Dhadkan

IMG_0922.JPG

Head banging from the after affects of yesterday’s baang, Khushi struggled to open her eyes. But the light was hitting her eyelids and she knew that it was time to get up. Stretching her arms out, she realised that her movement was restricted. Opening her eyes a little more, the sight before her left her slightly baffled. Arnav ji…

Moving back slightly, she reached out and moved his hair out of his eyes. They were in the same bed? How did this happen? It was then all the memories of the night before slowly started coming back to her.

“Hamari dil ki dhadkan ek hojati hai…”

She remembered how they had come close to each other, touched each other in a way they had never done so before, the way they had whispered words of love to each other, the way they took their relationship to the next level. The way they’d made love to each other.

Eyes now wide, Khushi moved the sheets off of Arnav slightly, revealing his exposed chest to her. Covering him again, she looked at herself. She was naked, not even underwear on her.

Replaying the previous night, Khushi recalled everything that had happened between them, blushing a deep shade of red as she remembered it all.

Arnav started stirring in his sleep, and slowly he too began to open his eyes. Memories of the night before flooded him and his eyes snapped open only to find Khushi staring back at him.

“Good morning…”

Blushing, she moved into him, hiding her face in his chest. She raised her hands and placed it on his upper arms and pressed light kisses on his chest.

Closing his eyes, Arnav let her hands move across his body as she carried on placing kisses on his skin. Pushing him back, Khushi moved over Arnav, clutching the sheets to her chest as she continued kissing his exposed body. His hand slowly came up to hold her, but then it all came back to him. His reason for the marriage, the reason he’d kept his distance from her all this time.

Pushing her off of himself, Arnav got out of bed.

“Arnav ji…”

Getting up, Khushi moved to the edge of the bed, trying to reach out to him.

“Don’t touch me!”

“Arnav ji…”

“Don’t come near me.”

Turning away, Arnav grabbed a t-shirt that was lying on the floor and pulled it over his head. She noticed how at some point in the night he’d put his boxers back on.

“What’s wrong?”

“Don’t talk to me.”

“Arnav ji…”

“For gods sake Khushi, stay the hell away from me before I say or do something that’s out of my control.”

With that, Arnav grabbed his towel and went into the bathroom. He needed time to think and he couldn’t do it when she was around. Slamming the door behind him, Arnav locked the door, leaving a very confused Khushi on the bed.

What was happening? Why was he behaving like this? After what had happened between them last nights…

*****

“Arnav ji, please speak to me, what happened? What’s wrong? Why are you so angry with me?”

How did she not know what was wrong? Was she really that shameless. Anger ran through Arnav’s body. Turning around, he grabbed her by the upper arms, pulling her into himself.

“You’re asking me what’s wrong? Why am I angry? How do you not know.”

“Arnav ji…”

“You act so innocent but really you’re…”

“I’m what?”

Tears ran down Khushi’s face. Why was he being like this? Why was he treating her like this when the night before he had handled her so delicately, with so much love and care. They’d become one, their heartbeats had come together in a way she didn’t know was possible. Then why now was he being like this?

“You disgust me Khushi Kumari Gupta. You are disgusting.”

Pushing her away, Arnav left the room, he couldn’t stand to see her face for even a moment longer. How could she? How could she let him go so close to her when she wanted Shyam? How could she do that?

*****

Weeks passed by and Khushi tried her best to try and get through to Arnav. But it seemed as though something had switched off in him. Before, at least sometimes he would show some compassion towards her, but now, all she saw was hatred. She had tried to get close to him, show him how much he meant to her, but he remained unresponsive, always pushing her away, throwing hurtful words over his shoulder at her before he left. She didn’t understand. Why was he being like this? What had she done wrong?

Arnav walked into their bedroom, and Khushi walked over to him to take his bag from him.

“How was your day at work?”

“Get lost.”

Her patience with him had slowly reaching its limit and today she finally snapped.

“Why are you like this? What did I do to you to make you behave like this with me?”

“Leave now before I say something.”

“No. I won’t. Say something. Anything to explain why you’ve been so hostile towards since that night we…”

Spinning around to face her, Arnav grabbed hold of her.

“That night we… What did we do that night?”

“Arnav ji you’re hurting me.”

“No tell me, what did we do that night?”

“You know very well what we did.”

“I don’t know about you. But I made the biggest mistake of my life that night.”

He let go of her, and Khushi felt her heart break ever so slightly. He… He regretted…

“The biggest mistake of my life. I don’t know what happened to me or how it happened. But it did and I regret it like nothing else. I’m disgusted at myself for touching you like that. But more than that, you disgust me. The fact that you could… Disgusting.”

“But I don’t understand. We made love…”

“Don’t.”

She tried to reach out to him, tried to put her hand on his shoulder, but he shrugged away, moving away from her.

“We didn’t do anything disgusting? What happened between us was pure and true…”

“SHUT UP. Do you have no shame? No respect? You, Khushi Kumari Gupta, are a sl*t. You slept with me when… I can’t believe I let that happen. It makes me want to boil myself so I can be clean again. You’re disgusting.”

He left the room, slamming the door behind himself. His words rang in her ears.

“You, Khushi Kumari Gupta, are a sl*t.”

Why did he think that of her? Why would he use such a word? She hadn’t done anything wrong. She’d taken what her husband had given her. She had expressed her love for him in the same way he had done. Then why?

Breaking down, Khushi fell to the floor, her heart breaking, her head hurting. Why was this happening? Why was he being like this?

*****

Days passed and nothing changed between Arnav and Khushi. He remained hostile and aggressive, avoiding her most of the time, only speaking to her when he had something harsh to throw at her. To begin with, Khushi had dealt with it, she was used to his hatred, however after a while she could feel it all taking a toll on her health. Her head hurt more often, she felt drowsy and nauseous. She couldn’t understand what was happening to her.

In the kitchen, Khushi was with Payal, preparing dinner for the evening when all of a sudden she felt light headed. Grabbing hold of the counter, Khushi stopped herself from falling but not before Payal noticed.

“Khushi! What’s the matter?”

“Nothing Jiji, I just felt a bit dizzy, I’m fine, don’t worry.”

“Go and sit down, I’ll bring some juice over to you.”

“Jiji, I promise, I’m fine. I’ve just not been sleeping to well.”

A thought hit Payal and her eyes widened.

“Khushi… Are you…”

“Kya Jiji?”

“Have you felt dizzy before?”

“Haan, a lot of the time. But like I said, I haven’t been sleeping properly. I’m just really tired.”

“Really tired or preg…”

Jaw dropping and eyes wide, Khushi looked at Payal who had a slight smirk on her lips.

“No no Jiji, I can’t be pre… No, I’m just tired.”

Getting to her feet, Khushi rushed to her room. She hadn’t even considered that she might be pregnant. She couldn’t be. No, no not at all.

Going into her room, Khushi picked up her phone and opened up her calendar app. The last time she had had her period was before Holi. And Holi had been over a month ago… She thought about her symptoms, yes she had been feeling sick and dizzy but that didn’t mean she was… But she had never been late in her life. Surely one night hadn’t left her… She couldn’t even say it. She couldn’t be. But she needed to be sure.

Locating her bag, Khushi rushed out of her room again. She needed to get to a pharmacy.

*****

Looking at the results of all three strips in her hand, tears fell from Khushi’s eyes. All three screamed positive. She fell back against the wall of the bathroom. Why was this happening? Why now?

She turned her attention back to the pregnancy tests, tears of happiness finally fell from her eyes. Her hand rested on her still flat tummy and she smiled. She was carrying a child. Hers and Arnav’s child. The result of their love and their passion filled night. But then she remembered his harsh words.

“You, Khushi Kumari Gupta, are a sl*t.”

She had to tell him. She couldn’t keep this away from him. Regardless of what he thought of her, this was his child too and she wasn’t going to let him turn around and walk away. Not now.

*****

“Khushi ji, what’s the matter, you look so distracted.”

Brought out of her thoughts, Khushi smiled at Anjali. She knew that Di would be happier than anyone else in the house to find out that her Chote was going to have a Chote, but Khushi wanted to tell Arnav first before telling anyone else.

“I’m fine Di. I was just thinking of calling him. I need to talk to him about something.”

“I don’t know if he’ll answer now Khushi ji. He’s probably on his way to the airport.”

“Airport?”

Airport? Why was he at the airport?

“Haan! He’s going to London.”

Anjali stopped when she saw the confusion in Khushi’s eyes.

“Wait, didn’t you know?”

Shaking her head, Khushi looked away. He was going to London? Why? Why hadn’t he said anything to her? How could he just leave without saying anything? She needed to see him before he went to London. She needed to stop him. He couldn’t just leave like this. Not before he knew about their baby.

*****

She saw him, just as he was about to enter the airport. Running towards him, Khushi tried to make her way through the crowd. She needed to get to Arnav before he left. She needed to tell him the truth.

She pushed forward, and finally reached him. She grabbed hold of the sleeve of his suit jacket.

“What the…”

Spinning around, Arnav looked at Khushi, disbelief that she was there.

“What are you doing here?”

“You can’t go to London! I need to speak to you about something very important.”

“Khushi, I really don’t have time for you right now, I’m already late.”

He turned away but Khushi grabbed hold of his hand, he couldn’t go. Arnav turned back, shaking his head. He took his other hand and used it to peel her fingers away from his.

“Please.”

Pushing her hand away, Arnav moved away and entered the airport, leaving Khushi behind him.

*****

A week and a half had passed and Arnav was finally coming home. Khushi had called him over and over again, but he hadn’t answered her calls. But she was aware that he had been in contact with Di, Nani and Akash, letting them know how he was getting on.

It hurt, that he hadn’t even bothered to answer her call once, just tell her once that he was okay, but she was used to it. She had bigger things to worry about at this moment of time.

Since finding out that she was pregnant, Khushi found that she felt sick more and more often and it was starting to become a chore to hide her pregnancy from the family. But Arnav was coming home now. As soon as she told him, she would be able to tell everyone else as well.

It was late in the evening when Arnav finally arrived. Di served him food, asking all about his time away. Khushi could tell he was tired but he replied to his Di politely, telling her everything she wanted to know.

“Arre, look at the time! Chote, you should go to bed, you’ve had a long day.”

Nodding, he got to his feet and made his way up to their room, Khushi followed him.
Once inside the confinement of their bedroom, Khushi pulled out the file that the doctor had given her earlier in the week when she had a check up.

“How was your trip?”

“I went there for work, it wasn’t a holiday.”

“I know but…”

“Also, I don’t appreciate the fact that you caused a scene when you found out I was going. I didn’t tell you because I didn’t feel you needed to know. You didn’t need to cause such a fuss.”

“I’m your wife! I had every right to know where you were going.”

Arnav scoffed and turned to his wardrobe but Khushi reached out for him and stopped him.

“Arnav ji, I need to tell you something.”

“I don’t want to listen to anything you have to say.”

“Please, just listen to me.”

Turning to face her, Khushi could tell he wasn’t bothered about what she had to say. But she had to tell him, he needed to know.

“Woh… Mein… I…”

“Spit it out or stop waisting my time.”

Taking a deep breath, Khushi mentally prepared herself for what was to come.

“I’m pregnant.”

Arnav stopped for a moment, his face draining of colour as he took in what she was saying.

“What?”

“Aap papa bane wale hai.”

“How?”

“I…”

“No I know how, but HOW. We’ve never…”

Flashes of that night came back to Arnav and he ran his hand through his hair. Surely… Then all of a sudden his expression hardened again.

“You’re lying.”

“No… I…”

“What are you trying to do? Act like you’re having my child so that you can get more money off of me?”

Shaking her head frantically, Khushi tried to pass him the file that she was holding in her hands. Arnav took it from her and threw it across the room.

“Listen to me and listen carefully. You aren’t getting a penny out of me. So I suggest you end this little drama now. I’ll even be gracious enough to act as though this never happened.”

“But Arnav ji…”

He raised his hand, to tell her to stop talking. Girls like her, what could he expect. She was trying to use his one moment of weakness against him, but he wasn’t going to allow it, he wouldn’t fall for her tricks.

“Please just look at the file.”

Taking hold of his towel, Arnav went into the bathroom. He was done. He didn’t need to hear any more. She could carry on spouting her rubbish, he wasn’t going to take any of it in.

Once the door of the bathroom shut, Khushi fell to the floor, her hand resting on her tummy, tears falling thick and fast from her eyes. Why wouldn’t he believe her? Why did he think so lowly of her? She was carrying his child and he thought she way lying? Making it up for money? How could he do that!? Wiping her tears away, Khushi realised that it didn’t matter if he didn’t believe her now. In a matter of a few weeks, she would start showing and he would have no option but to believe her. But in the meantime, should she tell everyone?

Deciding against it, Khushi decided not to say anything yet. She was not yet 8 weeks pregnant, it was still early. She would wait, until Arnav believed her and then they would be able to share the news of their child together.

*****

Another week had passed and Khushi’s attempts to make Arnav believe her had gone to waste. He wouldn’t listen to her, and he refused to acknowledge anything she was trying to say.

However, at some point it did make Arnav think. What if she really was pregnant? That night, they hadn’t used protection and he didn’t know if she was on birth control. What if she really was pregnant? What if he really was going to become a father?

Arnav pushed the thoughts away. She was lying, she had to be. With that in mind, Arnav made his way downstairs, only to find that everyone was busy, working away.

“Di, what’s going on?”

“We’re holding a pooja today. So we are all just preparing for that.”

Rolling his eyes, Arnav asked if there was anything he could help with. Anjali shook her head but said to check if Khushi needed anything.

“I’m sure she’s fine Di.”

“She probably is, but I still want you to go and check if she needs any help.”

Nodding, Arnav went over to the kitchen and saw that Khushi was busy at the cooker. She didn’t look like she needed any help, so Arnav stood back, just watching her. His eyes dropped to her stomach, there was no sign of a baby growing within her, but after doing the math, he realised that even if there was, she wouldn’t start showing just yet. He was about to leave, when he saw Khushi raising her hand to her head. She swayed slightly but grabbed onto the counter to steady herself. Arnav rushed to her side.

“Khushi, what’s wrong?”

“Dizzy…”

Rushing over to the sink, Arnav poured her a glass of water and came back. Taking Khushi’s into her arms, Arnav held her and the glass while he made her sip at the water but it was futile as Khushi still fainted.

*****

“There’s nothing to worry about at all, Khushi is absolutely fine. Fainting and feel light headed during pregnancy is all normal. Just try to stop her from doing anything that causes too much pressure or stress.”

“Wait Khushi ji is pregnant?”

“Haan. Hasn’t she told anyone yet? She came to my office a couple of weeks ago for a check up and I told her then that she was pregnant. Perhaps she hasn’t said anything yet because it is still fairly early.”

The doctor took his leave and all eyes rounded on Arnav. Khushi was still unconscious but was slowly beginning to come round.

“Khushi ji… Pregnant?”

Arnav couldn’t believe it. She really was pregnant. She hadn’t been lying. Anger ran through Arnav’s body.

But before he could say anything, his Di hugged him.

“Congratulations Chote! I can’t believe it, my Chote is going to have his own Chote?”

The family members all came round to Arnav one by one, hugging him and congratulating him before going and sitting beside Khushi who was slowly opening her eyes.

“This is amazing! Chote, my baby and your baby are going to be so similar in age! They’re going to grow up together!”

It was then a thought crossed Arnav’s mind, something he hadn’t thought of before. Hadn’t even considered it. He looked up and looked at his jijaji, who was as pale as a sheet of paper. Could he be… Arnav’s hands fisted by his side. He knew Khushi had been having an affair with Shyam, but had it carried on after they got married? Could she be expecting Shyam’s child?

*****

Now in her eighth month of pregnancy, Khushi was very round. She waddled along the house like a penguin, and everyone pampered her, not letting her do anything for herself.

Anjali had recently given birth to a healthy baby girl and now the Raizada’s were waiting on Arnav and Khushi’s baby.

Arnav had remained hostile towards her, never saying what was on his mind, but always taunting her and reminding her of her status. Khushi took all his abuse, never saying anything against him. She didn’t have the energy any more and she knew that she needed to stay strong for her baby. Her baby had now become her life, and she couldn’t wait until she could finally hold him or her. Every time she had gone to a scan, she had come home in tears, upset that she still had to wait longer until she could actually hold her little baby in her arms. Every time she saw her baby’s heartbeat, it made her own swell with pride and joy. There was a little person with their own heartbeat growing within her.

Arnav had refused to go with her to her doctors appointments.

Khushi’s pregnancy so far hadn’t been easy. She kept feeling sick for a very long time and her doctor had warned her of complications at time of birth. But Khushi didn’t care. She had faith that everything would be okay and that soon enough she would be able to hold her baby.

Earlier in the day, Khushi had been out shopping with Di, and she had brought some baby clothes. She was now tidying them away when Arnav came home.

“Arnav ji look, I brought some baby clothes today.”

He didn’t turn around, didn’t look at the little sleep suit that she was holding up.

“Arnav ji, look na.”

Throwing his briefcase down onto the bed, Arnav walked up to Khushi and grabbed her by the upper arms.

“I don’t want to look at your god damn baby clothes because I want nothing to do with you or your baby.”

She had controlled her temper for months, but she finally felt herself lose it. Pulling herself out of Arnav’s grip, Khushi threw the little sleep suit onto the bed.

“What the hell is your problem? Why are you like this? This isn’t just my baby! It’s your baby too. Why the hell cant you accept us?”

“Because I know the little spawn inside of you isn’t my kid.”

Taking a step back, Khushi looked up at Arnav. What did he just say? Why would he say that? How could he think…

“Caught you out on your lie, don’t you have anything to say for yourself now?”

“You think our baby is… You think someone else is the father? Why would you think that? How could you think that!?”

“Because I know you!”

Feeling her temper rising once more, Khushi moved into Arnav.

“How the hell can you think like that about me?”

“Because I know about yours and Shyam’s affair! I have done, for a long time. I’ve known since the day we got married.”

Blood running cold, Khushi looked up at Arnav. He knew about Shyam. He’d known since their wedding day? But he thought she was having an affair…

“I knew you were characterless when I married you, but listening to you talk about your god damn baby, being so proud and happy… You disgust me. What happened? Did he not accept his child? Is that why you’ve been hellbent on trying to make me believe that this is my baby?”

“You think I was having…”

“I know you were! I saw you, in his arms, on the terrace. I heard you tell him to leave my Di.”

“You misunderstood…”

“No, I heard you, and I saw you.”

“You heard and saw what you wanted to see and hear.”

“I know the truth, he told me everything.”

“Did he tell you how he lied to me and my family about being single? Did he tell you how he fooled me and my whole family so that he could get engaged to me? Did he tell you that I broke off our engagement the moment I found out that he was married? No, no he didn’t. He must have told you his f*cked up version of the truth and you lapped it up. Why didn’t you ask me!?”

Jabbing her finger into his chest, she made her point. God, she’d been so in love with this man and now… She couldn’t stand him. How could he have thought so low of her. Tears pricked Khushi’s eyes and she let them flow.

Her words ringing in his ears, his heart was telling him that she was telling the truth, but how could he trust her words.

Dropping her hand to her stomach, Khushi cried. Cried for herself, cried for her baby, just cried.

“All these months, I couldn’t understand why you were being like this. I tried to understand but nothing made sense to me. All these months you’ve been believing a lie, letting it come between us. You’ve been living with that lie, letting it consume you and I… I was living with the memories of that night. That one night where I thought you loved me and cared for me. You thought the worst of me, believed that our baby wasn’t ours and I… Our baby became my life because he or she proved that you had some love for me in your heart. You’ve hated me and pushed me away for something I didn’t do. And here I was, waiting for you, hoping you would find love for me and our baby and you’d accept us.”

She stood there, crying her eyes out. Arnav remained rooted to the spot he was standing in. He couldn’t move. He felt paralysed with the weight of her words. She wasn’t lying, he could tell, she wasn’t. His eyes fell to her tummy. She really was carrying his baby…

Taking a step towards her, he stretched out his hand, trying to reach out to her. But something changed in Khushi. Her face changed, crippled with pain. She let out a yell of pain.

“Khushi, Khushi what’s wrong?”

“Baby…”

“What about the baby?”

She clutched her belly, her eyes shut, tears rolling down her face.

“I think the baby is coming.”

“But you’ve still got a month to go.”

Falling to the ground, Arnav took hold of her, lifting her into his arms.

“Just breathe.”

He rushed out of the room, calling for Di and Akash. He explained what was happening and Di gasped, Khushi was having contractions.

“Get her to the hospital now!”

The pain was overwhelming Khushi and the weight of Arnav’s words jabbed at her heart over and over again. How could he believed that she was sleeping with his brother in law? How could he believe that the product of their love was someone else’s? How? How? HOW?

The effect of everything suddenly felt all consuming and Khushi couldn’t hold onto anything any more. Her will to live was slipping, her will to fight. Slowly she lost consciousness…

*****

“It’s been half an hour, she isn’t regaining consciousness. If we leave it any longer it could have a negative impact on the baby and the mother. We’re going to have to do an emergency c section.”

Arnav stood back, watching as the doctors and the nurses fussed around Khushi. His family were all waiting outside, praying that Khushi and the baby were going to be okay. Arnav felt tense, was this happening because of him? Had he stressed her out so badly that she went into labour early?

He felt so angry. Angry at himself for thinking so badly of her, never giving her a chance to explain the truth. And angry at the baby for sucking the life out of her.

He left the emergency room and sat down beside Anjali.

“What did the doctors say Chote? Is Khushi ji okay? Has she regained consciousness?”

Shaking his head, he rested his head on his sisters shoulder, tears starting to fall.

“What if she isn’t okay Di? What if… The doctor said there had been complications throughout her pregnancy and said that they were anticipating the birth to be complicated too but… What if I lose her Di? What if I lose her before I ever even got to tell her just how much I actually love her?”

“Sh Chote, she’s going to be fine. Don’t worry, soon you will have your wife and your baby. I promise Chote, everything will be fine.”

*****

An emergency c section was done and baby Raizada was born. Anjali had been in the delivery room at the time, Arnav couldn’t bring himself to be in there. Khushi had remained unconscious throughout the procedure.

“Chote, come and meet your little boy!”

Anjali had helped the doctors to clean the baby and wrap him up in clean clothes. Khushi was still under observation, doctors watching over her the whole time.

Walking into the room, Arnav looked around at his family, they were all so excited, so happy that the little boy had arrived. No one seemed to be worried about Khushi, and this angered him. Didn’t they realise that Khushi’s life was in danger? Didn’t they realise that the little boy in Anjali’s arms was part of the reason why Khushi was like this now. He walked into the room, and walked over to Khushi, taking her hand. Her body was cold and still.

“Why hasn’t she woken up yet doctor?”

“We’re not sure yet. Mr Raizada, when she started experiencing pains, was she under any kind of serious stress that could have triggered the responses she had?”

Arnav remained silent, his mind going back to the argument that they had. How could he tell the doctors the truth?

“We’re afraid she may have fallen into a coma.”

“What?”

Any colour that had remained in Arnav’s face, drained and he fell to the ground beside Khushi. Anjali, still holding onto the baby, also stood there, unmoving, shocked at what the doctor was saying.

“We will try our best to see what we can do, but for now we have to move her somewhere else so we can keep her under better observation. You may stay with the baby here until he is ready to be discharged.”

Arnav remained on the floor as he watched the doctors and nurses cart Khushi away to another room. Anjali sat down beside him, still holding the little boy.

“Stay strong Chote, everything is going to be okay, Khushi ji is going to be fine.”

Arnav shook his head, his tears falling thick and fast.

“This is all his fault.”

He pointed at the sleeping new born in Anjali’s arms, refusing to look at him.

“He did this to her, he’s destroyed her.”

“Chote, don’t speak like that. He’s your son.”

“I want nothing to do with him.”

Getting to his feet, Arnav went after the doctors who were taking his Khushi away.

*****

A week had passed since baby Raizada had come into the world and Khushi still remained in her coma. The doctors were feeling positive, they believe that she would come round very soon. Arnav hadn’t left Khushi’s side at all, he’d remained with her all the time.

Someone from the Raizada house also stayed. After talking amongst themselves, they had decided that they didn’t want to take the baby home. They wanted him to be in the hospital so that Khushi would be able to see him as soon as she woke up. Arnav still hadn’t set his eyes on his little boy and so it became necessary that someone stayed so that they could tend to the baby.

It was the ninth night after the baby was born and Arnav lay beside Khushi, stroking her body, willing her to wake up. Head rested in her crook of her neck and his hand locked in hers, he felt her fingers twitch ever so slightly. Arnav pulled back, and he felt it again.

“Di! Di! I think she’s waking up!”

Her movements were slow and small but they were there. Her fingers kept flexing for a while and Arnav called the doctor. Then her saw her hand move a little and then a little more until she had is rested on her tummy.

“Baby…”

Her voice was quiet and hoarse and her eyes flickered. Her hand carried on moving over her belly.

“My baby…”

Her eyes now opening, Arnav could see the panic in her eyes.

“Hey, I’m here, Khushi, it’s me, Arnav. I’m here.”

“Arnav ji… Baby…”

Tears filled her eyes, panic evident in them. The doctor came into the room and did what they needed to do to stabilise her.

Anjali brought the little boy over and sat beside Khushi.

“Khushi ji, look, don’t cry, here is your baby.”

Anjali held the little boy out to Khushi and she took hold of him, holding him close to her chest. Tears rolled down her face as she looked at her little boy.

“Arnav ji, have you seen him, he’s so beautiful.”

Sitting back down beside he, he took a look at their baby, the first time he was actually looking at him properly.

Anjali watched as the new parents peered down at their baby, and decided to leave them to it, give them some time alone.

“He looks exactly like you.”

Arnav watched as the little boy’s eyes flickered open and as he stared at him with his little eyes.

“His eyes, they look exactly like yours. His hair, his lips. He looks exactly like you, he looks nothing like me.”

He continued to stare at the baby who stared back. Khushi was right, he did look exactly like him. One would be able to tell that Arnav was the father in a matter of moments, but it would take them longer to work out that Khushi was the mother. There was no doubt that this baby was his.

Pressing a kiss onto her baby’s forehead, Khushi held him close.

“Our baby. Little Aarav… He’s so beautiful.”

“Aarav?”

“I want to call him Aarav. What do you think?”

“I like it…”

Passing the baby over to Arnav, Arnav took his son into his arms for the first time. He couldn’t help but feeling a warmth pass over his body. This was his baby. He’d helped to make him.

“Khushi… I’m so sorry. All of this… Its my fault.”

“Sh. The past is the past. This is a new start for us. We have our baby now. Please let’s just start again.”

Moving closer to Khushi, he took one of her hands and placed it on their baby and he pressed a kiss on her lips. This was a new start, and he was going to do things right for once.

“I love you Khushi and I love you Aarav. I promise… You both are my life now. I’ll never do anything to hurt either of you.”

“We love you too Arnav ji…”

Pressing her face into his chest, Khushi felt a sense of calm take over her body. This was a new start and she couldn’t wait to get started with her baby and her husband. Under her hand, she could feel her baby’s heartbeat, and against her cheek she could feel her husband’s. The two people who meant the most to her, the two people whose dil ki dhadkan meant more to her than her own. They were the reason behind her heartbeat.

Forever and always.

Pardesi Pyaar ~ Part 11

IMG_0725

“I can’t believe you’re leaving, I’m going to miss you so much.”

“I’m going to miss you too. But Katie, don’t miss me too much. You’re coming to India soon and when me and Arnav get married, you have to be there! No matter what happens.”

“I’ll be there Khushi. I promise, I wouldn’t miss your wedding for the world.”

Hugging Katie, Khushi finally let the tears she’d been holding back flow. She couldn’t believe that she was leaving and that she was going back to India. And not just going back, but going back with Arnav, to his home, where his family all were

“Are you feeling nervous?”

“Very nervous. Katie, I don’t know how I’m going to deal with this.”

“Don’t worry Khushi, as soon as wedding talk starts happening, you call me and me, Karl and my parents will be there. Do you think we’re going to let you get married without having a girls side for all the ceremonies. Plus I’ve never been to an Indian wedding so none of us would miss anything for the world.”

Katie’s parents came out of the kitchen and her mother handed her a large bag.

“Food for the road. Take care dear, it’s been a pleasure having you here.”

“Thank you for having me aunty. It means so much.”

Hugging Katie’s mum, Khushi couldn’t really believe her luck. She’d come to South Africa to get an education and in return, she had found herself a family. She may not have been the luckiest person in terms of having her own family, but in turn, god gave her Katie and her lovely family.

Katie’s father came forward next.

“Like your aunty said, it really has been lovely having you around. You really have become our second daughter. I know you’ve only been living with us for a short time, but since you first came to Durban, it’s been nice to see you whenever you came with Katie. You really have become a part of our family.”

The tears which Khushi had been trying to suppress came tumbling out. She really was blessed. Taking hold of Khushi’s hand, Katie’s father handed her a small pile of money. Khushi looked at it, her eyes wide.

“Uncle…”

“Don’t say no dear. It’s not a lot and I know you have your own money, but consider this a gift from us, to congratulate you on your marriage.”

“It’s still a lot…”

“If your father handed you this money, you wouldn’t say no, so consider me your father and don’t say no.”

Closing her hand around the money, Khushi hugged Katie’s father.

“Thank you so much.”

Breaking the hug, Khushi looked at Katie’s family.

“Thank you so much. For everything, I can’t even begin to tell you how much you all mean to me.” You have done so much for me, I will never stop being grateful and I will never forget. Please, please come to my wedding, you are the only family I have, and it won’t feel right to get married without you all there.”

Katie came forward again and hugged Khushi tight. She was crying too now, she never thought she’d have to let go of Khushi so soon, but she knew that this day was going to come one day.

Wiping away Katie’s tears she looked at her friend.

“Please don’t cry. We’re going to be back together very soon and I’ll talk to you all the time any way.”

“I know, but I’ve got so used to living with you, I’m going to miss you so much when you’re not here any more.”

“I’m going to miss you too.”

They held each other and cried. Khushi had many friends when she was at uni but she had never made a friend like Katie who became like a sister. Katie too had never made friends with anyone whom she loved as much as she loved Khushi. They continued hugging and then the doorbell went off. Katie broke the hug and went running to the door.

Throwing the door open, there stood Arnav and his father, ready to take Khushi.

“Hi Arnav! Mr Raizada, please come in.”

Walking in, Katie gestured for them to take a seat as Katie’s mother went to get some refreshments for the Raizada.

*****

After the Raizada’s had spent a little bit of time with Katie and her family, they realised that it was time to leave, otherwise they wouldn’t be able to catch their flight. Khushi felt her heart breaking. She didn’t want to leave, but she wanted to go with Arnav. It was so hard, she hated what she was feeling.

Embracing Katie’s family again, it was time for Khushi to leave. Tears were shed all round. Ajay Singh Raizada extended a further invitation to Katie’s family so that they could all come to the wedding.

Katie helped Khushi to bring her bags out. Arnav grabbed hold of Khushi’s bags as he began to leave with them while Khushi said her final goodbye.

“This isn’t goodbye. You guys are definitely going to have to come to my wedding. If you don’t, relation over, I’ll never speak to you guys again. And I won’t get married!”

Laughing, Katie’s father placed his hand on Khushi’s shoulder and reassured her that they wouldn’t miss her wedding for the world.

Finally ready to leave, Khushi picked up her hand luggage and made her way over to the door and exited the house. She reached Arnav’s car and then turned, blew Katie a final kiss and then got into the car, ready to go to the airport and start a new chapter of her life.

Struggling with Fifty Shades

Hi guys. This is a message that I’ve been avoiding sending out, but I feel like I need to let you guys know now. So with a very heavy heart I must tell you all, that I have come to the decision of wrapping up Fifty Shades of Raizada.

Revently, I have really been struggling with the writing of Fifty Shades. Currently there are only 9 chapters up, and in terms on where the story is at that point, I wasn’t struggling with the writing. However, I have just finished writing part 16 and it’s by far one of my worst pieces of writing and I’m really not happy with it. Of course I will come back to it nearer the time of when it is meant to be posted, however I don’t really see how I am going to do so.

The issue at the moment is that the point in the story I am now at, it’s not exciting me any more. I have always said from the beginning I didn’t want to write super raunchy scenes like they have in the original, mainly because I can’t write like that and secondly because I don’t feel comfortable writing that. I wanted to portray the dominant-submissive relationship, but personally, I don’t know enough about it to write about it properly. In addition to that, I feel like now actually writing the story, the phase of the story I am at is just sex. And although I write mature content like that, excessive doses of it isn’t what I like and I don’t want to write that.

I feel like even trying to explain what the issue is is difficult. But I think the bottom line of what I want to say is that I am going to fast track the story, jump ahead and I’m going to try and start wrapping up the story. This project has become a task for me and writing for me isn’t meant to be a task, it’s meant to be a hobby.

I feel bad about this decision that I have come to because I know that there are a lot of people who like Fifty Shades the most out of all my stories, but I really am not enjoying working on this project. I’m very sorry if there is anyone who is going to be saddened by this news.

So I apologise to everyone that this story isn’t going to have a long run like I thought it was going to, but I hope you stay with me on the journey while we come to a close.

Don’t worry, I will do my very best to wrap this story up as neatly as possible because at the end of the day it is still my project and I want to do it (and those who like it justice).

Again, very sorry that we will soon be coming to the end of this story, but I hope everyone can understand why I have had to come to this decision.

Jalebi ~ Part 10

“I can’t believe my Akash is getting married!”

“Mamiji why are you finding it so hard to believe, we all knew Akash would get married one day, it’s Chote that is the problem.”

“Di! I’m right here!”

“I know you are! That’s why I’m saying it! Come on Chote, you need to start thinking about settling down too. Akash is younger than you and he’s already ready to get married.”

“He’s only a little bit younger than me Di. It’s no big deal that he’s getting married before me.”

“I know, but you haven’t even shown any interest in getting married yet.”

“I just haven’t met the right person yet.”

“And when do you think you will find a woman suitable for the great Arnav Singh Raizada?”

Arnav looked up from his laptop at this point and stopped. His mind instantly went to Khushi and he couldn’t help but smile.

“Oh my god! Chote! I see that smile! There’s someone on your radar isn’t there?!”

Arnav shook his head and shut his laptop.

“Di! When the time comes and when I find someone, you will be the first to know, I promise.”

With that, Arnav got to his feet and left the room.

Anjali turned to Mamiji and smiled.

“He so has someone on his radar.”

*****

Khushi was busy putting a few clothes into her little suitcase when Payal came running into the room.

“Guess what!”

“What?”

“The Raizada’s have picked a date for the engagement!”

“They have? When is it?”

“Exactly a month from now!”

“No way?”

“Babuji said that they said they didn’t see why they should wait for the engagement when I’m already wearing a ring in Akash’s name!”

“Jiji, I’m so excited for you!”

“I can’t believe this is happening!”

“Have they said when the wedding is going to be?”

“No they haven’t, but Babuji said that he doesn’t think that it will be too long after the engagement, but they will finalise dates on the day of the engagement!”

Khushi hugged her sister and she felt as though her heart was going to explode with happiness. Payal had loved Akash since she knew was love was, and now they were going to get married! Khushi had always liked Akash. In high school he had always backed her up when everyone else would tease her, and as an adult, he opened up a whole new world for her, a world where her work would be far more appreciated than ever before. And she also had to he grateful to him because if it wasn’t for him, then she probably wouldn’t have Arnav in her life now. Things between her and Arnav were weird and they were maintaining a professional relationship, but Khushi knew that her feelings for Arnav were constantly brewing and he knew it was the same for him too.

“Khushi, I was going to ask, how long are you going to London for?”

“Maybe a week. I doubt I’ll need to stay longer than that.”

“That’s such a long time!”

“It’s only a week, that’s not long at all!”

“I know, but it’s so close to the engagement, I need you here!”

“I know you do, but I promise, 1 week, I won’t go a day over a week. I need to go to this conference and then I need to make sure that I have got everything in order. And I want to stay with mama and papa a few days, I’ve really missed them since I’ve been here. I haven’t seen them much at all since I’ve started this deal with Arnav.”

“Khushi you need to bring Maasi and Mausaji back with you!”

“I will definitely tell them! But I don’t know if they will come back, they haven’t been back here in years and years and I don’t think they will want to come back.”

“I know all that, but please, it’s my wedding and I want all my family here with me.”

Hugging Payal again, Khushi promised that she would try her best to convince her parents to come to India with her.

Khushi’s parents had moved to England a long time ago. They had moved to England when Khushi was only 8. Initially they had taken Khushi with them, but for some reason, even after a year Khushi just wasn’t settling in and she wasn’t doing well at school. So after talking to Payal’s parents, they had decided that it would be best for Khushi to go back to India and stay there with Payal and her parents until Khushi was old enough to make her own decisions and go back to England. Shashi and Garima loved Khushi, but they weren’t keen on the idea of a daughter being so far away from her parents like this. Regardless of their reservations towards the situation, they took care of Khushi as there own, and sure enough, when Khushi was ready she did go back. But Khushi had always known that India was her home and this is where she wanted to be. So she was more than ready to kick her life into gear and get settled back down here.

*****

“Arnav, I’m leaving for London tomorrow.”

“Tomorrow?”

“Yes, I’ll have a day in between before the conference when I’ll be able to look over all my notes and stuff, I want to prepare over there so I know I know all my points thoroughly.”

“Khushi, I was wondering, can I come with you?”

“Do you want to?”

“Yeah, I do.”

“I don’t see why not, but I’m not sure if you’ll be able to come to the conference.”

“I was invited to the conference, so yeah I will be able to come.”

“That’s alright then! So I’ll see you tomorrow?”

“Yes you will.”

“Have you got a ticket for the flight?”

“No, I’m going to go by my jet. You should come with me.”

“But I already have a ticket with the airlines.”

“I’ll sort that for you but will you come with me on my jet?”

“I mean… Yes! Of course!”

“Great! What time was you’re flight meant to be tomorrow?”

“It was meant to be at 4pm and I have a short layover in Dubai.”

“Okay, we’ll leave at 12pm so we can have a little bit more time in Dubai.”

“Are you sure that’s okay?”

“Are you okay to leave 4 hours earlier than planned?”

“I have no issue at all.”

“Then let’s do it!”

“I’ll come and pick you up tomorrow at 11:30am.”

“Okay, bye, I’ll see you tomorrow.”

Khushi hung up and couldn’t help but fall into deep thought. What had she just done?

*****

Arnav and Khushi boarded onto Arnav’s private jet and Khushi couldn’t help but gasp as she took it all in. She had expected it to be lavish and fancy, but his jet was nothing like what she had expected.

IMG_0175

The entire interior of the jet was black glass and white leather. There were large leather sofas on either side of the jet ans there were coffee tables by the sofas.

“This is insane!”

“I’m assuming you like it.”

“It’s amazing! But are the seats safe?”

“Don’t worry about the seats. During take off and landing we have special seats nearer the front of the jet. We go there and strap ourselves in. Once we’ve taken off, we can come back into the main area.”

Khushi nodded, still slightly taken aback by everything around her.
Arnav took her hand and led her to another part of the jet.

IMG_0174

Khushi looked around her, utterly mind blown. They were in a bedroom! Along both sides there were sofas and in the middle of the room was a bed. There were also 2 desks, one which had a built in computer and one white was just an empty normal desk.

“I know what you’re thinking, and down worry. The desks are both stuck firmly down to the ground, they won’t go anywhere no matter how the jet moves.”

“Arnav… This is incredible!”

“I’m glad you like it. It took me ages to design this aircraft so that it was just right for me.”

Before they could talk any more, the captain announced that all was ready and set and that they were ready to take off.

Arnav led Khushi back to the seats where they have to sit during take off and landing and they got strapped in. Once they were ready, the jet started moving and moments later, they were in the air. Khushi looked out of the little window and saw them fly above Delhi. She’d always loved flying and she loved the life she had, she was flying all the time. She hadn’t been to see too many places on earth, but she knew that she wanted to visit America one time and she also wanted to go to Australia.

“You can take your belt off.”

Khushi nodded and unbuckled herself as she followed Arnav into the main area of the jet. He took a seat on one of the large sofas and stretched out his arms and legs. Arnav called for a member of the cabin crew.

“How may I help you sir?”

“Can I have my laptop bag please?”

The stewardess nodded and went off to get Arnav’s bag.
Khushi took in her surroundings, still not quite able to believe that she was in a private jet.

“I know what you’re thinking, how can I have a jet. The truth is, this jet cost more than I could actually afford. I put so much money into this, I don’t have much extra left over. But this is something I really wanted. So I decided, I wasn’t going to save up for it and get it at a time when I could buy it and have a lot of money left over. I just bought it.”

Khushi nodded.

“The sensible part of me thinks that you’re crazy. But I can see why you’d want this and honestly, I think you deserve it.”

“Thank you.”

The stewardess returned with Arnav’s laptop bag and handed it to him.

“Sir, whenever you would like to eat, please let us know what you would like and we will see if we are able to prepare that for you.”

“Thank you. But I don’t think we’ll have a meal on this leg of the journey. We may just have tea and coffee at some point.”

The stewardess nodded and left.

“Khushi, if you want to have something, just call the stewards and let them know. If you want a meal that’s fine. But if you don’t, I know a place at the Dubai airport that has the best food.”

Khushi nodded. She felt like that’s all she could do. This whole experience was slightly overwhelming.

“Are you okay?”

“I’m fine, it’s just… All this…”

“It takes a bit of getting used to, I’ll admit that.”

Khushi started flicking through the channels on the tv, she needed to put her attention to something. This situation, as much as it was enjoyable was also slightly awkward. She didn’t know what to talk to Arnav about and Arnav too wasn’t making much conversation.
Khushi found and film and decided to watch it, while Arnav tapped away on his laptop.

*****

The flight to Dubai didn’t take long, 3 and a half hours only. They left the jet and made their way over to a restaurant to get some food.

“Ah, its this one! My absolute favourite. They serve the best Italian food. Their food here is ever better than what you can get in Italy.”

Khushi ordered a pizza and Arnav ordered some spaghetti. They both tucked into their food.

“Wow this really is amazing!”

“I told you! Their food is the best. I always have a layover in Dubai just so I can eat here.”

“Have you been to Italy.”

“Yeah, I have. Maybe I can take you there one day?”

“Maybe you can.”

Arnav placed his hand on Khushi’s and gave it a squeeze. It was almost like he was sealing the deal that they would go to Italy one day. However, before Khushi could read too much into it, he removed his hand and carried on trying to finish his meal.

When they finally finished their food, the bill was paid and they left the restaurant. They walked around the airport, taking in all of the large shops that were there and smelling the food that was served by all the different food places. At one end of the airport was a large water fountain with a whole lot of greenery around it. It looked so beautiful and Khushi couldn’t help but feel super peaceful.

“I really love this airport. It’s one of my favourites in the whole world.”

“I can see why you like it so much.”

“Haven’t you ever stopped here before?”

“I have, but I never really get the chance to explore and look around. I usually book flights where I have the shortest transits.”

“Khushi you’re really missing out. I wish we had more time, I would’ve taken you out and shown you around Dubai. The city itself is so stunning.”

“Maybe we can stop here for longer on our way back and you can show me around.”

“I’d like that.”

Arnav took Khushi’s hand into his and he had the sudden urge to kiss her. He wanted to kiss her, right here. Right now. In the airport of one of the most beautiful cities in the world.

Arnav moved in, his eyes fluttering shut. Khushi didn’t really know what was happening, but realised that she too was being drawn into the moment. Arnav’s hand slipped to Khushi’s wrist as he continued to inch closer and closer to her lips…

Pardesi Pyaar ~ Part 10

IMG_0725

Rushing around, Khushi was making sure that she looked presentable and that her bag was ready with all her things in. Katie was sat on the sofa, watching Khushi run around.

“Calm down will you.”

“I can’t calm down. Arnav will be here any moment.”

“Khushi! Breathe!”

Before Khushi could respond to Katie, there was a knock on the door.

“He’s here! Oh my god oh my god, what am I going to do now?”

“Open the door for starters.”

Throwing her friend a glare, Khushi went to open to door. Pulling the door back, she saw Arnav, dressed in a casual sweat shirt and jeans. He leaned in and placed a quick kiss on Khushi’s lips, before coming into the house.

“Ready to go?”

“I’m so nervous, I don’t know if I can do this.”

Taking her hands in his, Arnav tried to calm Khushi’s nerves.

“You have nothing to worry about, I’m sure my dad is going to love you.”

“But what if he doesn’t?”

“He will Khushi, I know he will. He won’t be able to find any fault with you at all.”

“Are you sure?”

Pressing another kiss on her lips, he wrapped his arm around her waist.

“I’m positive.”

“Is my outfit okay?”

Arnav looked down at Khushi, taking in her attire. She had picked out a relatively plain pink anarkali suit. It highlighted her figure, clinging to her curves just right.

“You look perfect. Shall we go?”

Nodding, Khushi said bye to Katie and her parents and then left.

*****

On their way to Arnav’s house, Khushi knotted her hands in her lap. Arnav placed his hand over Khushi’s.

“Don’t be nervous.”

“What if your dad doesn’t like me?”

“He will do.”

Arnav carried on driving until they reached the block of apartments where he and his father were living. Arnav parked up and helped Khushi out of the car.

“It’ll be fine Khushi, don’t worry,”

Putting his hand in hers, he led her over to the door and they entered and made their way to the Raizada apartment. Once they arrived at the door, Arnav unlocked it and walked in.

“Dad, we’re here.”

Exiting the kitchen, Ajay Singh Raizada walked towards Khushi and his son. As soon as Khushi saw him, she put her hands together and greeted him.

“Namaste Mr Raizada.”

“Please, just call me uncleji.”

Ushering Khushi to sit down, Khushi took a seat and Ajay sat down opposite her. Arnav took his seat next to Khushi.

“Don’t sit down, go and get this lovely young lady something to drink.”

Nodding Arnav got up, ignoring Khushi’s protest for him not too. Ajay watched his son go towards the kitchen and leaned forward in his chair.

“So Khushi, please tell me a little about yourself.”

“Well my name is Khushi Kumari Gupta, I’m 23 years old and I’m originally from Lucknow.”

“You’re still only 23? And you’ve already completely your masters.”

“Jee haan. I would’ve completed it last year, but I took a year out to travel.”

“That’s impressive Khushi. Very impressive, you have achieved a lot at such a young age.”

Blushing, Khushi looked away.

“Arnav told me you don’t have any family, I’m sorry to hear that.”

“It’s okay, no one can change things how they are.”

“So in India, how do you live?”

“I have been working for as long as I can remember. I don’t spend a lot of money on myself, so I can put a lot of the money towards somewhere small to live and for basic necessities.”

At this point, Arnav came back into the room with tea for all three of them. Handing his father his tea, he sat back down next to Khushi.

“When do you plan to go back to India?”

“I’m not sure yet. I was planning to go back almost as soon as graduation had happened, but then my friend asked me to stay with her and now her family want me to stay with them indefinitely. They have been very accommodating, however, I know I need to go back to India soon.”

Nodding, Ajay stroked his beard. So far he was impressed with Khushi. She had achieved a lot for herself and she was a beautiful girl. He could see why Arnav was so taken by her.

“Dad, I want to be with Khushi and I think she wants to be with me too. Please bless us.”

Turning back to Khushi, Ajay asked the question he’d been waiting to ask.

“Do you want to be with my son too?”

Looking between Arnav and his father, Khushi blushed before looking down and nodding.

“I have nothing against Khushi. From what I have seen and heard, you seem to be the kind of girl that would be ideal for our family. You have my blessings children.”

Arnav got to his feet and went over to his father and touched his feet. Ajay blessed his son, just as Khushi was also getting up and coming forward to touch his feet. Ajay stopped her.

“From now, you are my daughter, and daughters do not need to touch their fathers feet.”

Tears of joy filled Khushi’s eyes as Ajay Singh Raizada got to his feet and hugged his soon to be daughter in law.

“Acha, you two sit and talk, let me go and call your mother and tell her the good news.”

Leaving Arnav and Khushi, Ajay went towards his bedroom.
Pulling Khushi into his arms, Arnav kissed the top of her head.

“I told you you had nothing to worry about. I told you you were the perfect woman for me.”

Wrapping his arms around her, Arnav took Khushi’s lips between his and kissed her passionately. Khushi felt uncomfortable at first, on account of the fact that Arnav’s father was so close by and could walk in on them at any moment, however soon she too got swept away with the kiss.

They pulled away moments later and heard Ajay coming back into the living room.

“I have spoken to your mother Arnav, and she has said that if you have chosen someone and if I approve, then she doesn’t see why she would have any reason to object.”

Arnav knew it, he knew his parents would’ve be able to find any fault with Khushi.

“She also wants us to wrap everything up here as soon as possible so that we can go back to India. With Khushi. I have told her that we will be able to leave by the end of the week.”

Eyes wide, Khushi took in what was being said. She would soon be leaving South Africa. She would soon be going back to India, with Arnav to meet the rest of his family. Khushi felt slightly light headed, was she really ready for all this?

Faraq Partha Hai

‪Fumbling with the ring, Khushi struggled to slip it onto her finger. Why wouldn’t the damn ring just go on. Tears rolled down Khushi’s eyes, she didn’t want this, and that stupid Laad Governor had made her hold her ears and apologise to him.‬

Arnav watched as Khushi struggled before taking her hand in his own and taking hold of her ring. He held out her hand, and began to slip the ring onto her ring finger when Khushi pulled her hand out of his grip. ‬

“Nehin. You can’t put this ring on me.”‬

“What the?”‬

“Yeh… This is my engagement ring, you can’t put it on me.”‬

Arnav’s eyes widened as her words hit him like a tonne of bricks. Her engagement ring? She was engaged? Engaged to marry someone else? No. No, not possible. The ring fell out from between his fingers while he stared at Khushi. Tears were rolling down her face. When had this happened? How had this happened? ‬

‪The ring rolled away and hit Anjali’s foot. Picking the ring up, Anjali walked over to Khushi as Arnav turned away.‬

“Khushi ji, you really should take care of this ring. Come here, I’ll put it on you.”‬

Arnav turned around and saw Khushi extend her hand out to Di. She slipped it onto Khushi’s ring finger on her left hand. ‬

“Looking at your reaction, it seems this ring is very important to you. Will you tell me what this ring is in aide of?”‬

“This is my engagement ring.”‬

Again her words hit Arnav’s heart. Her engagement ring… Anjali too looked shocked. ‬

“You’re engagement ring? When did you get engaged? You didn’t tell anyone? Congratulations Khushi ji!”‬

Anjali hugged Khushi and Arnav watched. Khushi looked at him over Di’s shoulder, and he saw the ring shining on her finger. Anjali broke the hug and rushed off to tell everyone else the good news. It was just Arnav and Khushi again. Khushi looked straight at him, and he looked back. ‬

“Khushi…”‬

Her phone rang and she answered it. It was buaji.‬

“Haan buaji, I found the ring.”‬

“Khushi!” ‬

He shouted out her name before marching over to her and disconnecting her call. ‬

“What are you doing, I was talking.”‬

“I was talking too!”‬

Looking into his eyes, she saw anger and confusion. ‬

“What are you saying, I don’t understand.”‬

“What are you doing?”‬

“What did I do?”‬

How did she not know? Did she really not have a clue? How could she not realise.

“You’ve got engaged! When? How? You didn’t think it was important to tell me!? Why? Why doesn’t anyone know about this?”‬

“Aapko kyun faraq partha hai?”‬

Grabbing Khushi by the upper arms, Arnav held her close to himself.

“Kyun faraq partha hai? Faraq partha hai dammit kyunki‬… because I love you dammit!”

Eyes wide, Khushi looked into his eyes. What did he say? Did he just say what she thought he said… Those four words, ‘I love you dammit,’ ringing in her ears.

“Kya kaha aap ne?”

“I love you Khushi.”

Letting go of her, Khushi stood in her spot, not moving. She couldn’t move. His words had paralysed her. His words had paralysed himself even. He loved her. That’s what he’d said. Is that what he had been feeling? All those times when he wanted her close, all this anger he felt about the thought of her marrying someone else. Was it all because he loved her? Khushi’s mind whirled as she thought of the times when she thought maybe, maybe he felt something for her. Does this mean her feelings were correct?

“What are you saying? I don’t understand anything. Why are you saying this to me? Why now? And how? How can you love me? You hate me!”

The use of the word hate struck him like a slap across the face. But why should it. Ever since he had met her, all he had done was belittle her, and remind her of her status. Even when he got close to her, he pushed her away, acted like it didn’t mean a thing.
Taking a step towards her, Khushi took a step away from him.

“I don’t hate you, as much as I’ve tried to, I can’t.”

“Please. Please stop this.”

Moving further away from him, Khushi tried to put as much distance between them as she could. He was playing with her emotions. Just as he had done on Diwali.

“Khushi please, believe me.”

“How can I! All you have ever done is made me feel bad about myself. Now all of a sudden you love me?”

“I’ve known it for a while, but I tried to push it away. What happened between us on Diwali, I lied to you Khushi, it did mean something to me. That almost kiss has been haunting me, all day, every day since it happened. I haven’t stopped thinking about you..”

“Why are you saying all this now? Now when we are both engaged to other people. Why are you doing this?”

“I can’t lose you dammit.”

“But what about Lavanya ji and my fiancé?”

“It’s better we hurt them now. Otherwise, if we go ahead with our respective marriages, we’ll end up ruining 4 lives.”

Shaking her head, Khushi looked away. This was all too much, far too overwhelming for her. Arnav took Khushi’s hand.

“Just tell me one thing, do you love me too?”

Lifting her eyes, Khushi looked at Arnav. Memories with Arnav filled her mind. Their almost kiss, him putting her Payal on, when he wrapped her ring finger with a bandage, the way he had put his hand on her head in the hospital, all the times she had felt her heart beat erratically when she was near him… Khushi nodded. She did love him too.

Arnav’s eyes lit up, he knew it, he knew she loved him and here was his proof. He gathered Khushi into his arms and hugged her. Hugged her the way he had wanted to that day in the hospital but was unable too. He placed his hands on her back as she slowly wrapped her arms around his waist. Nothing else matter, nothing else could get in their way, they knew what they wanted.

Breaking the hug, Arnav took Khushi’s hand. He slipped the engagement ring off her finger and put it down to the side. Khushi tried to protest, but her efforts were futile. He wasn’t going to listen. Walking over to his wardrobe, Arnav opened it and then unlocked the locker within. Unlocking it, he took out a box and came back over to Khushi. Handing the box to Khushi, he opened it and took out the treasure within. Khushi recognised what it was as soon as she saw them. Arnav and Anjali’s mama ka kangan.

“Arnav ji yeh…”

He took the box out of her hands and put it aside as he took her hands in his own.

“I don’t have a ring to give you right now, but I have these. Ma wanted to put these on my wife herself, but she isn’t here so I’ll have to do it.”

Tears gathered in Khushi’s eyes once more as Arnav began slipping the kangans onto her wrists. Once they were on, Arnav placed his hands over the kangans.

“Congratulations Khushi, we are now engaged.”

“But what about…”

“We will deal with all that afterwards, right now, this is about us and our engagement. We should celebrate.”

Dropping his hands down to her waist, Arnav pulled Khushi into himself. He thought of all the times she was close to him and he had pushed her away. Now, finally, he had her in his arms and he wasn’t about to let her go any time soon. Khushi gasped and her eyes fluttered shut as her hands rested on his chest. Arnav too shut his eyes as he moved closer to her. He’d wanted to do his since Diwali, the thought of her this close haunted him, but now, now he had her this close again and he didn’t intend to let her go this time.

Lips parted, Arnav pressed his top lip between both of Khushi’s and he sucked on her bottom lip. Her arms tightened around him, as did his.
They broke their kiss, and Khushi hid her face in Arnav’s chest.

“What happened Khushi, I thought my presence thume koi faraq nehi partha.”

“Arnav Singh Raizada, you know hame faraq partha hai.”

The stood their, locked in each other’s embrace, basking in the warmth of each other. They were finally coming together. Yes it meant hurting some people along the way, but for true love, this slight consequence is one they would have to face and one which they were willing to face. How could they not now that they knew why it mattered to them? They finally found out, kyun faraq partha hai.

Pardesi Pyaar ~ Part 9

IMG_0725

Two months had passed and Arnav and Khushi had seen a fair amount of each other in this time. They went to the movies, they went to restaurants, they went to the park to have picnics. Khushi was meant to have gone back to India, but she decided to stay here longer. Neither of them knew what would happen to their relationship when one of them left, and for that reason, they wanted to stay where they were, as they were for the time being.

They were taking their time to get to know each other, moving slowly in their relationship, not rushing into anything that they weren’t ready for.

*****

Arnav and Khushi were enjoying a quiet picnic in the park. Arnav had his head in Khushi’s lap and was looking up at her as she stroked his hair.

“Khushi, have you thought about going back again?”

“No. I mean I know I need to go back and start getting my life together but…”

“But you don’t want to leave because you don’t know what it will mean for us.”

Arnav pushed himself up and sat down, taking Khushi’s hand into his.

“There’s something I’ve been thinking about, not just because I don’t want to part with you in the short term but because I think I want to be with you for the long term.”

She was confused, what was he trying to say?”

“I’m confused Arnav.”

Arnav took a deep breath, his hold on Khushi’s hands tightened.

“I want to tell my dad about us?”

“What?”

Sitting up straight, Khushi looked at Arnav in disbelief. He wanted to tell his dad about their relationship? What was he even going to say.

“Khushi, I’m serious about you. I can imagine living with you forever and I think you’d really mix well with my family.”

“I’m still really confused Arnav.”

“I want to tell my dad that I intend on marrying you.”

“I don’t know what to say right now.”

“Well, do you see us together, do you think we’d be able to make a marriage work?

“I honestly haven’t really thought about it. I really like you and I want things to work out between us but marriage…”

Arnav had thought Khushi would have jumped at the suggestion, that she would be all for it. He hadn’t in his wildest dreams expected her to be unsure about their future and where they were going.

“Dad’s work here is nearly done so we’ll probably be leaving before the end of the month.”

“Okay, let’s do it.”

“You mean…”

“Let’s tell your dad about us.”

“But Khushi if you aren’t sure…”

“If I wasn’t sure about you, I wouldn’t have spent the last 2 months with you. I may not have thought about marriage yet, but I always knew I wanted a future with you, so yes. Let’s tell your dad! I’m all for it!”

“Seriously?”

“YES!”

Arnav threw his arms around Khushi and she held onto him. She knew in her heart that she was making the right decision and that’s all that mattered to her. She knew what she wanted and that was Arnav.

They decided that they would go to meet the great Ajay Singh Raizada tomorrow at lunch time.

“I’ll come and pick you up, but before that I’ll tell my dad about you. If I find he isn’t cool with the idea, then maybe I’ll cancel until a time when he’s warmed to the idea. But I think he’s going to be fine.”

They went back to their picnic, enjoying the food and the weather, the hope of tomorrow in their hearts.

*****

“Dad I need to talk to you about something.”

“Kya hua beta? What’s up?”

“Er… Well…”

“Arnav, you’re stuttering like a girl. What’s the matter?”

Ajay Singh Raizada was working away at his laptop, he didn’t even look up as Arnav entered the study and started speaking to him. Arnav sat down in the chair opposite his dad and rubbed his hands together. No matter how old he got, he always felt like a kid when trying to tell his dad something important like this.

“I… I’vemetsomeone.”

“What? Say that again. Slowly this time.”

“I’ve… I’ve met someone dad.”

“What do you mean?”

He took a deep breath, it was now or never.

“There’s a girl, I’m in love with her.”

“That’s great! I told you coming to South Africa with me was a good idea.”

“Dad… I’m in love.”

“I heard you and I said that it was great. Enjoy your time with her while you’re still here.”

“No dad, I don’t think you understand. I really love her, I want to be with her. Hamesh hamesh ke liye.”

Taking his glasses off, Ajay looked at his son for the first time since the conversation had started.

“Arnav, now I don’t know what the easiest way is to say this, but I hope you understand that you’re relationship won’t be accept by anyone in the family. I am saying you can have some fun, but don’t get hung up with all this forever nonsense.”

“But dad, I really love her and I want to marry her at some point.”

“No one will accept you marrying a South African girl Chote. You know your mother and your Nani expect you to marry a traditional Indian girl.”

“That’s the thing dad, she isn’t South African, she is Indian! She’s only been here for the last year for her studies.”

“Why didn’t you say that earlier! There shouldn’t be any issue with that then. What’s her name?”

“Khushi. Khushi Kumari Gupta.”

“Gupta you say? Is she by any chance related to the businessman Raj Gupta from Delhi?”

“No I don’t think so…”

“What do you mean you don’t think so? Is she or is she not?”

“She’s an orphan and I don’t think she has any family at all.”

Rubbing his beard, Ajay thought for a moment. He knew his wife wouldn’t be impressed if he heard that their only son had fallen in love with a girl who had no family and in turn, had no status.

“I need to talk to your mother.”

“No dad, you don’t need to talk to mom. Meet Khushi first. Speak to her, get to know her. I’m sure if you met her you’d see how special she is. And once you see that, you’ll be able to speak to mom and convince her that Khushi is right for me. If you talk to ma now, she’ll probably try to shut the whole thing down now.”

“But if I meet Khushi and then tell your mother, she’ll get annoyed.”

“Please dad? Just meet her, and I’ll explain to mom that I forced you to meet Khushi before you had the opportunity to talk to her about it. Please papa.”

Arnav had never asked for much. Not as a child and not as an adult. If he wanted something, he went out of his way to make sure he did it for himself. For the first time in a very long time, he was asking his father for something. Ajay looked at his son. How could he say no?

“Okay, I’ll meet her. But I’m telling you now, if I don’t like her, we’re shutting this down straight away and no one ever finds out.”

“I promise, you’re going to love her dad! She’s perfect.”

He had no doubt that Khushi would be a good girl. Arnav had never shown much interest in women, so for someone to catch his attention in this manner, Ajay knew there would have to be something special about her.

“I’ll meet her. For you’re sake, I will meet her.”

Fifty Shades of Raizada ~ Part 9

The journey was much longer than what it should have been, due to the obvious distractions that they have encountered on the journey. But finally, Arnav and Khushi arrived at Arnav’s apartment. The doorman opened the door and allowed them into the penthouse apartment. Arnav placed Khushi’s suitcase down by the side of the door as she looked around. This apartment was much, much bigger than any other apartment she had ever seen before.

“So you stay here alone?”

“Well, I only come here on the weekends, and that’s only when I have company.”

“Oh I see. So this weekend, it’s just me and you here?”

“Yup, just me and you.”

Khushi smiled and looked around. As soon as they had walked in through the door, they were in a large living area. There was a large TV mounted on one wall, but the back wall of the apartment was all glass and looked out to the open land below them.

To her left was a large sweeping staircase and to the right was a large kitchen. Khushi took the beautiful place in, but really, there was no sight more beautiful than her Arnav. Would she be able to address him like that now? As her Arnav? Khushi turned and draped her arms around Arnav’s neck and moved in to kiss him, but he brushed her off. Khushi looked at him, ever so slightly confused.

“What wrong?”

“It’s nothing, it’s just… I need to show you everything before we carry on.”

“What do you mean?”

Arnav offered Khushi his hand and she took it. He led her up the being sweeping staircase. Was it going to happen right now? Was he going to make love to her already? Arnav felt Khushi’s hand tense in his grip, but he chose to ignore it. At the top of the stairs, they were met with a long corridor with closed doors on either side of them. He led her down the corridor to the room on the end. He took his hand out of hers and took out a little gold key from his back pocket. Was this his bedroom? Khushi felt nervous but excited all the same. She was nervous that this was going to happen between them, but excited because she really wanted to do it with him.

Arnav unlocked the door and let Khushi in first. Once inside, he switched the lights on and Khushi gasped. In front of her were all kinds of weird contraptions that she hadn’t seen before. Khushi walked around the room, too shocked to say anything. There was a glass case, filled with multiple different whips of different lengths and made with slightly different materials. There were multiple sizes of handcuffs and handcuffs that didn’t actually look like they were handcuffs. And then there was stuff which she didn’t even know existed. What the hell was going on?

“Arnav…”

She continued looking around, there were ropes, of all lengths and of all different materials.

“I think I’m done here.”

“Keep looking.”

“No, I’m done.”

Arnav nodded and ushered Khushi out of the room. Once they were both out into the corridor again, Arnav locked the room and put the key back in his pocket.

“What the hell was all that?”

“Props?”

“Props for what?”

“For when we fuck.”

Khushi’s eyes widened. Arnav took her hand once more and led her into a bedroom. Was this his bedroom now?

“So this is your room.”

“My room?”

“Of course, where else would you sleep?”

“Would you be sleeping in here too then?”

“No. No of course not.”

Arnav looked at Khushi as though she had asked the most absurd question ever.

“I sleep in my own room, downstairs.”

“But why have you brought me here if you aren’t going to sleep with me?”

“I thought you…”

“Thought I what? Wanted some weird kind of BDSM relationship with you?”

“I told you I didn’t do relationships.”

“I know! But I thought you were interested in me, I thought you wanted me.”

Tears pricked Khushi’s eyes and she flew down the stairs. This was all wrong, he was in love with her? He wanted to make love to her? They were going to start a relationship and one day they were going to get married.

“Khushi wait! Stop!”

Khushi stopped and stood in the middle of the living room.

“What’s wrong?”

“What the hell is this?”

“This is my life.”

“What kind of a life is that?”

“The only kind I know.”

“So what? Explain to me.”

“I don’t do the dating thing, I don’t have romantic relationships. I am a dominant and I want you to be my submissive.”

“I don’t even know what that means.”

“I can help you prepare to make your choice. I have a contract prepared, it’s fairly detailed, you would ready through it, see what you are okay with and what you aren’t okay with and then we’ll go from there.”

“What’s in this contract?”

“What you are willing to and what you aren’t willing to do sexually. It says what I would expect from you, what your obligations are…”

“You make it sound like a business deal.”

“It kind of is.”

“So what do I need to do?”

“Sign the contract Miss Gupta and I promise you, I’m all yours.”

“What if I don’t agree with the clauses of your contract?”

“Then we can negotiate and change some of them.”

“What if I want nothing to do with this?”

“Then you are free to leave.”

“But that would mean we have no relationship.”

“This is the only type of relationship I have…”

“Say I agree to signing your contract and agreeing to be your submissive, how am I supposed to know what I’m really signing up for?”

“Well is there anything that you saw in that room that you know you don’t want to try?”

“I wouldn’t know…”

“Well, when you’ve done things before with someone, is there anything you really liked, or anything you really didn’t like?”

“I wouldn’t know…”

“What do you mean?”

“I mean… I’ve never…”

“You’ve never had sex before?”

“No… I. No.”

Arnav’s eyes widened and he stroked her cheek.

“You’re a virgin?”

“Yes.”

“But men must throw themselves at you?”

“I’ve never met anyone who I’ve wanted to be with.”

“But I just showed you my room…”

“It’s okay, we can work around it and…”

“Oh god.”

Arnav took Khushi’s hand and led her to his bedroom.

“Where are we going?”

“My bedroom.”

“But you said…”

“I know, but I need to rectify this situation.”

“I’m a situation now?”

Arnav chuckled as he led Khushi to his room. He kicked the door behind them and walked Khushi over to the bed. He took hold of her hips and pressed his lips against hers, all the while pressing her hips against his groin. Khushi wrapped her arms around his neck and held him close to herself. Whatever that would go down between them after this could wait. Right now she was going to make love with a man she was in love with. Maybe her love would be enough to change his ways, but right now, she knew she wanted Arnav and if this was the only opportunity for her to make love with him, she was going to take it. No man had ever wanted her like this before and she wasn’t going to pass up this moment.

Arnav unzipped Khushi’s dress and pushed it off her shoulders. For the second time tonight, Arnav had Khushi’s breasts out again, and he wanted to devour them. The dress caught at her hips and Arnav pushed it off her, letting it pool around her feet.

His hands roamed her body, resting on her breasts. He lifted her off the floor and put her down onto the bed. He stepped away and stood over the bed and he rid himself of his clothes. He pushed his shirt off his shoulders. Khushi took in his broad shoulders and his strong chest. But what stood out to her, were the deep, dark scars that were scattered all over his chest. Khushi knew she should ask about them, but all thoughts were gone from where when she saw Arnav slowly taking his trousers off. As he slowly revealed his manliness to her once again. She couldn’t help but blush. He was so big and thick. Arnav came over Khushi, kissing his way up her legs. He let his lips connect with hers as his hands wandered south of her body and into her panties. He pushed to fingers inside her, just feeling her, letting her body get used to the idea. Khushi gasped at the bodily intrusion, but accommodated him in her body. Arnav pumped his fingers, by no means going slowly. He knew that this was all new to her and that he should go at a pace that would be more comfortable for her, but he’d never had vanilla sex and he didn’t know how to.

He continued to pump his finger in her, all the while rubbing her breasts and kissing her neck. Khushi felt so overwhelmed. So much was happening at the same time. She couldn’t imagine how it would feel if anything more was happening.
Khushi could feel a weird heat building in the base of her tummy and she let out a throaty moan.

“Arnavvvv…”

“Hmm?”

“What are you doing to me?”

“Nothing yet.”

Arnav pulled himself away from her slightly and pressed a kiss on her lips. He looked down at himself, he was so hard and so ready.

“Shall we do this?”

Khushi raised her arms up to him and he fell into her arms, all the while guiding his thick length into her. He should have done it more slowly but he didn’t. Khushi gasped at the sharp pain that seared through her and arched off the bed, grabbing hold of Arnav’s arms.

“Ow.”

Arnav removed her hands off of him and placed his hands on her hips, pinning her down into the bed. He held himself still momentarily but then carried on. Khushi hooked one leg onto his waist and he held both her hands in one of his over her head. The other wandered her body, while he kissed her neck and carried on pushing himself further and further into her.

Khushi pressed her head further and further into the pillow, drowning in the pain and the pleasure she was simultaneously experiencing. It burnt with every stroke, but at the same time, he knew what he was doing and he was hitting the right spot, making her feel oh so good. Khushi’s leg tightened around his waist as Arnav moved faster, slightly more aggressive even. She felt her insides tighten, and this scared her because she didn’t understand what was happening. Arnav sensed this and he moved faster, far more aggressively than he had before. He could tell he was close and he knew she was too. He didn’t want to slow down to prolong the moment, he wanted them to reach their high as soon as they could. For Arnav, this was just sex, he didn’t see it as love making and SO saw no reason to draw out the experience more than necessary.

With one last thrust, Arnav hit Khushi’s sweet spot one last time and she came undone in his arms.

Arnav slowly withdrew himself from Khushi and pulled the covers over her spent body. Khushi’s eyes fluttered open and she pulled Arnav close to herself. She pressed a gentle kiss on his hand and Arnav came down to press a kiss onto her lips.

“Are you okay?”

Khushi nodded as her eyes fluttered shut. She felt so overly tired, she couldn’t understand why she was so sleepy.

“Anything I can get to make you more comfortable?”

“No.”

Arnav nodded and moved to get off the bed but Khushi caught his hand.

“Where are you going?”

“I’m going to lie down.”

“But this is your bed.”

“But I can’t sleep with anyone.”

“Please.”

Arnav looked at Khushi. She looked so peaceful, so ready to just let sleep consume her. He nodded and settled down next to her. Khushi took his hand and held it close to her chest as she slowly drifted off to sleep. She was content, she felt complete…

Pardesi Pyaar ~ Part 8

IMG_0725.JPG

Parking up in front of a large hotel, Khushi and Katie looked up in awe.

“Surprise ladies, we’re having dinner here tonight.”

“Karl, this place is super expensive.”

“Why have money if you’re not going to spend it on the people that matter to you right. Now stop worrying and let’s go enjoy.”

Getting out of the car, Karl led Katie and Khushi in. At the door, he stated that he had a reservation at the restaurant. The waiter led them in and sat them down at their table.

“Karl, really…”

“Don’t even worry about it.”

Katie placed her hand in Karl’s and Khushi couldn’t help but smile. Karl and Katie may not be official and they may not have been together long, but there was no denying that they shared something special. It was evident in the way that they looked at each other. Khushi couldn’t help but wonder if her and Arnav had something like that. Shaking her head, she pushed thoughts of Arnav away.

After a while, a waiter arrived with menus and left them to decide what to eat. Karl was just recommending some dishes to the girls when a voice interrupted them.

“Karl? Khushi? Katie? What are you guys doing here?”

Karl laughed and got to his feet as he hugged Arnav. Khushi started at Katie in disbelief. This had to have been a plan. Leaning over to Katie she whispered angrily.

“You knew about this didn’t you?”

“I promise I didn’t.” Katie feigned innocence and to her joy, Khushi seemed to believe her. “Just relax.”

Karl invited Arnav to have some food with them. Arnav insisted that he had to go, but Karl remained adamant and Arnav gave in. Khushi still believed that this was all a ploy, but Arnav and Karl seemed to be genuine and Katie seemed to be unaware. Maybe it was just a coincidence.

Arnav turned to Khushi and smiled.

“Hey.”

“Hi.”

“You haven’t been returning any of my calls.”

“I’m sorry, I’ve just been busy with moving out and then moving in again.”

“Maybe we can talk after getting some food.”

Nodding in a dismissive manner, Arnav knew Khushi had no intention of speaking to him after dinner, but he knew that she couldn’t avoid him for much longer. Enough was enough.

*****

Dinner was ordered and the food arrived a little while later. The food was good and everyone enjoyed it. Pleasantries were exchanged over dinner, all the while the tension between Arnav and Khushi continued to brew until it was almost tangible by all the people sat at the table.

Once everyone was done with dinner, Karl paid the bill and got to his feet and held his hand out to Katie.

“Were just going out to the car to talk for a little while. Can you guys maybe come and join us a little while later?”

Arnav smirked, knowing full well what Karl’s intentions were.

“You guys take your time and have some fun, I can drop Khushi off home.”

“Are you sure?”

“I have no issue, Khushi you?”

Looking between Karl and Katie, it was evident that they were desperate for some alone time. But did she really want to be left alone with Arnav?

“Yeah it’s fine, you guys go, Arnav can drop me off.”

Throwing Khushi an appreciative smile, Katie grabbed her bag.

“I’ll see you at home.”

Placing his hand on the small of her back, Karl led Katie out of the dining area of the hotel and Khushi watched as they exited the building.

“So… Can we talk?”

“Here?”

“Maybe we can go upstairs?”

“I’d rather not.”

“Okay, so how about we go and sit and talk in my car?”

Thinking about it for a moment, Khushi agreed and they got ready to leave. Arnav led Khushi over to his car, and like a gentlemen opened the door for her.

Once inside, they both settled down before Arnav turned to her and got down to business.

“So how have you been?”

“I’ve been okay, just busy, you?”

“Same. Look Khushi, I know you weren’t 100% comfortable with what went down between us that night but I really like you and I feel like you’re shutting me out.”

“I’m not! I told you, I’ve just been busy.”

“So busy you couldn’t even reply to one text in 2 weeks? What’s the real issue here Khushi?”

“I’m just not comfortable okay.”

“No, that’s not okay. I mean it is, I can understand your discomfort, but why do I feel like that’s not all?”

Arnav’s eyes bore into Khushi’s, staring her down, looking into her soul.

“There’s nothing else.”

Taking her hand into his, Arnav forced her to look at him.

“Khushi, I really like you. I’ve never felt so strongly about someone before and I know there’s something going on in your head. If you don’t talk to me about it, how can we work through things. Or do you not feel that strongly about me? Is that it? Do you not like me as much as I thought you did? Because if you don’t that’s fine.”

Was he feeling insecure? Khushi felt slightly taken aback. Was Arnav, Arnav Singh Raizada feeling insecure? Was he actually doubting how much she liked him.

“Please Khushi, tell me.”

He looked so sad, so confused and she couldn’t resist him.

“I just… I don’t think we’re right for each other.”

Arnav sat up a little straighter. What? He wasn’t expecting that.

“What do you mean?”

“I mean, I don’t think I’m the type of girl you’d want.”

“What the hell are you saying?”

“Were from completely different worlds. I don’t think it would ever work between us.”

“Khushi, I really am at a loss here, I have no idea what you mean.”

“I mean, you’re Arnav! Arnav Singh Raizada! You and your family are rich. Richer than rich! And then me, little me, I’m a nobody. I barely have two coins to rub together to produce heat. We’re so different, I don’t think, in the long term, it would work between us.”

Now Arnav was really confused. She thought they weren’t right for each other because of status. Really?

“Is that what you think of me?”

“What do you mean?”
“Do you think I’m that fickle that your background and your financial status matter to me?”

“Maybe it doesn’t now, but…”

“You think you’re not right for me because you don’t have as much money as me?”

“I’m an orphan…”

“So? What’s your point?”

“My point is…”

“You don’t have a damn point Khushi! What has having a family and not having a family got anything to do with how we feel about each other. I know it’s hard being you, I understand that and we’re you come from. But I like you because you’re you, the person you are. I don’t care if you have a family or not, or if you have money or not. Is that how little you think of me?”

Tears pricked in Khushi’s eyes, she really blew it this time. Arnav saw this and tried to swallow his anger down a little. Lifting her chin with his finger, he turned her to face him.

“Khushi, I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have got so angry. I really like you, I might even be falling in love with you. I just want you to know none of those things matter to you, I just want to be with you.”

Touching her face gently, Arnav leaned in. Khushi’s eyes fluttered shut as she moved in a tiny bit. Their lips connected and Arnav’s eye shut. Cupping her face, Arnav moved closer, intensifying the kiss. Khushi rested one hand on his chest and moved the other up to his cheek. Tears rolled down Khushi’s cheek and Arnav brushed them away, all the while pulling her closer to himself.

After kissing intensely for a while, they finally pulled away from each other. Their eyes opened slowly and Khushi blushed and looked down.

Arnav smirked, running a hand through his hair.

“So… Where do we go from here?”

“I don’t know…”

“Khushi, maybe we can date for a while and see where things go.”

“I’d like that.”

Leaning back in, he placed a quick kiss on her lips. Things were finally looking up, maybe they could find a way to make this work out.

Pardesi Pyaar ~ Part 7

A phone began ringing and Khushi crawled under the covers. Who was calling her so early in the morning? Suddenly the ringing stopped and someone answered the phone.

“Good morning….. Yes we’ll be down, ready to leave in a bit…. Thank you.”

Khushi crawled out from under the covers only to be met with the dark eyes of Arnav.

“Morning.”

Rubbing her face, Khushi tried to remember the night before. Why was she waking up in the same room as Arnav. Then it all suddenly came back to her.

“Oh my god.”

Hiding her face with the covers, Khushi cringed as she remembered her behaviour from the night before. Arnav chuckled and came to sit down beside her.

“It’s okay.”

“I’m so embarrassed. I behaved so badly.”

“It’s okay, you were nervous and had too much to drink, happens to the best of us.”

“I’m so sorry.”

“Really Khushi, its fine, don’t worry about it.”

Coming out from under the covers once more, Khushi looked down at herself. She maybe disheveled, but she was still fully dressed. Arnav noticed this.

“Don’t worry, nothing like that happened between us. After you passed out, I tucked you into bed and then I fell asleep myself on the sofa.”

“Thank you for taking such good care of me.”

“I meant what I said to you last night Khushi, I do care about you, and I do really like you. Any way, you get ready, the reception just called to say that we need to leave the room within the hour otherwise we have to pay for another day.”

Nodding, Khushi started getting out of bed.

“I’ll wait for you downstairs at reception.”

Arnav left the room and Khushi sat in bed, remembering the night before. She’d behaved so badly, so unlike herself. Shaking her head, Khushi got out of bed and went into the shower.

*****

Arnav and Khushi were in the car, making their way back to the campus. Khushi remained silent the whole way, she didn’t know what to say, she felt so embarrassed. Arnav tried to talk to her, tried to ease the mood, but she wasn’t in the mood to talk. Pulling her phone out of her bag, Khushi saw a whole tonne of messages and missed calls from Katie.

“Shit.”

“What’s wrong?”

“Katie.”
“Oh don’t worry, after you went to sleep, I called Karl and told him you were with me. He took Katie home, don’t worry, she knows your safe.”

“Thank you so much.”

“Don’t mention it, its fine.”

The drive back to campus took place in silence. No matter what Khushi said, she still felt uncomfortable about how things had played out last night.

*****

Once they got back to campus, Arnav parked the car and took his key out of the ignition.

“Can I walk you back to your place?”

“Thank you for the offer but no thanks.”

“Are you sure?”

“Yes, but thanks for everything.”

“No problem.”

Smiling, Khushi turned away and unlocked the door and got out. She said goodbye and then was on her way back towards her home.

*****

“What the hell khushi! You know I was so worried about you right?”

Throwing herself onto their sofa, Khushi covered her face with a pillow. Katie came and sat down beside her.

“Hey what’s wrong?”

Explaining the events of the night before, Khushi hid her face feeling ashamed at herself.

“Oh Khush, it’s really not that bad.”

“I can’t face him again Katie, I behaved so badly.”

“I know you feel awkward, but he seemed okay did he? And he stayed by you the whole night. So really, you should just let yourself learn from the events and move on.”

Listening to Katie, Khushi knew that she had a point, but she didn’t feel as though she could face Arnav again any time soon. Khushi decided that maybe it would be best to just avoid him for a while, just until it’s not as embarrassing to think about how she had acted.

*****

“Khushi, can you answer your god damn phone, otherwise I’m throwing it out of the window.”

Picking the phone up, Khushi muted it and then put it down again so it could ring on in silence.

Two weeks had passed since graduation and in that time, Khushi and Katie had moved out of their campus home and into Katie’s family home. Khushi had insisted that she would find herself somewhere to stay, but Katie and her parents said that Khushi had to stay with them. There was no point worrying about a house or a flat when she didn’t plan on staying in Durban much longer. In those two weeks, Khushi had gotten accustomed to living with Katie’s family and they too loved having her around. She’d become one of the family and everyone forgot that there was ever a time when Khushi didn’t live with them.

“Will you please just talk to him. He’s getting desperate, he calls at least 3 times a day.”

“I’ll speak to him when I’m ready to Kay.”

“But Khushi! It’s been 2 weeks, surely you’re both over what happened.”

Shaking her head, Khushi grabbed her phone and her laptop and went into the living room.

Moments later, Katie’s own phone buzzed. Picking it up, she realised it was a text from Karl.

Katie and Karl had spent their entire night together on graduation and had really enjoyed each other’s company. Since graduation they had spent a fair amount of time together and were in the stage where they were technically dating, but it wasn’t yet official as such.

Katie opened her text from Karl and replied.

He didn’t reply and say what his plan was, but Katie knew that Karl meant business.

“Khushi! Get ready, we’re going out.”

“Where are we going?”

“Wait and watch!”

Coming back into the room, Khushi raised her eyebrow, waiting for an answer.

“Tell me now, otherwise we aren’t going anywhere.”

“Karl texted, he’s taking us out.”

“He’s taking you out.”

“No he’s taking both of us out. You’re not going to be here much longer and he wants to get to know you as well as he can before he goes. So he’s taking us both out.”

“And Arnav?”

“He didn’t say anything about Arnav so I don’t think he’ll be there.”

“Make sure Arnav isn’t going to be there and then I’ll come with you.”

Katie rolled her eyes and pretended to text Karl and to wait for his response. After about 5 minutes of pretending, she announced that Arnav wouldn’t be there. Khushi agreed to go out with them.

*****

When Karl arrives, Khushi and Katie are ready to go. Like a gentleman, he opens the doors of the car letting them in.

“So Karl, where are we going today?”

“Wait and see ladies, wait and see. I’ve got lots of fun waiting for you both.”

Katie giggled as she clipped her seatbelt and Khushi looked down at her phone biting her lip. Why did she have such a bad feeling about this?
