something to tell you all.”

Arnav nodded to Khushi who pulled out a little piece of paper from her bag.

“What’s going on?”

“Di, me and Khushi… We’re going to… WE’RE GOING TO BE PARENTS!”

Everyone looked up, slightly shocked but pleasantly surprised all the same.

“I knew it! I told you that day didn’t I Khushi, that you should have a test done!”

Everyone congratulated the new parents and Arnav and Khushi showed the picture from the scan.

“Do you know if it’s a boy or a girl?”

“We do, but we’ve decided we want to keep it a surprise.”

“Oh come on, you guys have to tell us.”

“Nopeee.”

“I think it’s a girl.”

“No no, the baby is going to be a mini Chote!”

“Khushi have you told Lavanya yet?”

“No aunty, I’m just going to go tell her now! Can I have the picture please, she’ll want to see it too.”

Khushi took the photo and got onto Skype. To her delight Lavanya answered the call.

“Khushi! How are you?”

“I’m fine, you?”

“I was just about to get off the laptop, good timing!”

“La I have some news for you.”

“What is it?”

“Lavanya… Tum… YOU’RE GOING TO A BE A MAUSI!”

“WAIT WHAT!? OMG KHUSHI ARE YOU BEING SERIOUS!?”

“YES!”

“Oh my goodness this is amazing!”

Khushi held up the picture and showed La.

“Do you know if it’s a boy or a girl?”

“We do, but me and Arnav want it to be a surprise.”

“I think the baby has your nose.”

“How can you tell?”

“Just can.”

Just then NK too came into the picture.

“What’s with all the squealing of joy, what am I missing out on? Hi bhabi! How are you?”

“NK, you won’t believe it! Khushi’s going to have a baby!”

“No way! Congratulations bhabi! Where’s Nanav?”

“Nanav has arrived! How you doing NK, and you La?”

“Don’t worry about us! This is so exciting! A baby! Khushi have you told mama and papa? Their first grandchild!”

“Yeah they’re here. They’re so excited. Everyone’s excited.”

They all spoke for a little while and then turned Skype off.

*****

A couple of months passed and Khushi was starting to get rounder. Arnav and Khushi had already begun to buy things for their baby. Arnav wanted to buy all things associated with the specific gender of their baby, however Khushi wanted to keep buying neutral items so no one would work out whether they were having a boy or a girl. Everyone was getting super excited that another baby was soon to join them.

*****

There was less than a month left and Arnav and Khushi’s baby was to be born. So far everything was going well and Arnav and Khushi had everything sorted for the baby. They were just waiting for it to finally come along.

One day, Khushi was sipping on her tea and Arnav was working away when everyone suddenly started rushing around, They all began tidying the house and getting things in order.

“Di, what’s going on? Is someone coming?”

“You’ll just have to wait and see won’t you.”

Khushi looked to Arnav who smirked but shrugged his shoulders all the same.

“Mr Raizada, I know you know what’s going on.”

“I may have some idea, but I’m not about to tell you.”

“Why on earth not?”

“Because I don’t want to. Simple.”

Khushi stood up and huffed.

“Fine don’t tell me. I’m going up to my room.”

“Bye then.”

Khushi left and Arnav laughed.

“Di let’s get everything sorted before madam comes back and foils all our plans.”

“Yes, I will do. Now you hurry up and go.”

“I’m off Di.”

Arnav shut his laptop down, grabbed his jacket and he left the house. An hour later, there was a knock on Khushi’s door.

“You took your time Arnav, but I’m still mad at you.”

“Khushi…”

Khushi’s head snapped round. Since when did Arnav have a female voice. There, stood in her room was no other than Lavanya! She got on to her feet and rushed to La and the two sisters hugged like there was no tomorrow.

“Oh my goodness! What are you doing here!”

“Jiju wanted me to be here when you had the baby. Said he thinks I should be around.”

“So he knew!”

“Of course he did.”

“Is NK here too?”

“Yes, he’s downstairs playing with the babies.”

“I actually cannot believe you’re here! I’m so happy! This is exactly what I wanted!”

“Clearly Jiju knew what you wanted!”

Arnav walked in.

“I hope you like your surprise Khushi.”

Khushi rushed into Arnav’s arms and hugged him tightly.

“Thank you so much!”

“Anything for you.”

*****

Khushi’s hospital bag was packed and they were just waiting for the baby to finally make it’s move. Both Arnav and Khushi were really excited, but it seemed that the baby was being lazy and didn’t want to come into the world.

It was late one evening, Arnav had gone out for a bit and Khushi and Lavanya were sitting around watching TV. Suddenly, Khushi felt her fast contraction. It was a short one and didn’t hurt too much, however she realised it was time.

“La, quickly call NK, we need to get to the hospital.”

“You’ve got to be kidding me.”

“I can feel the baby coming okay. The contractions aren’t too bad yet, but we need to get a move on.”

“Why must the baby decide to move the one day its dad isn’t home.”

But La quickly rushed off to call NK and she brought Anjali down too.

“Okay, so you and NK take Khushi to the hospital and I’ll tell Chote to go straight there and we’ll all start coming in a little bit.”

“Di, don’t worry about coming. The baby may still be a while.”

But right at that moment Khushi felt another contraction.

*****

They’d been at the hospital for 4 hours now. The nurses had said the baby is ready to come but it’s still got a little while. Arnav was walking around, trying to keep his head cool and La was almost jumping off the walls.

“This is so exciting.”

“I dare you to say the same thing when you’re having your kid.”

It was a little while later when it was time. Khushi was taken into a proper labour room and Arnav went too. NK and La waited patiently outside. An hour later, the nurses began to leave one by one.

“You can go in now.”

NK and La enter the room to find Khushi lying in the bed looking up at Arnav who was holding the little baby in his arms.

“Shh, he’s asleep.”

“Oh my gosh, it’s a little boy!”

Lavanya rushed over to see her nephew.

“I was right, he does have your nose Khushi.”

“But he has his dads hair already.”

“Of course he does, he’s mini ASR. Me and Khushi have decided we want to call him Aarav, do you guys think that’s okay?”

“It’s excellent.”

NK smiled and he realised he needed to call Di.

“Call everyone in a little while. I want some time alone with my wife and son.”

NK and La nodded and left the room. Arnav kissed Khushi and passed Aarav to her. She looked at her little boy and then looked at her man.

“You both are such a blessing to me.”

“And you’re a blessing to me.”

“I love you so much, Arnav Singh Raizada.”

“And I, you.”

Khushi looked at her baby and smiled.

“Our boy is beautiful, Khushi. You’ve given me so much to be greatful for.”

“You’ve done the same for me. You know Arnav…”

“What?”

He’s amazing. Just like his dad…”

He’s Amazing ~ Part 99

It had been 2 months since Arnav’s birthday and the Raizada family had been blessed with two baby girls. Anjali and Shyam had called their baby Anaamika and Payal and Akaash named their daughter, Ragini. Everyone was overjoyed and they loved taking it in terms to look after the babies. Payal and Anjali were still resting and Khushi and Manorama took over the kitchen.

However, over the last few weeks, Khushi hadn’t been feeling too well. She’d been to the doctors who said she was suffering from a common flu.

It was late one night and Arnav finally got home and tried to cuddle up to Khushi. But to his dismay she shrugged him off.

“What’s the matter?”

“Nothing, I just don’t feel like it.”

“But Khushi, it’s been the longest time ever since we last…”

“I kmow, I know. But I’m really not feeling up to it.”

*****

“Khushi, hold Anaamika for me please.”

Khushi took the happy little baby into her arms. She was just about drifting off to sleep. Anjali came back and noticed the baby was falling asleep.

“You really have a way with this one, no matter what time of day, she falls asleep when she’s with you. You’d make an amazing mother.”

“No Di, I’m pretty sure I just bore her.”

Anjali laughed.

“I assure you, you don’t bore her. She’s at peace with you, hence why she’s able to fall asleep. It’s a good thing.”

“Well them I’m glad she likes her Maamiji.”

It was just as Khushi was passing the baby back that she suddenly felt really dizzy. She managed to keep a grip of herself and she sat down.

“Khushi what’s the matter?”

“Nothing Di, I just suddenly felt really dizzy.”

“Dizzy?”

“Yes, it’s been happening quite a bit recently.”

“Is that why you went to the doctors?”

“Yes, but they’d just said it was common flu symptoms.”

“Oh. Khushi… Have you maybe thought that you maybe… Pregnant?”

“Pregnant? No no, I can’t be.”

“Have you considered having a test done?”

“Di, I’m sure, it’s not that.”

“Alright, but just to be sure, I think you should have a test done.”

Anjali left the room and Khushi thought for a moment. Could she really be pregnant? Surely not. No no, it couldn’t be that. The doctor himself had said it was just a flu. But of course he hadn’t checked, once she said she was feeling dizzy he’s just dismissed her by saying many other people had been coming in recently with the same issue. And with that Khushi dismissed the thought.

However a week later, Khushi found herself feeling really, really sick every time she ate anything and decided perhaps she should have a test done. Although it was highly unlikely that she was pregnant, it wasn’t something she could rule out. Her and Arnav did make love a lot and there had been a couple of times where she wasn’t particularly careful with protection. So maybe she did need to have the test done.

Later that day she went out and brought a test from the pharmacy. She got home and was lucky to find that no one was around. Everyone must have been resting in their respective bedrooms. Khushi went up and did what was needed to be done…

*****

“Sh*t! What do I do now!?”

Khushi sat down on the floor by the side of the bathtub. She held the test strip in her hand, which clearly showed she was positive. She put the test down and held her hands in her head. She was happy, of course she was, she was carrying hers and her beloveds baby. But at the same time, what would Arnav say? Would he be okay with this? Would he be understanding and supportive, or would he be against this. They had never really spoken about children and when they did, Arnav dismissed the topic by saying that’s not something which should be concerning them yet. Khushi decided that she wouldn’t say anything yet, not until she’d done another test just to be sure.

*****

It was just over a week later and Khushi felt the morning sickness was really starting to kick in. Arnav had noticed all of this yet he didn’t ask Khushi. He felt like she needed her space. It had been so long since she’d let him touch her so he realised she much be really ill. However this particular morning, he realised something needed to be said. He knocked on the bathroom door and when Khuhi didn’t reply, he walked in.

“Khushi are you okay?”

There he found Khushi leaning over the basin, wishing her face and he could see sick in the basin.

“Khushi what the hell? What’s going on? Do I need to call a doctor.”

“No, no, you don’t need to do that.”

“Then can you tell me why this flu of yours hasn’t cleared up yet. You’ve had it for the longest time now.”

Khushi realised she couldn’t hide this matter from him any longer. She cleaned herself up properly and then took Arnav’s hand and led him back into their bedroom. He got him to sit down and then she too sat down beside him.

“Khushi, you’re really worrying me, what’s going on?”

“Arnav… I…”

“What is it?”

“I don’t know how to tell you this.”

“Just tell me Khushi.”

“Arnav… I… We…”

Khushi paused and thought about what she was going to say.

“Arnav… You’re going to be a dad.”

He’s Amazing ~ Part 98

It had been two months since Lavanya and NK had left. To begin with it had been hard for everyone at Shantivan to adjust to the fact that La and NK weren’t there ant more, however it was a fact that they had to get used to. Khushi found it hard to manage, but recently it had gotten a lot easier because she was able to Skype Lavanya on a regular basis. As well as that Khushi’s tutoring program was now in full swing and she had 4 children who came to her once a week. She was fond of the little children and they were fond of her. But other than her tutoring there was something else which Khushi was now preparing for. Arnav’s birthday was now only a week away!

Khushi, the Raizada’s and her parents had decided on having a small family party for Arnav. Arnav however didn’t want any form of fuss, he just wanted to spend the day with Khushi.

*****

It was the day of Arnav’s birthday and Arnav woke up to find Khushi not in bed.

He looked around and then his eyes fell on her, looking for something in her wardrobe.

“Morning baby.”

Khushi jumped and turned.

“What’s the matter with you, you look so startled to see me awake.”

“No it’s just… Happy birthday baby!”

Khushi came rushing towards Arnav and sat down on the bed next to him and kissed him. Arnav reached out and took hold of her, pulling her closer to himself. Khushi moved into him. His hands went into her nightdress, which she still hadn’t got changed out of yet. Arnav made to take her nightie off when Khushi backed away.

“What the…?”

“No we can’t do that.”

“Why the hell not.”

“Because I said so.”

“But Khushi it’s my birthday!”

“Oh well.”

With that Khushi got off the bed and grabbed her towel.

“Oh and don’t worry about work, you’re not going in today.”

“Khushi it’s only my birthday and we’re not doing anything so I may as well just go to work.”

“Come on baby, you have to stay, for me.”

“Let me get this straight. It’s my birthday and you won’t let me touch you but at the same time you don’t want me to go to work.”

“That’s right!”

“Where is the logic?”

“Mr Raizada. I said you’re not going to work and that means you’re not going to work. Get it?”

“Yes, fine, whatever.”

Arnav grabbed his phone and called Aman and told him that he wasn’t going to be able to come in. Khushi walked out of the bathroom a little later, fully dressed.

“Can you tell me what’s going on?”

“Okay fine, it wasn’t meant to be a surprise any way, but we’re having a small family party.”

“Khushi, I told you not to make a fuss.”

“I know you did, but it’s your first birthday since we got married.”

“You know, it would have been special for me if I just spent the day with you.”

“I know, but I want us to share it with the family too. Besides, last year, your birthday was pretty much just me and you if you’ve forgotten.”

“No it wasn’t. We had a party remember?”

“But you seem to have forgotten what happened after…”

Arnav looked at Khushi, trying to work out what she was talking about and then it all came back to him.

“It was the first time we made love.”

“Yes, we made love for the first time after your party.”

“So it’s our one year anniversary as well. Don’t you think we should celebrate that?”

Khushi blushed a deep shade of red.

“Come on Khushi, you’re depriving the birthday boy here.”

“You’ll just have to wait Arnav.”

“So that means you will let us make love later?”

“Maybe… Now get out of bed and get dressed. After breakfast, I’m taking you out for the entire afternoon.”

“Right, and when is this party then?”

“Well we have to be back home for 6, so I guess after that.”

“And when does birthday boy get the pleasure he deserves.”

“When birthday boy does as he’s told and comes out with me.”

“Fine.”

With that Arnav got out of bed.

*****

An hour or so later, Arnav and Khushi had finished their breakfast and were on their way to the cinema.

“Khushi, you know we never actually watch anything in the cinema. We just make out.”

“Mr Raizada. I’ve organised for them to have Mission Impossible played just for you. So it’ll just be me and you there watching your favourite film.”

“Mission Impossible!? Oh my god Khushi I love you!”

“I know you do.”

Once they parked, Arnav almost ran into the cinema. Once the doorman told them where to go, Arnav and Khushi went into the right screening hall and when they were settled with their popcorn, the movie began.

“I remember the first time I watched this.”

“Me too. Now sh, the film’s starting.”

The film began and Arnav started munching away at his popcorn like a child. Khushi watched his expression as he watched the film, he looked so cute. Khushi cuddled up to him and they enjoyed the film together.

Once the film ended Arnav gave Khushi a light kiss.

“Best present you could have given me!”

“I’m glad you liked it baby. Now, we’re going to a British style cafe for a date. I heard they do some awesome coffee.”

“But you don’t drink coffee?”

“They have some amazing hot chocolate there as well.”

So Arnav and Khushi got back into the car and made their way t the little cafe. Arnav thought it would be like every other cafe which claimed to be in the style of a foreign country. They all served Indian style tea and coffee. However the moment he saw this one he realised it really would be different. It was a cute little coffee shop and was built in the style of an English cottage. They got out of the car and Khushi took Arnav’s hand. They walked in and they took a corner table. A waitress walked over to them and asked what she could get them.

“I would like a hot chocolate with extra cream and can you get my husband a black coffee with no sugar.”

“Would you like any muffins or cake to go with that?”

“Er can we have a carrot cake and a chocolate chip muffin.”

The waitress nodded and then left them.

“I must say Khushi, this really is a nice little place.”

“Me and Di drove past here one day and we came in and had a coffee. They’re really good.”

Arnav looked around and saw other people enjoying their tea. He looked on further and saw a couple in a corner booth kissing. Khushi noticed this too.

“Yeah this place is quite a romantic kind of cafe, it’s acceptable to make out here, no one seems to mind. Hence why me and Di took our drinks with us.”

“So how about we get a little cosy too them.”

“Nice try Mr Raizada. We’re here to enjoy the food.”

A few moments later the waitress reappeared with their food.

“Enjoy, and if you’d like anything else, just let me know.”

Khushi nodded and the woman walked away. Arnav and Khushi both began to slowly sip away at their beverages.

“Mmm, it’s really good Khushi.”

“Have the carrot cake, it’s in their diabetic friendly menu, so it should be alright for you.”

Arnav took a bite of the cake and instantly loved it. He offered Khushi a bite and she took it. It was really good, however she wasn’t much of a carrot kind of person. Arnav and Khushi made small talk over their tea and when they were  done they began to make their way home.

Once they got home they were told to go straight up to their room and take their time to get ready.

“Di, really there isn’t any need for any of this fuss.”

“Chote, get yourself upstairs and get ready.”

*****

An hour and a half later the party was in full swing and Khushi was just bringing out the cake. Everyone began to sing happy birthday. Khushi places the cake infront of Arnav and passes him the knife to cut it. But he refuses to do it without her. So they cut the cake together. Khushi feeds Arnav a slice of the cake and then he does the same to her. He then goes round to all the members of the house and gives them all a bite of cake.

Once everyone has eaten some cake the music comes on and Khushi offers Arnav her hand so that they could dance. Arnav laughed and the lights went down. Once they started to dance everyone else too began to dance slowly too.

“Thanks Khushi, the day actually has been really good.”

“I’m glad you enjoyed it.”

“I did. It wasn’t an extravagant Khushi plan.”

“Well the day isn’t over yet so…”

“Baby, I’m tired to do anything else today.”

“Too tired?”

“Yes.”

“So I guess that means you don’t want us to celebrate our one year anniversary.”

“Oh! That changes things.”

And with that, Arnav lifted Khushi off the ground. He signaled for the music to be turned off.

“You guys carry on. But birthday boy needs to get his present off his wife you know.”

Everyone laughed and Arnav and Khushi left. Once they reached the door of their bedroom, Arnav put her down and kissed her furiously as they tumbled into their room together, lips fused together, hands desperately trying to find the hems of clothing to pull them off. Arnav held Khushi and pushed her into the wall. He then pulled off her kameez and freed her of her bra.

“You’re so god damn perfect.”

He allowed his lips to trail down her neck and Khushi pulled Arnav’s shirt off. She let her hands run over his chest. He moved them over to the bed where he pulled away at her shelwar and panties and then removed his own trousers and boxers. He didn’t waste time and went straight in. Higher and higher they both went until they reached their destination. Arnav remained within Khushi, his cat like grin never wavering.

“Happy birthday Arnav Singh Raizada.”

He’s Amazing ~ Part 97

It was now 6 months after Lavanya and NK’s wedding. Everything was going great. Lavanya had settled into the Raizada family. NK’s parents had gone back to Australia and were trying to get everything sorted so that they could take Lavanya to Australia. Arnav and Khushi were as busy as ever. Arnav was always away working and Khushi had decided to start tutoring children so she wouldn’t get bored at home alone. Kabir had gone on to get married to his long term girlfriend and they now had a flat of their own.

A few days later, NK’s parents came back to India and announced that everything was now ready for them to take Lavanya to Australia. Everyone was sad that La would soon be leaving them, especially Khushi. The great day finally arrived.

“I actually cannot believe you’re leaving us already.”

“I know Di, I was really hoping to be around when the babies are born.”

“It’s alright, as soon as you’re all settled you can come straight back to see us again.”

“I guess so. Di, did Khushi say whens she’s going to come. We have to leave here at half 8 and it’s already 4.”

“I’m afraid not. She isn’t answering her phone or their house phone. I called Chote too 10 minutes ago and he didn’t answer either.”

“Do you think they’re busy with something?”

“I’m going to assume so.”

Lavanya looked away feeling slightly disheartened. Everyone was around to see her leave. Her parents were still around, her friends had all popped in and out, even Kabir paid her a visit before she went. She hadn’t heard from or seen Khushi in days now…

*****

“Come on now baby, I know you’re upset but we have to go see Lavanya and NK off.”

Arnav and Khushi were in their house, cuddled together on the sofa in their living room. Khushi had her head buried in Arnav’s chest and she was crying. That was pretty much all she’d been doing the last few days. But today was the worst. She’d woken up crying and she was still crying. Arnav had stayed at home because he knew he couldn’t leave Khushi like this.

“I… I can’t do it Arnav! How am I meant to go round there and see my sister off like that. God knows when I’m going to see her again.”

“Khushi, I know it’s hard for you. It’s going to be hard for everyone, think about your parents. But Khushi you can’t not go and see Lavanya off. Think about how bad she’s going to feel.”

“But if she sees me like this, it’s going to be even worse.”

“Baby come on. You know if you don’t go and see her, you’re only going to regret it as soon as she’s gone.”

“I know…”

“So go and get dressed, we’ve got to get their quickly before they leave.”

Khushi wiped her eyes and went into their room to get ready. Arnav pulled his phone out of his pocket and found that he’d missed many calls from Anjali and from other members of the family. He called Di back.

“What’s the matter Di?”

“Where are you guys Chote? Has it occurred to you that NK and Lavanya are leaving soon and La feels really upset Khushi isn’t here.”

“I know Di. Khushi’s been crying all morning and it’s been so hard to calm her down. But she’s getting ready now so we’ll be there in a bit.”

“Oh, okay, but hurry.”

Anjali disconnected the call and went and told everyone that Arnav and Khushi were on their way.

“Why are they only coming now?”

“Khushi’s been really upset and Chote’s just managed to calm her down and make her see sense that she needs to see you off.”

Lavanya nodded to show she understood.

It was half an hour later when Arnav and Khushi arrived. Khushi walked in and looked around. All of Lavanya and NK’s suitcases were already down the side of the entrance hall. Her sister was leaving her. They’d always been together, right from when they were 4 and then she moved in with them. Lavanya was always with her and now…

“Arnav, I can’t do this.”

Arnav took Khushi’s hand.

“I know this is hard for you, but you know how much it’s going to hurt you if you don’t see Lavanya off. And it’s going to hurt her as well.”

“I know, I know.”

They walked into the house and Lavanya came running to Khushi. She gave Khushi a big hug and both started to cry.

“What took you so long, I thought you weren’t going to see me off.”

“La…”

Both hugged each other and cried for a little while.

“Ladies, I know this is a bad time but can you do this further inside the house and not in the front entrance?”

Khushi looked at Arnav and glared at him, but regardless Khushi and La walked into the house.

“It feels weird. I mean I always had to leave, but it feels like the time has come way too soon.”

“You’re telling me! It feels like you and NK only got married the other day. It’s just been over 6 months.”

Anjali saw Arnav and Khushi come in a smiled. The rest of the family members soon too noticed. Everyone nodded them in and smiled.

“Chote, Khushi, you’ve arrived. I’ll get the tea, we were waiting for you.”

“No Di, you can’t make tea in your condition, I’ll do it.”

“Yes and I’ll help Khushi.”

“We’ll make everyone tea, together for the last time.”

Khushi and Lavanya left for the kitchen and Payal too said she’d help them but Arnav stopped her.

“They need time to talk. Any way, where’s NK, I need to give him a pep talk too.”

“Akaash is with him, giving him a pep talk!”

“Good old Akaash, looks like I’ve got to join them.”

Arnav went upstairs and headed for NK’s room. He knocked and then entered.

In the kitchen Khushi and La were making the teas.

“Are you all packed?”

“Yes. But I still feel like there’s so much to do still.”

“It’s weird isn’t it, packing up your life.”

“Khushi, we always knew I’d have to go, but now… I don’t think I want to do this any more.”

“I understand you’re feeling scared, but La, you have an amazing life ahead of you.”

“I know, but you, ma, papa, Di, jiju, everyones so far away!”

“It’s going to be tough, but you know what we said before. Whatsapp, Skype, we have everything. We can talk all the time and it’ll feel like we’re both still in India. I mean, since I got married, I was either here or at my house and you were at home or you were here when I wasn’t. La, we’ve grown up now and this is our lives now.”

“We will see each other won’t we. I mean, once I go, it’s not going to be like 10 years until we see each other again is it?”

“No of course not. Arnav said that NK said that as soon as you guys get all settled he hopes to bring you back and Arnav said we can go to Australia some time too.”

“Promise?”

“I promise.”

“But Khushi, honestly, how am I meant to manage without you. We’ve always been together for everything.”

“Like I said, it’s going to be hard to begin with, but then we’ll manage like we always do. And just because we’re going to be far apart, shouldn’t make a difference to our relationship.”

“I know, I’m just really scared.”

Meanwhile, upstairs Akaash and Arnav were still talking to NK.

“Now, you’re going to Australia again but remember you’re not going back as NK the eligible bachelor. You’re married now, so that means you can’t flirt with other girls.”

“Nanav, what do you think of me. I have a gorgeous wife, I’m hardly going to go and flirt with some random chick.”

“You better not. You hurt my sister-in-law, you hurt my wife. You hurt my wife, I hurt YOU.”

“Nanav, you’re really scaring me now.”

Akaash realised he needed to intervene.

“What Nanav, I mean bhai, is trying to say is that you have to be careful. Because when you go back, if you hurt La’s feelings, she’s got no one there. You’re all she has so you have to take care of her. Make sure you fulfill all her needs.”

“I see now, and don’t worry, I will take care of her.”

“NK bhai, there’s something else we need to talk about.”

“What is it?”

Akaash nodded to Arnav who prepared what he was going to say.

“NK, you and Lavanya are young, and you’re about to start a new life…”

“Nanav, you said this to me at my stag do?”

“I know, but this is slightly different. What we want to say to you is that, you and La and young and when you go back to Australia you’re going to be pretty much on your own. And for that reason we want you to be careful.”

“Careful? What do you mean?”

“Basically. We’re telling you to make sure when you and La make love, that you use protection.”

“What the…”

“Listen, you’re young, you don’t want to have to deal with kids yet do you? Exactly, you don’t, so make sure you’re well protected.”

“Right well, I get the message so can we end this awkward conversation now please?”

*****

The boys came back down and found that Khushi and Lavanya had served tea. Everyone was sat together in the living room, enjoying the last time they all had together. Khushi and Lavanya both had red eyes, yet they sat together and drank tea together with a smile on their faces.

“NK beta, we should hurry and then get going, there’s going to be traffic and we need to get their early so we can check in.”

NK and Lavanya nodded and finished their tea. Reality really began to hit home for everyone. Lavanya, NK and his parents did a sweeping check to make sure that they had everything. NK counted the luggage and made that they had everything and Lavanya went round and hugged everyone farewell. By the time she finally got to Khushi she was in tears.

“I’m going to miss you so much Khushi.”

“I’m going to miss you too…”

Anjali stood there watching and she felt her heart break for the sisters. Finally Khushi and Lavanya pulled apart.

“Should we come with you to the airport?”

“No Nanav, we’ve spoken to the driver and he’s going to take us, it’s fine there’s no need for anyone to come.”

“Khushi do you want to go or?”

“No jiju, I don’t want you guys to come, if you come with us, I’ll never be able to go.”

Arnav nodded and everyone said their goodbyes. Finally, it was time. Lavanya crossed the threshold of Shantivan, towards her new life…
