Jalebi ~ Part 20

By the time Arnav and Khushi awake from their slumber it was nearing 3am. The rain was still falling outside, loud and heavy.

Looking at the time, Arnav jumped up and ran his hand through his hair.

“Shit! Look at the time.”

Looking at the clock, Khushi too gasped.

“Mom and dad… They’re going to kill me. I said I’d get home before too late.”

Pulling the sheets around her, Khushi got out of bed and pulled her phone out of her bag. She saw that she had a couple of missed calls from her parents and then a text from her dad saying that the weather was really bad and that he would feel much more at ease if Arnav and Khushi didn’t attempt to come home in this weather.

Breathing a sigh of relief, Khushi quickly tapped out a reply before taking her charger out of the bag, plugging it in and then putting her phone down before getting back into bed with Arnav.

“Don’t worry, dad said the weathers too bad and that we should find somewhere to stay and not try and get back into the city in this weather.”

Arnav relaxed against the pillows and pulled Khushi into his arms.

“You hair is still wet.”

Touching her hair, Khushi realised that Arnav was right.

“We should have showers before we both fall ill.”

“Might be too late for that already.”

Laughing, Arnav got out of bed and handed Khushi a fresh towel. Holding the sheets close, Khushi got out of bed again and made her way over to the bathroom, before stopping dead in her tracks and raising her hand to her head.

“Clothes! Arnav my clothes are all out in the rain!”

“I’ll bring them in and put them in the drier for you. For now just take some of my clothes from the wardrobe and wear them after your shower.”

Nodding, Khushi went over to the wardrobe, and Arnav followed her, grabbing a dressing gown before he left the bedroom.

*****

Standing under the shower, Khushi let the hot water cascade down her body. It maybe long past 3am, but Khushi was feeling wide awake again, thoughts of everything that had happened between her and Arnav playing on her mind. She couldn’t believe that he was thinking about marriage, that he was ready and was willing to tell his family. That he was ready to ask her parents for her hand. She couldn’t believe this was happening.

If someone had told her a couple of years ago that she would merge her business with someone else’s and that she would fall in love with her business partner, she would have laughed in their faces and told them that they were crazy. But now that is was actually happening, she didn’t find it a hard concept to get her head around.

Yes, her business was still her priority, but she loved Arnav and it was evident that he wasn’t going to come between her and her business. They had managed to maintain a professional relationship while in a personal relationship and she was certain that they would be able to continue this.

Ready to turn the water off and get out of the shower, Khushi felt a strong pair of arms around her waist, lips kissing her exposed neck. Turning her head and lifting her face, Khushi saw Arnav standing behind her, his hands dropping to her hips and pulling her against him so she could feel his length against her butt.

“Hey…”

“I thought, why wait for you to be done when I could just join you in the shower.”

“I’m ready to get out now Arnav.”

“Nope, I don’t think you are.”

Spinning her around, Arnav pushed Khushi up against the wall of the shower, his hands all over her naked body.

“Arnav what are you…”

“I want you.”

“But we’ve already…”

Before she could finish what she wanted to say, his lips were on hers, his hands on her hips, pulling her close so the lower half of her body was crushed against his.

In no time, they were off again, Khushi’s moans filling the shower cubical…

*****

It was nearing 4am when Khushi pushed Arnav out of the bathroom so she could get dressed.

Wrapping the towel around his waist, Arnav laughed and got out and went to get dressed.

By the time he was fully dressed, Khushi got out of the bathroom, wearing one of his big t-shirts and a pair of shorts. Her hair was wrapped up in a big towel, her cheeks bright red from the heat of the bathroom.

“I found a hairdryer for you.”

Arnav pointed to the top of his dresser where a hairdryer was sat, waiting for Khushi.

“You always keep track of all my needs don’t you Mr Raizada?”

“I do… And I plan to keep track of them as we go through life together.”

For some reason, Khushi found Arnav’s words really made her blush. Biting her lip, she turned away so that she could dry her hair. He was promising a future… Promising that he would take care of what she needed in the future. He really was being serious about their life together and Khushi couldn’t help but feel overjoyed.

*****

“Babe… Babe, wake up.”

Eyes fluttering open, Khushi was met with the beautiful sight of Arnav leaning over her. Stretching her arms over her head, Khushi looped her arms around his neck, pulled him close to herself and pressed a kiss on his lips before letting him go again.

“A man could really get used to waking up his girlfriend if he got greeted like that every morning.”

Laughing, Khushi sat up in bed, stretching her arms and legs.

“Did you sleep well?”

“Best nights sleep I’ve had in a long time.”

Moving the covers, Khushi swung her legs out of the bed and got to her feet. She was feeling slightly sore, but she didn’t want to worry Arnav. Arnav smirked as he took her in. She was still in his t-shirt that was completely oversized for her and came half way down her thighs and his shorts that were just peeping out from below the bottom of the shirt.

“You’re clothes are all dry and I’ve ironed them for you.”

He nodded to the sofa on the other side of the room and Khushi saw her clothes all sat there, ready for her.

“You didn’t have to iron them.”

“I know but you didn’t want to go home looking a complete wreck. May have caused your parents to ask a lot of questions.”

“You have a point there Raizada.”

“I’ve taken out a fresh toothbrush for you and left it on top of the towel. If you need anything else just let me know. I’m going to go and get breakfast ready.”

Arnav turned away and was about to leave the room when Khushi rushed over to him and hugged him from behind.

“Thank you… For being such an attentive and caring lover. And I’m not just thanking you for the clothes and the toothbrush. Last night… Last night was by far the most beautiful night of my life, maybe even more so than our first night together.”

Turning in her arms, he pressed a light kiss against her lips, looping his arms around her waist.

“Last night was… Intense and passionate and beautiful for me too. But I know we can’t do this again any time soon.”

Khushi felt slightly taken aback by him saying this. She was just about to say that herself.

“I know that’s what you would have said next and I understand. You wanted us to not spend the night together again until after marriage and I agreed with that. Last night is something we both needed but I know we can’t do that again. But it’s okay by me, as soon as Akash and Payal’s wedding is done, I will tell everyone about us and we’ll get our wedding on track as soon as possible.”

“Thank you for understanding me and my needs.”

“I told you, I’ll always take care of your needs and what you want from me.”

“I really do love you Arnav.”

“I love you too.”

*****

Walking through the front door of her apartment, Khushi was praying that her parents weren’t awake yet. It was still only half 7, so she was hoping she’d got back early enough to avoid any awkward questions. But unlucky for her, her father was sat in the living room, watching TV while eating his toast. Turning his attention to his daughter, he switched the TV off.

“Lalita! Khushi’s home!”

Putting her bag down on the sofa, Khushi came and sat down beside her father.

“You’re already awake?”

“I didn’t sleep well, the whole time difference thing is still causing me to sleep at weird times.”

“You’ll get used to it soon enough papa.”

“I hope so, otherwise it’s going to be a very long month.”

“Do you guys still plan on going back as soon as Payal’s wedding is over.”

“Haan beta. You know India isn’t the place for me. I don’t even know how I am going to stay here for a whole month.”

“But…”

She wanted to tell her father about what Arnav had said last night, about what he had proposed, but she couldn’t bring herself to do it. How does one tell their father that their boyfriend was ready to talk to the families about marriage?

“Did you and Arnav get all your work done yesterday?”

“We did.”

“You should invite him round one day so we can all have dinner together or something. It was nice meeting him at the engagement but it’ll be nice to talk to him when I can actually hear him.”

“I’ll let him know.”

“He is good to you isn’t he Khushi?”

“He is papa. He takes the best care of me and he respects me so, so much.”

“Well I’m glad that you have found love and happiness with Arnav. I’m hoping you kids do plan on making things official very soon.”

Blushing, Khushi looked away and her father got the answer he needed. She didn’t need to say anything, he knew his daughter well enough to know that she and Arnav did have plans for the future.

“Go and have some breakfast now otherwise you’ll be late for work.”

“I’ve already had breakfast but haan, I do need to get ready for work.”

Getting to her feet, Khushi hugged her father quickly before rushing off to her bedroom.

Karan watched his daughter rush away, her cheeks glowing bright pink. May she always remain this happy. That’s all he wanted in life.

*****

Akash walked into Arnav’s office to find his brother smiling at his phone.

“Ahem.”

Locking his phone, Arnav turned around. It was evident that he hadn’t been expecting anyone to walk in on him just now.

“Hey Akash, what’s up bro?”

“Nothing, I just came to see if you came into the office. You didn’t come home last night.”

Smirking, Arnav winked at Akash, who shut the door behind him and sat down at Arnav’s desk.

“You and Khushi spent the night together?”

Arnav nodded and sat down in his seat, opposite Akash.

“If I tell you a secret, will you make sure you don’t tell anyone at home just yet?”

“Of course bhai! You know I’d never tell anyone anything you told me in confidence.”

“I know you wouldn’t. I just wanted to make sure you knew. Well it’s just… I’m going to tell Nani and everyone at home about me and Khushi after your wedding. And I’m going to tell them and her parents that I want to marry her.”

“Wait! You’re going to marry her?”

Nodding, Arnav smiled.

“I spoke to her about it last night and yeah… It’s what we both want and we’ve seen that we can balance business and personal so, I don’t see why we should wait.”

“Wow! Congratulations bhai! That’s… I’m so happy for you! But… Don’t you think it’s too soon. You guys haven’t even been dating for long.”

“I know,  but we love each other and we know we’re serious about each other, I know it’s going to work between us. I don’t feel we need to wait.”

Getting to his feet, Akash went over to Arnav and gave him a big hug.

“Really, I’m so happy you’ve found your happiness in Khushi. And if you guys know what you’re doing then of course I’m going to support your decisions.”

“Thanks bro, means a lot.”

Looking at his watch, Akash excused himself, saying that he had something important to attend to. Arnav let him go and then went to Khushi’s cabin to find her.

Her door was shut and so he knocked and waited.

“Come in.”

Pushing the door open, Arnav walked in, shut the door behind him and then proceeded to come and take a seat opposite her.

“Hi.”

“Hey.”

“You’re working away.”

“Yep. So much to do. You should be working yourself Mr Raizada.”

“I tried to work, but my girl is refusing to get out of my head today. You see, we shared a super passionate night together last night and I can’t stop thinking about her. Can’t stop thinking about how her soft skin felt against my hands, how her lips felt against mine. How her body moved under mine… I’m sure you can understand my issue.”

Biting her lip, Khushi turned her attention away from her laptop and looked at Arnav before lowering her eyes once more.

“You know, it’s highly inappropriate to talk to your business partner about your sex life.”

“Is it also inappropriate to tell my business partner that I really want to take her clothes off right now and make love to her on this very desk.”

“Very, very inappropriate…”

“But I can tell my business partner definitely is imagining how it would be if we actually did what I just mentioned.”

Arnav watched as Khushi’s eyes fluttered shut momentarily. He knew the effect his words were having on her, and he loved knowing how much he affected her.

“Arnav stop…”

Her voice was a mare whisper, pleading him to not make her want him more than she already did.

“Last night Khushi… I can’t stop thinking about us.”

“I can’t either.”

“To think, soon enough, that can be us every single night.”

“I can’t wait…”

“Are you okay, after last night? I wasn’t too rough with you or anything was I?”

“No, no you weren’t rough at all. But I am feeling a bit sore to be completely honest with you. But I guess it could be down to the fact that we haven’t really… I haven’t… Last night was only my second night so… And… You’re really big so…

“You don’t know how much it means to me, knowing that I will be your one and only. As for size, I think you accommodate me perfectly. Made for me.”

Looking away again, Khushi looked at the keyboard of her laptop, blushing furiously.

“There’s so much I want to do with you, try with you… I can’t wait to be married to you Khushi. To make you mine. To explore our sexuality together.”

He watched as her chest rose and fell rapidly. She was breathless, nervous, excited… She wanted everything he wanted and that excited him. Way more than he should allow himself to get excited at the office. Getting to his feet, he leaned over and pressed a kiss on the top of Khushi’s head.

“I’ve got to get back and get some work done. I’ll see you late baby.”

“Bye…”

He didn’t want to have to leave, but he knew that if either of them wanted to get any work done, he had to leave now. He turned his back and began to walk away. Khushi watched as he left, her heartbeat and breathing still erratic from his words. She wanted everything he wanted. And she too could wait until they got married.

*****

Much later the same afternoon, Arnav and Khushi were still in a trance, memories of their passion from the night before keeping them distracted.
A knock on her door brought Khushi back to her senses. Had Arnav come back again? She couldn’t face him again, not now when she had finally completely calmed herself down.

“Come… Come in.”

Popping his head into her cabin, Akash smiled.

“Jijaji, hi! Come in!”

Entering Khushi’s office, Akash shut the door behind himself.

“How are you Khushi? Had a good evening with bhai?”

Gasping at what he was insinuating, Khushi blushed a deep red once more and looked away.

“Jijaji!”

“I’m sorry, I’m sorry, I won’t tease you. I’m just so glad you guys found your happiness in each other. Any way, bhai sent me to get you to sign some papers. He would have come himself but he can’t trust himself to behave at the moment.”

Laughing, Khushi took the papers from Akash and sat down at her desk. Sitting down opposite her, Akash watched as she skim read the top page.

“Oh, this is all to do with the New Years fashion show?”

“Yeah. Bhai asked if you could just sign and date all the pages.”

“Sure.”

Signing the first page, Khushi skimmed over the next one and signed that too.

After that, she stopped reading the pages and just kept signing and dating all the pages.

“Don’t you want to read through it all properly.”

“No it’s alright. Me and Arnav went through all the decisions any way. I trust him to have implicated all my changes accordingly.”

“You trust bhai that much?”

“I’ve trusted him with my heart jijaji, and now I trust him more than I trust myself.”

Getting to the last page, Khushi signed it and then handed the file back to Akash.

“Thanks Khushi. I’ll just pass these to bhai to get signed and then it’s all done.”

Smiling, Khushi nodded and watched as Akash got to his feet and left. Yes, she had trusted Arnav with her heart, she’d completely handed it over to him. And she did trust him more than she trusted herself. She knew he’d never hurt her. She knew he’d always cherish and respect her. Her Arnav loved her, and she loved him, and that’s all that mattered in life.

Getting hold of anything that they knew that they would need to work on, Arnav and Khushi packed up their stuff. It was still only half 8, but they were already at the office, getting things sorted so that they could head out to the Raizada farmhouse.

“Got everything you need?”

Khushi nodded.

“Ready to go then?”

Picking up her bag, Khushi nodded. She was actually really looking forward to spending the whole day with Arnav. There had been so much going on both at the office and at home that they hadn’t really had much time to spend together. And now with the wedding date finalised for a month later, they knew that they were only going to get busier.

Leaving the office, they made their way down to Arnav’s car. Putting the stuff into the back, they got into the car and soon they were off.

*****

The Raizada farmhouse wasn’t too far out of the city, but it still took a while to get there. Looking up, Khushi took in the large house.

“And this place stays empty most of the year?”

“Yep.”

“I must say you Raizada’s have no idea how to downsize! This house must be even larger than Shantivan.”

“It’s a bit bigger than Shantivan. Shall we?”

Nodding, Khushi began to out of the car. Arnav got out via his side and rushed over to Khushi’s side to help her down and to take her bag off of her. Taking her hand, Arnav helped Khushi out of the car and then led her up to the front door of the house.

“When I was younger, we used to come here a lot. But as we all got older, we started spending less and less time here.”

“When does anyone use it then?”

“Last time we used this place properly was during Di and jijaji’s wedding. The wedding happened from here, not from Shantivan.”

“I see. Will you guys have some of the functions for Akash and Payal’s wedding here too then?”

“It hasn’t really been discussed, but perhaps. I like coming here every now and again because it’s nice to work here. There’s no noise from any direction. And we have a really big garden round the back and I like tending to all the plants. I think I permanently want to move here one day, but it takes long to get to work from here.”

Taking out the keys, Arnav unlocked the front door and let Khushi in first. As she stepped inside, she looked around. She was right, the house was huge, far far bigger than Shantivan, however the internal decor was still very similar than that of Shantivan. The colours they had used were all light and the furniture and decor was all simplistic but very elegant.

“Can I get you something to eat?”

“No, I’m fine thank you.”

“Would you like a tour?”

Arnav offered Khushi his arm and she took it. They were then off, making their way through the house.

*****

“Finally we have my office. This is where I like doing my work when I’m here. You can stay here and get your work done, I’ll work from my bedroom.”

“Are you sure?”

“Yes. I’m only 2 doors down, if you need anything just come find me, or just shout and I’ll hear you.”

Pressing a kiss onto her forehead, Arnav left the room. Khushi sat down at the big desk and took out all her stuff, getting to work.

As Khushi’s laptop loaded, she looked around the room. It was much smaller than the bedrooms in the house, but was still a very large office. On the walls were photographs of Arnav from different times in his life, the most recent ones all had him shaking the hands of very important looking people.

Looking at the photos, Khushi couldn’t help but feel proud of Arnav. He had achieved so much in his life, earned so much respect for the work he did. She knew she had done equally as much as he had done, but still. She felt proud of him.

*****

It was just past 5 when Khushi finally turned her laptop off. Putting all her stuff back into her bag, she made sure the office was tidy again and she left, making her way down to Arnav’s bedroom.

His bedroom door was open, so Khushi walked in. His clothes lay on his bed, while he stood there, with his back to her, pulling a t-shirt over his head. Khushi leaned against the doorway as she watched the muscles in his back move as he pulled the shirt on.

“Hi.”

Jumping slightly, Arnav turned. His expression relaxed as he saw Khushi.

“You scared me. I actually forgot you were here.”

Walking into the room, Khushi walked over to Arnav, putting her bag down before she reached him.

“Are you done working?”

“I am.”

Stepping up to him, Khushi wrapped her arms around Arnav’s neck.

“So we can have some fun now?”

Smirking, Arnav placed his hands on Khushi’s waist, pulling her into himself.

“What kind of fun did you have in mind Khushi?”

Closing the distance between them, Arnav let his lips find Khushi’s. They may have only been together yesterday, but their kiss was hungry, passionate from the first moment that their lips met. Arnav’s hands found their way into Khushi’s hair, pulling her head back slightly to make her look up, causing her lips to part. Khushi’s hands found their way under Arnav’s t-shirt and she let her hands roam on his skin. She hadn’t touched him like this in a long time, she’d almost forgotten what his skin had felt like. She’d always been worried someone would walk in on them. But now, she knew they had the house to themselves, there was no chance of anyone walking in on them.
Her hands moved to the front, feeling his abs. Arnav let his tongue slip in between her lips as his hands rested on the side of her breasts. How he wanted to slip his hands under her dress, but he couldn’t due to how fitted it was.

Their making out was all good and fairly satisfying, but Khushi wanted more than this. Pushing Arnav back, they kept moving until the back of Arnav’s legs hit the bed and he fell onto the bed. He sat up and Khushi sat on his lap, facing him. Coming back in for a kiss, Khushi’s hands found their way back under his shirt. Due to the way she was sitting on his lap, her dress rode up, leaving her legs exposed. Arnav’s hands slid onto her legs, up her thighs and he was finally able to get under her dress. He let his hands rest on her exposed waist, felling the soft skin there.

“God Khushi, I missed this.”

Finding the bottom of his t-shirt, Khushi pulled it off of him and threw it aside. Moving back to him, she pressed her lips against the side of her neck, pressing a line of kisses, while Arnav began unzipping the back of Khushi’s dress. Feeling her dress start moving away from her body, Khushi found the hem of her dress and pulled it away from herself, leaving her in nothing but her underwear. Arnav’s eyes widened and he pulled her close to himself and started kissing her neck. His hands rested on her back, just above the clasp of her bra. Pushing Arnav back, Khushi made him lie down on the bed before coming down over him. He bunched her hair in his fist, feeling all the blood in his body move south, causing his member to harden. Khushi moved down his body, pressing kisses on his naked body as she went.

It had been her idea to hold off, to wait, but right now, she knew what she wanted and it wasn’t to wait. She remembered how he’d made her body feel when they’d done it for the first time in London, and she knew she wanted to feel like that again. She knew she should hold off, but this, them… This was all that mattered to her, all that she wanted.

Reaching back, Khushi unclipped her bra, and attempted to slide off the straps when Arnav stopped her. Pulling away, he reached for her clasp and clicked it shut, before handing her a blanket to cover herself.

“Arnav, what’s wrong?”

“You wanted to wait?”

“I did, but I don’t want to now. I want you. I want to be one with you again.”

“I do too… But we can’t right now.”

She moved back slightly, feeling confused. Didn’t he want her? Arnav sensed this and pulled Khushi back to himself.

“I want you, I really do. Only I know how much I’ve missed you and how much I want to make love to you again. But we can’t right now. We haven’t eaten all day, so we should get some food, and then I really, really want to show you something. If we get into bed now, I won’t stop and let you go for hours.”

Understanding, Khushi kissed him one last time before reaching out for her dress and slipping it back on. She understood what he was saying, but she was wet, her body was ready for him. She wanted him now. To wait even until a little later was going to kill her.

*****

After giving herself a while to let her body regulate itself again, Khushi made her way downstairs to find Arnav. Arnav had taken the time to prepare dinner for them both.

“Take a seat, I’ll just bring the food over. It isn’t much, but I hope you’ll enjoy it.”

Taking a seat, Khushi watched as Arnav fumbled around in the kitchen, plating up the food that he had thrown together. Coming over to the table, Arnav placed Khushi’s plate before her and then sat down opposite her and they both began eating.

A little while later, when the food was finished, Arnav took Khushi’s hand and led her up the stairs.

“Where are we going?”

“I want to show you something.”

He led her up the stairs and when they reached the first floor, they kept going.

“Arnav…”

Opening up another door, Khushi saw another set of stairs and Arnav led her up those. Getting to the top of those stairs, Arnav pushed open the door to reveal the large terrace of the house. Letting her move onto the terrace on her own, Arnav let go of her hand and followed her in.

Looking around, Khushi gasped at how pretty it was up here. After they had arrived and while Khushi had been working, Arnav had taken some time out to decorate the terrace. At the centre of the terrace he had put down blankets and pillows. Around the railing he had strung up some fairy lights.

“It’s not much, but do you like it?”

“I love it! It’s so cute! I never realised you were this romantic.”

Arnav chuckled and wrapped his arm around her, pulling her close to himself.

“I can’t wait to show you just how romantic I really am.”

Khushi blushed. From his tone, the way he was talking, she was sure his ideas of romantic were far more sexual than romantic but she didn’t necessarily mind that. Taking her hand once more, Arnav led Khushi over to the blankets on the floor and sat down, pulling her down with him. He then lay down and she did the same.

“Look how clear the sky is here.”

Looking up, Khushi realised that Arnav was right. The sky was very clear. There were no clouds in sight and as they were out of the city, there was not a lot of light pollution and so the stars could be seen far more clearly.

“I love watching the stars. Whenever I come out here and it’s a clear night, I love watching the stars. When I was little, Di told me that our parents had become stars. So coming up here and looking at the stars always helped me feel closer to them.”

“That’s such a sweet idea.”

Cuddling up to Arnav, Khushi pressed a kiss on his cheek. Tucking his arm under Khushi’s head, she placed an arm around his waist and rested her head on his chest.

“If your parents could see us now, what do you think they’d think about us?”

“I think they’d be thinking that I’m the luckiest man on earth to have found you.”

“And in the luckiest woman to have you.”

“Khushi… I wanted to talk to you about something.”

“Anything.”

“I… I know we said…”

Looking up, Khushi could see that Arnav was nervous about something.

“Arnav, what’s wrong? You know you can just tell me anything.”

Taking a deep breath, Arnav started again.

“I know this is quite soon and I know we both said we wanted to wait. Hell, even last night we said we wanted time, but I… Khushi I was thinking and… I want to tell my elders about you.”

“Of course! If that’s what you want then yes! We’ll tell them! After all, everyone else, even my parents, know about us, so I don’t see why we should keep Nani, mama and mamiji in the dark.”

“Khushi there’s more… I… I was thinking a lot last night and… I think I want us to marry.”

Pulling away from him completely, Khushi looked at Arnav with wide eyes.

“Are you… Are you being serious?”

“I love you Khushi. I really, really do. I can’t imagine my life without you any more. And I know how much importance marriage has in your life and in the lives of my sister and Nani. I want to do things properly, make us official, give our relationship a real name.”

“Are you really being serious?”

“I have never been more serious about anything in my life.”

Letting out a squeal of joy, Khushi moved back onto Arnav, taking his lips between hers in a passionate kiss. He wrapped his arms around her as she lay her body against his, he kissed her back.

Pulling apart slightly, Arnav wanted to add one last thing.

“But I want to reveal my plans of wanting to marry after Payal and Akash’s marriage. I don’t want the attention to shift off of them, after all it is their wedding.”

“That’s fine by me. It’s only a one month wait. Oh my god Arnav I can’t believe this!”

Pulling her back, Arnav wrapped his arms around her more tightly as their lips met once more. His hands roamed on her back before settling on the zip of her dress. Pulling it down in one swift motion, he pushed the dress away from her body. He pushed it down to her waist, allowing her bra clad breasts to rest on his chest. Pushing her onto her back, Arnav pulled his t-shirt off before coming over her. He felt the lace of her bra brush against his chest. He could feel her nipples poking against his chest. Their kiss intensified as Khushi wrapped her legs around his waist.

They carried on kissing, touching, trying to get as close to each other as possible. Clothes lay forgotten beside them. Arnav had pulled one of the silky blankets and had draped it over them. During their intimate make out session, the sky had darkened further, the stars were eclipsed by the clouds and drops of rain began to fall.

Feeling the rain on his shoulders, Arnav pulled himself away slightly, realised it was raining and started getting up.

“We should go inside.”

Shaking her head, Khushi gestured they go under the little canopied area on the terrace. Lifting Khushi up into his arms, she clutched the blanket around her chest as he carried her over to the sheltered area. Placing her down, he moved back over her. The sound of rain hitting the top of the canopy was all that they could hear before they started kissing once more.

Final barriers of clothing pulled away, their bodies joined in the most intimate of embraces. The sound of the heavy rain around them filled the air. But moments later, the sound of their passion filled moans also filled the air.

Her legs wrapped around his waist and her arms holding onto his back, Khushi let herself go, in a way she hadn’t done when they’d made love in London. She allowed him to fill her completely, not just her body, but her mind also. His lips pressed kisses along her skin, while his hands sought to touch every inch of her exposed skin. Their bodies moved in time with each other’s, a moderate pace set.

The rain kept falling and they kept going, completely immersed in each other, letting go of all rationality. All that mattered was their love, their passion and their promised future…

*****

Picking up a completely spent Khushi off the floor, Arnav wrapped the silky sheet around her body before lifting her off the floor. The rain was still falling, harder than ever, but it was starting to get cold and so they knew that they needed to go inside. Rushing across the terrace with Khushi in his arms, Arnav made his way over to the door and down the stairs and into his bedroom.

Tucking Khushi into bed, he went over and picked up his towel to dry his hair. Sitting up in the bed with the blanket around her, Khushi bit her lip as she took in Arnav’s completely naked body.

“Arnavvv…”

Turning around, he raised his eyebrow.

“Come over here.”

Throwing his towel aside, he strode over to her, not at all ashamed that he was hanging completely loose in front of her.

“Does my baby want something?”

“Your baby wants you to get into bed with her and make love to her all over again.”

Pushing Khushi back against the pillows, Arnav pressed his lips onto her once more before coming over her for another round.

*****

The clock struck 11 and Khushi could hear her phone ringing. Lifting her head, she saw her bag still sat by Arnav’s bedroom door. Pulling the covers of the bed away, she attempted to get out of bed, only to have Arnav pull her back and into himself. He was fast asleep, but his hold on her remained firm. Trying to move his arm away, Khushi attempted once more to get out of bed, but by the time she managed to get free, her phone stopped ringing.

Turning her attention back to the man sleeping beside her, Khushi couldn’t help but smile. Arnav was fast asleep. Brushing his hair out of his eyes, Khushi leaned in and pressed a kiss on his forehead. This was her man, the love of her life, her lover and soon he was going to be her husband. Loving the thought of him being her husband, Khushi lay back down and cuddled back up to Arnav.

Life couldn’t get better than this.

“Khushi! I can’t find my bangles!

“Jiji they’re in the top drawer of your dressing table!”

Waiting at the bottom of the stairs, Khushi paused to see if Payal found the bangles herself or if she needed to go up.

“Arre haan, I found them, thanks!”

Going back to making sure all the decorations were up properly, Khushi went to find a mirror to check herself out. Khushi had been so busy with work and making sure everything was perfect for Payal’s engagement, that she hadn’t really had time for go shopping for an outfit for herself. When she realised she had nothing to wear, she’d just decided on wearing one of her old outfits or she’d take something from one of her Khushiyan ranges, but when Payal’s lengha arrived, Khushi was shocked to find a smaller box for herself. Inside was a simple, pale gold lengha with a note from Arnav.

“This is the first major event that we are going to be attending since after becoming a couple. You didn’t expect me to not style my girl did you?”

It wasn’t the most romantic note in the world, but Khushi treasured it regardless. The lengha itself was something she’d usually look at and like in a store, but she’d never buy. It was relatively simple, with a flowy bottom but the top was fairly tight and also quite small, just big enough to cover Khushi’s bust. It was a beautiful lengha and Khushi could imagine where Arnav’s mind was going when he picked this out for her and she loved it, but didn’t know how comfortable she felt wearing it around both their families. But if course the outfit came with a large, heavily detailed dupatta which Khushi draped in a way so that she could cover all the exposed skin at the front, without ruining the look of the outfit.

She couldn’t wait for him to see her!

*****

The Raizada’s arrived and Khushi rushed to the door to greet them. It was during all of the engagement prep that Khushi finally met every single member of the family. She had been nervous to meet the elders of the Raizada family, but it made things a lot easier meeting them as Payal’s sister and Arnav’s business partner. Arnav and Khushi weren’t quite ready to take the dive and let the elders of the family know about their relationship.

Anjali came forward and gave Khushi a hug.

“Hi Di!”

“How are you Khushi? You look absolutely stunning today.”

Breaking the hug, Khushi looked over her shoulder to find Arnav watching her.

“What can I say Di, your brother styled me.”

“Chote? Really?”

Nodding, Khushi winked at Anjali who laughed.

“But really, you look really beautiful.”

“As do you Di.”

Shyam also came over to Khushi, asking her about her general wellbeing.

Finally, Arnav approached Khushi as the Gupta’s ushered the rest of the Raizada’s into their home.

“Hi.”

“Hi.”

“You look beautiful.”

“Thank you, I really love this outfit.”

“I’m glad you like it.”

“You look really good yourself Arnav.”

“Thanks. Are you parents here?”

“No they haven’t arrived yet, but they are on the road. I’ll introduce them to you as soon as they arrive.”

Arnav pulled at his collar and Khushi placed a hand on his shoulder.

“If you’re not ready to meet them, it’s cool. I’ll invite you over one night and you can meet them at home.”

“No no, I want to meet them and get the awkward stuff over and done with. I also don’t want them to think I’m hiding from them.”

“I still can’t believe you want to face them already.”

“I want them to know that I am serious about you and that my intentions aren’t to just fool around with you.”

Taking his hand in her own, Khushi leaned into Arnav, wanting to kiss him.

“Are you guys still standing here?”

Shyam rushed over to Arnav and Khushi, blocking them from everyone else’s view.

“Guys, I know you’re a couple and haven’t spent much time together recently, but now isn’t the time to start getting intimate. Especially if you don’t plan on telling the elders about your relationship just yet.”

Moving apart, Arnav put his hand on his brother in laws shoulder.

“Thanks jiju. For having our back like this.”

Shyam gave them and understanding nod and then went back over to his wife.

“We should…”

“Yeah, I need to check on jiji as well.”

Moving apart, both Arnav and Khushi headed in their respective directions, away from each other.

*****

Descending the stairs, all eyes were on the blushing bride to be, but her sister was also attracting a lot of attention. Around Arnav, he could hear aunties asking about Khushi, talking about how she would make a beautiful bride for their sons. It angered Arnav hearing people talk like that, but he knew he didn’t have to worry. Khushi was his.

Khushi helped Payal down the stairs and then led her over to the stage where Akash was waiting. As they reached the foot of the stage, Akash stepped down, took Payal’s hand and helped her up to join him, while Khushi came and stood beside Arnav.

“They really do look lovely together don’t they Arnav.”

“They do. But I’m pretty sure we make a better looking couple than they do.”

Eyes wide, Khushi looked around to check if anyone heard what he had said or if they had noticed them at all. But no one seemed to be paying attention to anyone other than the couple getting engaged.

Payal and Akash stood on stage, waiting for the right time for the engagement to begin. Everyone spoke amongst themselves, waiting.

All of a sudden, the doorbell rang.

“Mama and papa are here!”

Rushing away, Khushi went and threw the door open. There stood before her were her parents.

“Mom, dad! Finally! I’ve been waiting all day.”

Throwing her arms around her parents, Khushi called over a helper to take their bags while she led them into the main living space where all the guests and the rest of the family members were.

Payal descended from the stage and went over to her aunt and uncle and hugged them, before taking their blessings.

“Maasi, why are you and Mausaji so late? I was worried you were going to miss my engagement.”

Lalita Gupta hugged her niece and placed a kiss on her head.

“I wouldn’t miss your engagement for the world my dear. Now where is that mother of yours?”

Garima rushed forward, arms open as she embraced her older sister.

“Jiji! I’m so glad you and jiju have made it! I was worried jiju wouldn’t come, but dekho, you are both here.”

“Again, our only niece is getting engaged, how could we miss this?”

Once the initial hugging was done, Garima and Shashi ushered Lalita and Karan into the house and introduced them to the Raizada’s, starting with the elders and ending with Akash.

Greeting everyone in turn, both of Khushi’s parents eyes were looking for one individual. Arnav stepped forward to touch their feet before introducing himself.

“Namaste, I’m Arnav…”

Blessing him, both of Khushi’s parents took him in. Arnav felt nervous. Neither were saying anything but there was a silent exchange taking place between them. Khushi too noticed this and couldn’t help but feel nervous.

After what felt like a lifetime, Karan Gupta finally smiled and took Arnav into his arms.

“Arnav… We’ve heard so much about you from Khushi, it’s such a treat to finally meet you.”

“I wanted to come and see you and aunty while I was in London, but our plans changed and I had to come back soon after the conference.”

“No matter, no matter, we are meeting now. We are staying with Khushi until the wedding, so please do come by and meet with us when there is more time to sit and talk. I would love to pick at your brains regarding your business and future plans.”

What Khushi’s father was implying wasn’t missed by Arnav. It was clear that he wanted to talk to Arnav about what his intentions were regarding him and Khushi.

“It’s time for the engagement ceremony to begin.”

The attention once more shifted to Payal and Akash as everyone went back to their original positions, waiting around the stage. Arnav took Khushi’s hand just before she left to go stand beside Payal.

“I think your parents approve of me.”

Blushing, Khushi moved away from Arnav and went to stand beside Payal and handed her the ring so she could place it on Akash’s finger. She couldn’t help but wonder when it would be her turn to have a ring placed on her finger.

*****

Rings had been exchanged, Payal and Akash were officially engaged. Guests and the family members were all around the new couple, congratulating them on their engagement. Arnav saw this as an opportunity to spend some time with Khushi.

Taking her hand, Arnav dragged Khushi away and into the empty kitchen.

“Arnav, what are you doing?”

Shutting the door behind them, Arnav moved close to Khushi, putting his hands on her exposed waist.

“Did I tell you I think you look god damn gorgeous today?”

“You did…”

“In my opinion, I think you even look better then Payal.”

“Thanks…”

“I’ve missed you Khushi.”

“I’ve missed you too. But we’ve been so busy…”

“And now with the wedding preparations, were going to get even more busy. Plus with your parents staying with you, I won’t even be able to come and spend some time in the evenings with you.”

He stepped closer, his body heat making Khushi feel very warm. His hand brushed the dupatta away from her, and he placed it on the side. Raising her arms, Khushi tried to cover her chest. Her breasts may have been covered, but she felt exposed due to the tightness and the smallness of the material.

“Don’t feel shy, you look sexy as hell.”

He moved closer, one hand still resting on her exposed waist, the other on the side of her neck. He pulled her into himself, causing Khushi to gasp. Arnav took this moment to capture Khushi’s lips between his own. The initial shock melted away and Khushi wrapped her arms around Arnav’s neck, pulling him closer as his hands caused havoc on her exposed skin.

As they stood there in the kitchen, kissing, they both realised how long it had been since they’d been like this. Khushi bit down on Arnav’s lip slightly, causing his lips to part and she took the opportunity to slip her tongue between his lips.

As their tongues duelled for dominance, Arnav ran his hand down Khushi’s exposed spine, causing her to shiver with anticipation. Her hands raised to the top button of his shirt, attempting to unfasten it. Just as Khushi took the top button off, the door, causing them to jump apart. Khushi quickly turned around, grabbing her dupatta off the worktop.

“Chote! Really?”

“Di!”

Fixing her dupatta, Khushi slowly turned around, keeping her eyes fixed to the ground.
Anjali shut the door behind her and moved towards Arnav, her arms folded across her chest.

“Chote, Khushi, I understand that you are a couple and that you are in love, but really, now? Here? At this moment when there’s a houseful of guests? Anyone could have walked in. You’re lucky Nani asked me to bring her water.”

“I’m sorry Di… We haven’t had time to spend together… You know how it is.”

Anjali looked at Khushi, who’s eyes were still down as she fiddled with her dupatta, making sure she was properly covered again.

“Look, I understand what you two are going through, but you really need to keep yourselves in check. Anyway, it is evident that you’re serious about each other, and seeing as everyone else knows, Chote, I think it’s time you told Nani and mama and mami about your relationship. After all Khushi’s parents know so…”

“No Di, we can’t. The moment we tell Nani, she’ll start planning the wedding. We need more time.”

Looking at Khushi, Anjali moved over to her, placed a finger under her chin and gently lifted her face.

“Khushi, do you want to wait too, or is that what he wants?”

“I do… I want to wait a bit.”

Taking a step back, Anjali nodded.

“Okay, fine. I respect your wishes to want to take time, but please. I need you both to be more careful. You have two minutes to finish up what was happening here, and then I want you both outside before someone notices something’s up.”

Leaving the kitchen, Khushi hid her face in Arnav’s chest.

“That was by far the most uncomfortable moment of my life.”

“It’s only Di.”

“I know, but still. I didn’t want her to see us like that.”

Lifting her face, Arnav pressed a kiss on Khushi’s forehead and hugged her.

“Let’s go away tomorrow evening.”

“We can’t…”

“We can. We’ll just go to the farmhouse to spend some time together. We haven’t had any time to ourselves and I really miss you.”

“But how can we. My parents…”

“Business trip.”

“We can’t lie…”

“We’re not lying. We’ll go there during the day, do all our work there and then spend the evening there too before heading back.”

Taking a moment to consider Arnav’s proposal, Khushi thought about it properly. What he was saying sounded like a good idea. It was true, it had been a very long time since they last spent any time together. This way they would be able to do that without anyone thinking much of it.

“Okay… Let’s do it.”

“Great! So, come to the office first thing and then we’ll leave together from there.”

Nodding, Khushi placed a quick kiss on Arnav’s cheek before rushing away. Arnav watched as she left, smiling to himself. Tomorrow couldn’t come soon enough.

*****

As Arnav and Khushi rejoined the rest of the family, they saw the elders all sat around together with the pandit.

“Khushi, they must be setting the date for the wedding!”

“I still can’t believe that they’re finally getting married. It feels like it was only yesterday when they were first getting together.”

“Time has flown by hasn’t it?”

Nodding, they went over to where Akash and Payal were standing. As soon as Payal saw Khushi, her eyes widened.

“Khushi, I need you to do something for me.”

“Anything for you.”

Leaning in, Payal whispered what she wanted from Khushi.

“Oh come on! Really?”

“Please!”

Letting out a sigh, Khushi nodded.

“Anything for you jiji.”

Moving away, Arnav raised his eyebrow as he watched Khushi walk away. What was she up to now?

Suddenly the lights dimmed down, and a spotlight came on, focusing only Khushi. The melodies of a song began to play.

“This ones for you jiji and jijaji.”

As the song began to play, Khushi began to dance. The guests all cheered her on and clapped.

Everyone watched as she twirled and danced, lip syncing the words as she went along.

While dancing, Khushi couldn’t help thinking about herself and Arnav and how the lyrics also reflected them.

*Mere sapno ke khidiki pe aa gaya*

It was true, somehow Arnav had arrived at the windows of her dreams. He was in all her dreams, all the time. If she didn’t see him in her dreams, her night felt incomplete.

Continuing to dance, she turned to Arnav, singing to him without making it too obvious. He realised though and couldn’t help but smile.

*Hua dil pehli pehli baar re*

Never had she felt this way about someone before. Never had she been so in love with anyone and she was sure, she would never love anyone in this manner ever again.

*Dhadkano ke paas mein*

He was close to her dhadkan, even when they were apart from each other, he had made a space for himself in her heart and she knew that she could never let him get away again.

The song continued and Khushi carried on dancing. Payal placed her hand on Akash’s arm.

“This song… That’s how I feel about you.”

Smiling, Akash pressed a kiss on the top of Payal’s head, but his eyes remained locked on Khushi and Arnav. Their relationship was getting stronger, he could tell by the way Khushi kept directing certain lines of the song at him and the way he looked at her. If he wanted Khushi’s business, he knew he needed to act fast. If Arnav and Khushi’s relationship peaked, then there would be no way he could take anything of Khushi’s from under Arnav’s nose. He needed to work fast but what should he do? And how?

As the song came to an end, Khushi took a small bow. Anjali walked over to Arnav and gave him a nudge.

“I don’t know about anyone else, but I saw all the subliminal messages that Khushi was throwing your way during the performance.”

“Di!”

“I’m just teasing, but honestly Chote, I hope you both always stay this happy.”

“She’s becoming my life Di.”

“Then make sure you keep her close. And I hope no ones evil eye ever falls on your happiness.”

“If you keep praying for us Di, then I know no evil will ever be able to touch us.”

“God bless you and your relationship Chote.”

Turning his attention back to Khushi, he watched as people congratulated her on her amazing performance. He couldn’t help but feel proud of his baby. His Khushi, his love. Maybe he was ready to make them official after all. Maybe he needed to give their relationship a real name sooner than he thought.

Jalebi ~ Part 17

IMG_8793

Sat in a cute little coffee shop, Khushi was waiting for Anjali to arrive. She’d been dreading this meeting all week, but Arnav had told her that he really wanted her to meet his Di and that Anjali too really wanted to meet her. Khushi knew just how important Anjali was to Arnav and so felt inclined to meet her, despite how worried she felt. She’d tried to make excuses, mainly using the fact that she would meet all the Raizada’s any way during Payal and Akash’s engagement, but Arnav had made it clear that he wanted Khushi to get to know his sister and for his sister to get to know Khushi as his girlfriend, not just Payal’s cousin and his business partner.

It wasn’t that she didn’t want to meet Anjali, it was just that she didn’t want Anjali to be disappointed with her, or disapprove. She felt sick with nerves and was ready to bail when the door of the cafe opened and a tall woman in a pretty pastel pink sari walked in. She had long dark hair which cascaded down her back, and a face with very sharp yet innocent looking features. Khushi recognised her instantly as being Anjali Manohar Jha, Arnav’s sister.

Getting to her feet, Khushi smoothed out her anarkali style kameez that she was wearing and smiled at Anjali. She had decided to wear Indian clothes for a change as she thought it may help to impress his Di. He’d always said how she was all about tradition and rituals. Returning the smile, Anjali walked over to Khushi, her arms outstretched for a hug from a mile away.

“Oh my goodness, you’re Khushi aren’t you?”

“I am, namaste Anjali Ji.”

Breaking the hug, Anjali took the seat opposite Khushi, her smile wide and genuine.

“I can’t even begin to tell you how great it is to finally meet you. I’ve been wanting to meet you since you and Chote went into partnership, but you know how it is, life just keeps getting in the way.”

“It’s so great to finally be able to meet you as well. He talks a lot about you.”

“He talks about you a lot as well! Ever since you guys have merged businesses, he hasn’t stopped talking about the way you work and the way that you run your business. He’s very taken by you.”

A waiter came round and asked Khushi and Anjali what they would like, so they placed their order and then went back to their conversation.

“You know Khushi, I’ve had a feeling for ages that there’s been someone on his radar but he never admitted it. I was quite shocked when he actually told me about you.”

“I guess maybe he didn’t want to say anything until we were actually headed somewhere. Up until before we went to London, I’d been doing my best to maintain a distance between us so that it wouldn’t cause any issues in our professional relationship.”

“What changed?”

“I’ve been attracted to him for a long time and when we went to London I just couldn’t deny it any more. Probably one of the most reckless decisions I have ever made, but honestly, he makes me really happy and I didn’t want to throw that away.”

“You make him very happy too Khushi. From speaking to him and speaking to you now, it is evident that the way you feel about each other is very strong.”

Blushing, Khushi took a sip of her coffee that the waiter has just brought round.

“How are the engagement preparations going?”

“Oh they’re going great! Me and Payal were shopping yesterday. How about for you guys?”

“It’s been going well on our side as well. I’ve never seen Akash so excited about anything in his life.”

“Aw that’s so sweet. I really like Akash jiju. I have done since high school. He was so responsible and kind and so easy to talk to.”

“Were you and Chote close in high school?”

Memories from her high school day hit her and Khushi couldn’t help but feel uneasy. She remembered the way Arnav and others like him who had always looked down on her, always assumed that she wouldn’t amount to much. She knew she’d taken Arnav by a storm now, but it still hurt a bit knowing that he once thought she wasn’t worthy of getting to know.

“No, we were never really in the same groups or anything so I didn’t really know him.”

From this point onwards, the conversation went back to the upcoming wedding, with Anjali teasing Khushi that maybe soon she and Arnav would also tie the knot. Khushi simply replied saying that it was still early and that they needed to get to their feet first before thinking about going further.

Their time was nearing its end when Anjali got a text. She turned her phone over, looked at the message, laughed and turned it over again.

“That was your deewana. He’s reminding me that I shouldn’t tease you.”

“I’ll make sure to tell him you teased me lots and lots!”

Pretending to be taken aback, Anjali’s eyes widened and her hand covered her mouth in shock.

“Oh please don’t, he’ll kill me.”

Both woman burst out laughing, going back to finish their coffee. When they were both finally done, they got to their feet, preparing to part ways.

“Really Khushi, I’m so happy to have finally met you.”

“Same! I will be honest, I was really nervous, but I feel much better now. It was lovely meeting you.”

“I guess I’ll see you next week at the engagement.”

“I’m looking forward to it!”

They hugged once more before they went their own ways.

*****

The moment Anjali returned home, Arnav ambushed her like a child.

“Di, Di, Di! You’re back! Tell me everything!”

“Do you want me to tell you in the middle of the hall where everyone can hear us?”

Shaking his head, he took his sisters hand and dragged her over to the poolside.

“Chote! Stop! What are you doing? You haven’t acted like this since we were kids.”

“You can tease me later Di, just tell me what happened and what you thought of her.”

Anjali took in the look on her brothers face. He was so excited, so full of joy and hope. His happiness reminded her of the way he was when they were children.

“You want the truth Chote?”

“Yes!”

“I didn’t like her at all. Not one bit. I don’t think you should carry on seeing her Chote.”

*****

Instead of going to her own apartment, Khushi decided to stop by Payal’s house. She still hadn’t told Payal about her relationship with Arnav and now after meeting Anjali, she wanted to talk to someone. And who better than her jiji.

Engagement preps had began, with all the lights and decorations already up and ready. As she walked in, Khushi was met by Payal who was walking around the house, looking very frantic.

“Hey jiji, what’s up?”

“Thank goodness you’re here Khushi! I was going to call you and ask you to come but seems like you read my mind.”

“What’s wrong?”

“My lengha for the engagement hasn’t arrived. What if it doesn’t arrive on time!”

Laughing, Khushi took Payal’s hand and led her over to the sofas and sat her down.

“I called Arnav regarding it last night and he said that it will be with you tomorrow.”

“Are you sure?”

“Yes. Arnav is personally overlooking the alteration process so you have nothing to worry about. The lengha will be perfect when it arrives and it’ll be here tomorrow. So rest easy.”

“Oh I feel so much better now. I was seriously worried I wouldn’t get it in time or that it wouldn’t fit and I would have to send it back to AR and it would take longer and…”

“JIJI! Stop! Calm down! You’re rambling on and on and on!”

“I’m getting engaged Khushi. If I don’t get nervous, who will?”

“Are you nervous about the actual engagement or are you nervous about the honeymoon.”

Nudging Payal suggestively, Khushi raised her eyebrows as she watched Payal blush.
Hitting Khushi’s arm, Payal laughed.

“Besharam!”

“I’m not shameless jiji, I was asking a genuine question.”

“Acha forget all that, tell me, what made you remember me all of a sudden? Usually I have to call you three times before you agree to come.”

It was now Khushi’s turn to blush as she thought about all the things she wanted to talk to Payal about.

“Let’s go to your room and then I’ll tell you.”

*****

Arnav looked at his Di, waiting for her to start laughing, to tell him that she was messing with him and that actually she loved Khushi and couldn’t wait for Khushi to one day become a part of the family. But what he was waiting for never came.

“You didn’t… You didn’t like her?”

“There’s nothing special about her Chote. Very average, unlike you. I’m sure we could find you a girl ten times the person Khushi is. I felt like she was quite stuck up, up herself a bit because of this little business she has. I don’t like her.”

“But Di…”

“You don’t have my blessings Chote and I want you to end your relationship with her before Akash’s engagement.”

He couldn’t believe what he was hearing. Di didn’t like Khushi, and she wanted him to break it off with her. He couldn’t do that. Not after waiting for almost a year before actually getting her.

“I can’t do that Di.”

“Why can’t you? It’s easy, just tell her you don’t feel seriously about her any more and that you don’t want to proceed with your relationship.”

“But that’s a lie! I am serious about her and I do want to be with her. Di… I think I may even be in love with her. If you need to, please meet her again. I can’t let her go Di and I really want you to like her.”

Taking in her brothers worried expression and the intensity of his words, Anjali found out what she wanted to know. Placing her hand on her brothers shoulder, she turned his head to her.

“I was joking Chote, I wanted to check this is what you really, really wanted. I have no issues with her. In fact I think she’s perfect for you, I don’t think I could have selected someone more worthy for you even if I tried.”

“So you liked her?”

“Of course I did! What is there not to like? She’s soft spoken, kind, attentive, cultured and most importantly she really cares about you. What more could I possibly want from a girl for you?”

Arnav let out his breath that he’d been holding and hugged his Di.

“You scared me! I really thought you didn’t approve and I would have to break up with her.”

“Would you have really let her go if I said I didn’t like her?”

“You know I would! I’d do anything for you Di.”

Touched at her brothers words, Anjali blessed him with all the happiness in the world. She really couldn’t think of anyone more deserving of that than her Chote.

*****

“Khushi, will you tell me what’s up? You’ve been pacing for the last 10 minutes and you’re starting to scare me.”

“Okay, I’ll tell you but promise me you won’t freak out.”

“I promise.”

Taking a deep breath, Khushi sat down beside Payal.

“I… There’s… I’m seeing someone.”

“You are?! Who? Since when?”

“It’s… I… Arnav.”

“Arnav? As in Arnav Singh Raizada? As in Akash’s cousin? My jetji to be? Your business partner?”

“Yes jiji. You didn’t need to mention all of those, but yes, that Arnav.”

“But I thought you were going to stay away from him because you didn’t want anything to come between you and your business.”

“I know, but things have been happened between us for a long time and I’ve tried denying my feelings for him, pushing them away, but when we went to London… I just couldn’t do it any more. I couldn’t resist. I think I really love him jiji. At first I just thought it was attraction and then… I don’t know what happened.”

“All I want to know is, Khushi does he make you really really happy?”

“He does jiji.”

“Then you have my blessings. If he makes you really happy and you really want to be with him. Then just be with him. Sometimes it may get complicated because of the whole business partners thing, but I don’t know anyone smarter than the two of you, so I know you’ll be able to keep a balance and make things work out.”

Exhaling, Khushi rushed over to Payal and gave her a big hug. She always knew her sister would be supportive but she hadn’t fathomed that Payal would accept hers and Arnav’s relationship just like that.

She couldn’t believe her luck. So far everyone was happy with her relationship with Arnav, and everyone who knew so far were the ones who were most important to her. Not wanting to jinx it, Khushi prayed that her happiness remain this way and she hoped that this meant that her and Arnav’s relationship would sail smoothly now.

After all, what could go wrong now?

“Arnav!”

Running forward, Khushi threw herself into Arnav’s arms. Her time in London was done, she’d done everything she’d wanted to do, and now she was back for good. She was ready to finally settle down in Delhi and move forward with her relationship with Arnav.

“Hey, I missed you.”

“I missed you too Arnav.”

They remained in their embrace for a long moment, taking in the feel of each other, basking in the warmth of each other. Finally breaking apart, Arnav took hold of Khushi’s suitcase and they began making their way down towards his car.

“How was your flight?”

“Just felt super long and very tiring.”

“Were you able to sort everything that you wanted to deal with?”

“Yes, I’ve done everything I wanted to do.”

“So are you here for good now?”

“I think so.”

“I can’t believe your parents accepted.”

“I know! I didn’t think they would agree so easily, I was so worried they’d talk to me about Rohan, but it was as though dad was waiting for me to tell him about you.”

They’d reached the car and Arnav filled the back with Khushi’s luggage as she got and sat down at the front. Turning in her seat, she looked at the back seat and recalled the time her and Arnav got intimate back there. Arnav slid into his seat and grinned as he realised what Khushi was thinking.

Leaning over, Arnav gently turned Khushi’s face towards his and pressed his lips between hers. Khushi’s arms wound around his neck as she moved closer to him, letting her lips move against his in an intimate dance for dominance. Placing his hands on either side of her neck, Arnav lightly bit down on Khushi’s lip, making her part her lips, allowing his tongue to trace her bottom lip. His hands dropped down to her breasts and at that point Khushi snapped out of it and pulled away.

Arnav’s eyes slowly opened, a look of confusion crossing his face.

“What’s wrong?”

“Nothing… I just don’t want to do this here.”

“Backseat?”

Laughing, Khushi ran her finger over his face and moved into him before whispering seductively.

“How about we take it back to your apartment, the one that’s mine until further notice?”

Smirking, Arnav pulled away and put the car into gear and they were off.

The sexual tension between the two and the anticipation of what was to come was as tangible as anything else, yet they controlled themselves, waiting to finally get to the apartment.

“So what else has been happening here?”

“Nothing much. Everyone’s been busy trying to put plans together for Akash and Payal’s wedding.”

“Has anything been decided yet?”

“Not really but I think we’re close to finally deciding on an wedding date, but they’ll finalise it on the night of the engagement. Are your parents going to come for the wedding?”

“I think they will. Papa isn’t too sure about how he feels about coming back, he hasn’t set foot in India in years.”

“Well I hope your parents come, I really want to meet them. Especially your dad.”

“I’m sure he wants to meet you too. Now more than ever.”

Taking hold of Khushi’s hand, Arnav placed it on his lap.

“You know, I feel so at peace being back with you. I feel like I can let my heart and my mind rest.”

“I’m sorry I asked you to leave like that. I understand it would’ve been confusing for you.”

“It was, but I understand that you needed time to process.”

“Thank you, for being so understanding. Not just now, but right from the beginning. You’ve always respected what I want and put my feelings above yours.”

Squeezing her hand, Arnav reassured her that it was all okay. They carried on driving and soon enough they reached their destination. Getting out of the car, Arnav moved to the back to take Khushi’s things out.

Taking a set of keys out of his pocket, Arnav handed them to Khushi, telling her which floor they needed and which apartment number. Khushi led the way while Arnav followed her with her luggage.

Taking the lift, Khushi took them up to the correct floor. They waited in silence, for both were just waiting for the lift to ping so they could get out and find the apartment as quickly as they could.

When finally the lift did reach the floor they needed, they got out and Arnav pointed out which way they should go to find the apartment.

Once at the door, Khushi unlocked the door and stepped in, putting her bag down. Arnav walked in behind her and put down her luggage, shutting the door behind him. Even before he could turn back, Khushi was on him, pushing him back against the door as her lips crashed onto his. Her hands were fumbling with his buttons before he even had the moment to start kissing her back. His hands dropped to her waist as Arnav melted into the kiss, following the rhythm that she had set. Khushi pushed his shirt off his body just as Arnav had started unzipping Khushi’s dress. He went slow, pulling the zip down slowly as he slowed down the pace of the kiss also. He pulled at the zip, and Khushi felt the cold bit of metal move down her back until it finally rested at the base of her spine. Pushing the dress of her shoulders, it fell away, pooling around Khushi’s feet.

Arnav broke the kiss at this point and looked at her.

“You’re so god damn beautiful.”

Lifting her off her feet, Arnav made his way over to the bedroom, turning the light on before putting her down onto the bed. Coming over her, Arnav settled between her legs, his face falling to her neck so he could place kisses there. Khushi’s fingers bunched into his hair, pulling his face closer to her. His stubble brushed against her skin and Khushi giggled.

“Do you find my love making funny?”

“Were not love making though.”

“Am I not expressing my love for you in a physical manner?”

“You are…”

“Then this is also classed as love making.”

“Acha baba. We are love making. And no I’m not laughing at your love making skills, your stubble is tickling me.”

“I can shave it all off if you don’t like it.”

Eyes wide, Khushi sat up in the bed and cupped his face.

“Don’t you dare!”

“What?”

“Don’t you dare shave off your stubble. I love you like this.”

Moving in again, Khushi placed small kisses along Arnav’s jaw before taking his lips between hers again. Trying to push her back down onto the bed, Khushi resisted, just holding him more tightly and kissing him faster. His hands slipped down her back and rested on the clasp of her bra. But she broke away, stopping him.

“What’s wrong?”

Grabbing a blanket that was sat at the edge of the bed, Khushi clutched it to her chest and draped it over her exposed body.

“I… There’s something I want to talk to you about.”

“Sure.”

“I… Woh…”

Taking her hand, Arnav nodded her to continue.

“I… I don’t want us to make love again.”

Arnav looked up, his hand still on hers, his eyes expressing the confusion that had hit him.

“It’s not that I don’t want to do it with you, I do. But I’ve always been brought up to believe that sex outside of marriage is wrong. And I know we’ve already done it and that it was I who instigated it that night, but I don’t want us to do it again.”

Her point made sense and he understood how she felt. He placed her other hand on hers as well.

“Don’t worry, I completely understand. My family are the same. Nani and Di would kill me if they knew that I’d had sex outside of marriage. Especially Di. She follows every ritual and tradition down to the T. It’s okay, I understand.”

Placing a kiss on his hand, Khushi moved in to hug him.

“Thank you so much for understanding. Growing up in London, my parents always told me to go and find myself. But they always said not to fool around with men. And I’m serious about you Arnav, I really am, but I still can’t ignore what my parents have told me. It was literally the only rule they ever gave me. I know, I’ve gone against them once but…”

“Really Khushi, I understand and I get where you’re coming from. I have no objections and I respect your wishes.”

Getting off the bed, Arnav left the room, but returned moments later with the dress that she had been wearing earlier and her suitcases.

“You freshen up and get dressed, I’ll make some food for you.”

“You don’t need to.”

“I know, but I want to.”

Once again Arnav got off the bed and left the room. Khushi remained sitting in the middle of the bed, clutching the sheets around her, smiling at how understanding he was.

*****

Dinner eaten, Arnav was ready to leave.

“If you need anything at all, just call me and I’ll come over straight away. If you don’t, then I’ll just see you tomorrow.”

Leaning in on her tip toes, Khushi kissed Arnav lightly before pulling away.

“Thank you so much Arnav. I’ll definitely call you if I need anything but you’ve explained everything so I think I’ll be okay.”

“Make sure you lock the door and all the windows before you go to sleep.”

“I will, don’t worry.”

Arnav turned to leave, but then he remembered something.

“Khushi, I want you to meet my Di.”

“Di?”

“Yes. You’ve never officially met her as my business partner and now that you’re more, I want you to meet the woman who was the most important person in my life before you came along. Don’t get me wrong, Di still is the most important woman in my life, but you are too.”

“Have you told Di about us?”

“No I haven’t. But I want to.”

“Okay! Then I’d love to meet her!”

Pulling Khushi into a hug, he hugged her tightly. He thanked her and pressed a kiss onto her neck.

“So I’m going to go home and tell Di! I’ll call you later letting you know what she said and we’ll see when she is available to meet you.”

“I can’t wait!”

Saying their goodbye Arnav finally took his leave. He didn’t want to leave her, he wanted to stay with her, always. But she didn’t want that right now and he didn’t want to move fast. Their relationship was new and he didn’t want to do anything to ruin that. It may be too early to say, but Arnav knew that he wanted a future with Khushi, that he wanted her in his life forever, but he didn’t want to tell her all this and overwhelm her. Khushi was moving at her own pace in this relationship, and he was certain that she too would soon catch up with his love.

*****

“Come in.”

Pushing the door open slightly, Arnav stepped into his Di’s bedroom and shut the door behind him. He felt nervous, but he wasn’t going to back down, he needed to tell his Di. Khushi made him the happiest he’d been in the longest amount of time, and he needed to share his happiness with his Di.

“Chote? You at this time? Is everything okay?”

He looked around and saw that his jijaji was sat in the room too, working away. He didn’t want the whole family to know just yet, but there was no point trying to hide this from jijaji, Di would just tell him anyway.

“I need to tell you something.”

Getting to her feet, Anjali started feeling a bit nervous. She could tell that Arnav was feeling worried about whatever he wanted to tell her and this instantly started making her think about the worst things.

“Chote, is everything okay? Are you okay?”

Taking her hand, he say his sister back down on her bed and perched on the edge beside her. Anjali couldn’t help but feel a little anxious. It was evident in the way that Arnav was acting that whatever it was that he wanted to say was a big deal to him.

“Everything is fine, I just wanted to tell you something.”

“Tell me.”

Taking a deep breath, Arnav began.

“Di… I’m… I… I have a girlfriend.”

Anjali let out a sigh of relief, but then shock took over, this wasn’t something she had been expecting at all.

“What? Who?”

“Khushi…”

At this point Shyam looked up too.

“Khushi as in your business partner.”

“Yes jijaji.”

Shyam got to his feet, walked over to Arnav and pat him on the back.

“Good going Saale Saab! You picked a smart girl! I was always worried you would end up with one of those models that worked for you. Here you’ve picked a girl actually worthy of you.”

“Thanks Jiju.”

“But Chote, how?”

“I’ve had feelings for her a long time Di. But she wanted to keep a distance between us because of the business relationship. But things happened when we went to London and we couldn’t deny our feelings any longer.”

“Is that why you came back early?”

“Haan Di. She wanted some space to think things through and she needed to talk to her parents.”

Placing her hand on top of her brothers, Anjali smiled.

“I’m guessing she’s serious about you if she’s already told her parents about you, but the real question is are you serious about her?”

“Very serious. You know me Di and you know I’ve never really had anyone in my life before. No other woman has captivated me the way she has. I think she’s the one Di, the one I want to spend my whole life with.”

“Then you have my blessing Chote.”

“Thank you Di! I didn’t want to hide this from you, that’s why I am telling you. But please, Di and jijaji, please don’t tell anyone else. It’s still early stages and we want to take things slowly.”

“Your secret is safe with us Saale Saab. Don’t worry, we won’t say anything until you are ready.”

Nodding at his brother in law, Arnav appreciated what they were saying to him. The way they were accepting his relationship and accepting his wishes to remain quiet about it for now.

“Di, I want you to meet her. You’ve never met her as my business partner, but I want you to meet her now as my potential life partner.”

“I would love to meet her! Find out when she is free and I will take her out for lunch one day.”

The three of them continued talking for a while, Anjali and Shyam teasing Arnav about his new relationship.

“Wait! She’s Payal’s cousin. And Payal is marrying Akash. Just imagine, if one day you and Khushi also get married, it’ll be so much fun!”

“Maybe. But marriage is a long time away. We still want to get to know each other better.”

“I understand Chote. Any way, it’s getting late, you should go to bed.”

Getting to his feet, Arnav said goodnight to his sister and his brother in law and left their room with a smile on his face. Things were on the way up and nothing could come in the way as they moved further up. He wouldn’t allow anything to come in the way of their happiness.

*****

Sitting on the bed, Khushi brushed her fingers over her lips, reminiscing the passionate kisses that they had shared not too long ago. This was happening, this was really happening! They were going to try and make their relationship work. Laying back in bed, Khushi remembered all the passionate moments that she and Arnav had shared in the short time that they had admitted their feelings for each other. Pulling a pillow close to her chest, Khushi smiled at what was happening. Her life was changing, coming together in a way she never thought was possible. She was becoming complete.

Arnav too lay on her his bed, looking up at the ceiling, smiling to himself. He felt content, complete… His life felt more colourfully than it had ever done before. Life was perfect.

Arnav’s jet landed in Delhi and he was ready to get off and get home as soon as he could. The last couple of days had been so strange, so unexpected, yet had been so good. Taking his phone out of his pocket, Arnav realised he had no calls or texts from Khushi. Feeling slightly disheartened, Arnav put his phone away, made sure he had his luggage and got into the car that was waiting for him.

*****

“Arre Chote? What are you doing back?”

“I called my trip short Di. Something important came up.”

Anjali looked at her brother. He looked tired and she could tell he was slightly distracted. But she knew that if she pressed the matter, she wouldn’t get a response, he’d never tell her what was really on his mind. Not unless he was ready to tell her and it was evident that he wasn’t.

“You go and freshen up, I’ll get some food ready for you.”

“There’s no need Di, I ate on the way here, I’m not hungry.”

“Chote…”

“Please Di, I just want to be left alone.”

Leaving his Di hanging, Arnav went off to his room, slamming the door behind him. He didn’t know why he was feeling so angry. When he’d left Khushi, he had felt fine, but on the way here… The more he thought about what had happened, the more he realised he shouldn’t have left. Was she running away from him? Was she trying to run away from what had happened between them? What was going through her head?

He knew that he shouldn’t be reacting like this, not until she actually said something. And he definitely shouldn’t have reacted with Di, but he didn’t know what was going on in Khushi’s head. They had parted on a good note, things had seemed to be going the right way, then why in his heart did something feel wrong?

Picking up his phone, Arnav dialled Khushi’s number, only to find her phone was unreachable.

“Dammit!”

Throwing his phone aside, Arnav went into the bathroom to freshen up. Maybe a bath would help him to clear his mind.

*****

Sitting on the edge of the grand bed, Khushi touched the sheets and smiled. Memories of her passionate night with Arnav came back to her. She remembered the way he had touched her, the way he’d kissed her skin, the way his rough hands felt against her sensitive skin. She recalled the way it had felt to have him within her, the way he made her feel so… So complete… He’d made her feel so much and she couldn’t help but want more.

But she knew what she needed to do before she further committed herself to this relationship with Arnav, she needed to talk to her parents…

*****

“Bhai? You’re back already?”

Walking into the in house bar, Akash took a seat next to Arnav, who had a glass of vodka in his hand.

“What’s up bhai?”

“What makes you think that something is up.”

“You’re sat in the dark, drinking vodka on your own when you’re meant to be away on a trip in London.”

“Plans change.”

Taking the glass out of Arnav’s hand, Akash set it aside, and placed his hand on his brothers shoulder.

“Tell me, what happened?”

“I slept with her.”

“With who?”

“With Khushi obviously!”

Eyes wide, Akash took in what Arnav was saying. He’d slept with Khushi? His business partner? The woman whose business they were trying to steal?

“What the hell? How?”

“You realised it a long time ago that I was interested in her. And I was interested in her. Well turns out she was interested in me too.”

“So what’s the issue? If you both are interested in each other and if you spent the night together, why are you here? Surely you should be with her, making the most of the time alone.”

“She told me to come home Akash. She said she needed time to think about things but she said things between us would be okay. But look, it’s been so long and she hasn’t even sent me a text to ask if I got back okay. It’s been radio silence from her the moment I left.”

Taking in what Arnav was saying, Akash felt alarm bells go off in his head. Arnav and Khushi… They were interested in each other. His brother was hung up over the fact that she hadn’t called him in a couple of hours. This was going to complicate things.

“Bhai, do you think… Do you think you’re in love with her?”

Arnav looked up, his eyes sad.

“I know I’m in love with her.”

“But how is that going to work with the business and…”

“We’re both adults, we can keep our personal and private lives separate.”

“But bhai, we wanted to take her business.”

“Akash, I told you ages ago, we can’t. I don’t want to. I never wanted to. And now I definitely don’t want to. Please Akash. Drop this. God has given us so much, we can’t take her business away from her.”

It was evident that Arnav was completely taken by this girl. He wasn’t going to let Akash succeed in his plans and Akash knew that he needed to change his game.

“Okay, fine, we won’t try to steal her business. But I can still tell you’re feeling uneasy about something.”

“I think I just need some sleep.”

With that, Arnav got to his feet, bid Akash goodnight and made his way back to his bedroom. He felt slightly at ease knowing that Akash wasn’t going to do anything underhand regarding Khushi’s business, but Arnav still felt tense. He didn’t know why, but he knew something wasn’t right. Or maybe it was his heart was telling him that something bad was coming? Either way, he knew that he needed to remain vigilant. Nothing could go wrong. He wouldn’t allow it.

*****

A few days had passed and Khushi was still in London. She and Arnav had spoken on the phone a couple of times and they had texted numerous times. She kept reassuring Arnav that she didn’t regret what happened between them and that she loved him, but Arnav still felt uneasy. It didn’t make sense, but he knew something was off. But what?

*****

“Papa! I’m home!”

Walking into the living room, Khushi announced her entry with her arms wide open.

She’d already greeted her mother at the door and was now looking for her dad.

“Arre here comes my little princess.”

Karan Kumar Gupta opened his arms and embraced his daughter.

“What took you so long? You should’ve come to see your old dad as soon as you got back to England.”

“I know dad, I wanted to, but I had meetings and I needed to go to the office and there was so much work that needed sorting. I’ve barely had time to eat.”

“Lalita, are you hearing this. Our girl has been so busy she hasn’t even been eating properly.”

Laughing, Khushi’s mother came and sat down next to her.

“It’s a good thing I cooked all of Khushi’s favourite dishes then. I’ll go and get them ready right now.”

“I’ll come with you Ma.”

“No beta, you sit and talk with your dad.”

Leaving father and daughter to catch up, Lalita went into the kitchen to prepare the food. She could sense that her daughter needed to talk to her father about something. Call it a mother’s intuition, but she could tell. She didn’t want to disturb them.

Watching her mother leave, Khushi turned to her father, her hands knotted in her lap. She needed to tell her dad about Arnav but she didn’t know how he’d take it. What if he reacted badly and said that she needed to end it with Arnav?

“Woh, papa, I need to talk to you about something.”

Karan looked at his daughter and he could feel the tension emitting from her body.

“What’s wrong?”

“Papa… You know…”

Placing an arm around his daughter, Karan reassured Khushi that she had nothing to worry about. Taking a deep breath, Khushi began speaking.

“You know how you have always said that me and Rohan would one day get married, what if one of us doesn’t want to marry the other?”

Looking up at her father, Khushi saw that the question threw him off guard. He wasn’t expecting Khushi to ever say something like this and she knew that. She and Rohan had been brought up to believe that they were only going to marry each other, there was no other option.

“Has something happened between you and Rohan?

“No…”

“Has he said or done something to hurt you?”

“No papa…”

“Then why are you asking this question beta?”

“I just… I’m curious.”

“There’s a lot riding on you marrying Rohan, for both families. Promises were made many, many years ago…”

“But what if…”

“What if kya?”

“What if one of us falls in love with someone else.”

Karan got to his feet, leaving Khushi on the couch. Khushi realised that this wasn’t going to go well. She should have known. All her life she was told about Rohan, yet here she was, trying to tell her dad she was in love with another man.

“Who is it?”

“Who is what?”

“Who is the one that you’re in love with.”

Shock took over Khushi’s body. How did her dad know it was her that was in love with someone else? But then she remembered. Her dad always knew.

“Arnav Singh Raizada.”

“Your business partner?”

“Jee papa.”

“How long?”

“I… I’ve had feelings for him for a long time, but I’ve never acted on my feelings, not until we came here earlier this week.”

Turning back to face his daughter, Karan smiled his widest smile and came back and sat next to his daughter.

“Does he feel the same way about you?”

Looking away, Khushi blushed as she remembered her passionate night with Arnav. The way he’d caressed her body, the way he’d whispered how much he loved her.

“Jee papa.”

“Lalita! Come here quick!”

Running back into the living room, Khushi’s mother looked panicked. She looked at her daughter who looked as pale as a ghost and then at her husband who was beaming like a 100 watt bulb.

“What happened?”

“Our baby has fallen in love.”

Looking at her daughter, Lalita’s eyes widened.

“What?”

“You know Arnav, her business partner. She’s in love with him and he’s in love with her! Didn’t I tell you? Didn’t I tell you when we saw the merger party pictures that there was something between them! I told you!”

Hearing this, Khushi looked up.

“Wait? You knew…”

“We saw pictures of you two. The way you were looking at each other, it was undeniable there was something between the two of you. There have been rumours for months.”

“But papa, don’t you have any issues?”

“Why would I? You have fallen in love with a very capable man, one who I am sure loves you dearly otherwise you’d never risk your business.”

“Am I making the right decision?”

“What is your heart saying Khushi?”

“My heart wants this…”

Blushing, Khushi realised she couldn’t say any more, not to her parents any way. But they knew what she was trying to say and she watched as they embraced each other.

“But mama, papa, what about Rohan’s family.”

“You don’t worry about them, I will talk to them, I will sort it all, don’t worry.”

“But the promises…”

“Rohan’s parents are good people, they will understand. You can’t help who you fall in love with, they will understand.”

Feeling a whole lot of weight get off her shoulders, Khushi finally smiled. A real smile. One that showed she was at peace. They ended this conversation here and they all went to the dining room to have their dinner.

During dinner, Khushi felt her phone vibrate, signifying that she had a call and she couldn’t help but feel a blush come on. It was definitely Arnav. Her dad realised this and told Khushi to go into the kitchen and take the call.

Answering the phone, Khushi walked into the kitchen, her cheeks still bright red.

“Hello?”

“Khushi?”

“Arnav… Hi. I was going to call you as soon as I got back to the hotel.”

“Are you okay?”

Looking around, Khushi made sure that her parents weren’t around, or that they wouldn’t be able to hear her.

“Woh, I told my parents about us today.”

This caught Arnav off guard. He didn’t realise that Khushi was going to tell her parents about them just yet. He felt himself start to sweat slightly. He was aware of Khushi and Rohan’s relationship, knew that her family wanted her to marry Rohan. What if they said they couldn’t accept her relationship with Arnav? What would he do? He’d only just got her, he couldn’t lose her.

“What did they say?”

“They accept our relationship Arnav!”

“What?”

“Haan! Papa said that he had a feeling about us all along and he couldn’t be happier that I found someone like you!”

“You are speaking the truth aren’t you Khushi?”

“Really Arnav! I am!”

“Oh my god. Oh my… I love you Khushi! I can’t believe…”

“I’m coming back to India tomorrow. Arnav… Will you come and collect me from the airport?”

Arnav couldn’t believe it. She was coming back! She was coming back to him! Tomorrow! Her parents approved! Arnav let out a breath that he didn’t even realise that he was holding and ran his hand through his hair.

“I can’t believe we can finally be together. A proper couple.”

“I can’t either. I love you so much Arnav. Tomorrow can’t come sooner.”

Arnav and Khushi took their leave from everyone who was still there from the conference and then made their way back up to their room.

The moment they had left the dining area, Khushi slipped her hand into Arnav’s. They maintained a respectable distance between them, but their hands remained locked in each other’s.

When they arrived at their room, Khushi took the key card out of her bag and unlocked the door, pulling Arnav in behind her. Slamming the door shut, Khushi pushed Arnav up against the door and she kissed him. The kiss was fast and intense. Khushi shrugged out of her blazer and then began pushing Arnav’s suit jacket off of his shoulders. Their respective jackets fell to the floor. Khushi’s fingers were already busy, first loosening his tie and pulling it off and then unbuttoning the buttons on his shirt. Arnav’s hands were in Khushi hair, his fingers burning the skin on her scalp. Arnav pulled back slightly, breaking their kiss.

“Khushi are you sure? I know you wanted to put your business first…”

Pulling him back onto her, Khushi silenced him with a kiss. She knew what she had said, but she’d been fighting her feelings for him for over a year now, enough was enough. She wanted him and he wanted to be with her. Nothing else mattered. Maybe she should be taking things slower, but she was desperate to feel him…

Arnav realised that Khushi full well knew what she was doing and couldn’t help but feel excited. He took hold of Khushi’s waist and spun her round so that it was her that had her back against the door, and he was looming over her.

Arnav’s hands moved round her back, fumbling with the zip of her dress before pulling it all the way down. As he pulled the zip further down, the more it came away from her body. Breaking the kiss, Arnav watched as the dress came away from her and slipped off her shoulders completely. He pushed the dress down and watched as it pooled around her feet. He took a step back and took in her body. She was wearing black silky lingerie. He took in her full breasts, her nipples poking through the material of her bra and his eyes travelled down to her panties. Khushi felt his glare down there and she pushed her thighs together.

Moving back into her, Arnav placed his hand on her exposed waist as Khushi kicked her heels off her feet. The height difference between them increased and Arnav liked it. He lifted her chin up and pressed his lips between hers, all the while letting his hands feel her waist.

He lifted her off her feet ever so slightly and pressed her hard against the door and held her there, his body holding her up. Khushi locked her legs around his waist, her arms around his neck. His hands moved up her ribcage and rested on either side of her breasts, and his lips slipped down to her neck. Throwing her head back ever so slightly, Khushi allowed Arnav further exposure of her neck and he continued to place a trail of kisses on her neck.

Holding onto her, Arnav carried Khushi over to the bed and placed her down, then proceeded to part with his trousers which were starting to suffocate his member. Trousers off, he came over again again, one hand on her breast, the other trailing up her thighs. Khushi’s arms remained locked around his neck.

Slipping his hand under her bra, Arnav let his fingers play with one of Khushi’s hard nipples. He strummed at the little pebble before lowering his head over it. Khushi’s body lifted off the bed slightly, her hips brushed with his. His hands fumbled round her back and unclasped her bra. He pulled the straps out from under her and then carried on slowly pulling the straps down off her shoulders. He went slowly, giving her the opportunity to stop him if she wanted to. But she didn’t. Her breathing increased as he slowly began to pull it away from her.

Once her bra was off, Arnav took a moment to take her in in her full glory. She had beautiful breasts. They were round and perky, untouched, all his. He placed his hands on either side of either breast and pushed them together.

“You have such sexy boobs.”

Khushi bit her lip, suppressing a smile. She’d never had an issue with her chest region but never thought it was anything special either. But hearing him complement her, and feeling the way he treated them, she couldn’t help but feel proud of them.

Arnav felt his member harden and strained within the confinement of his boxers. He wanted to pull them away, but he didn’t want to come across as being presumptive, even though it was clear where things were going between them.

Arnav trailed kisses down from her breasts to her belly button and then lower still.

Khushi grabbed hold of his hair as he moved lower still, kissing the insides of her thighs. Khushi pushed her thighs together, trying to stop the feeling the was brewing within her down there. Arnav hooked his fingers into either side of her panties and slowly began to pull them away, again giving her enough time to stop him if she wanted to. But she didn’t. He pulled them away and then moved back to place a kiss down there.

“Arnav…”

He came back over her, his lips between hers in a passionate kiss, pressing his tongue against hers. Arnav pulled away, he needed to ask, make sure.

“Khushi, do you want this?”

“Do you?”

“Fuck yes I do. I want you so bad, I have done for the longest time.”

“Then I’m yours for the taking.”

He kissed her again, hard and fast before pushing a finger into her. She was wet, so ready for him. Arnav pulled back and pulled his boxers away. Khushi’s eyes fluttered open and she took him in. All of him. He was gorgeous, so muscular and tanned. All man. All hers.

Arnav reached out to the bedside table and pulled out a box of condoms that he’d seen earlier. The perks of staying at fancy hotels, free condoms in the bedside tables. He opened the box and pulled one out. Ripping the pack open with his teeth, Arnav took the condom out and pulled it over his length.

Holding his length, he rubbed it along the length of her entrance and Khushi felt herself going breathless. He wasn’t even doing anything and it already felt so good, like they were made to do this together.

He lowered himself against her, his lips near her ear.

“I love you Khushi Kumari Gupta.”

“I love you too Arnav Singh Raizada.”

Taking that as the permission he was waiting for, Arnav dipped his length into her slightly. Khushi gasped out, and her back lifted off the bed ever so slightly.

“Are you okay?”

“I’m fine, I’m fine.”

Slowly and carefully, Arnav pushed himself further into her until he reached the barrier, signifying her virginity was still intact.

“Khushi, are you sure?”

“I’ve never been surer of anything.”

“This might hurt a bit, hold onto me.”

Wrapping her arms around him and holding him close, Khushi braced herself for what was to come. Arnav took a deep breath himself, and pulled back slightly, before diving straight in, all the way, breaking her wall down. Khushi gasped and held Arnav close, tears prickling her eyes.

“Are you okay?”

He felt her nod against his shoulder. Arnav held still, allowing her body to get used to him. He held her close, and felt her muscles adjust around him. When he felt her body was ready, Arnav began to move, pulling back slightly before thrusting back. It took them a while to establish a pace and to get to grips with what they were doing, but it didn’t take long. It was almost as though they’d done it a million times before, Arnav knew exactly how fast he needed to go. Khushi wrapped a leg around his waist, holding him close to herself.

“Mm Arnav…”

Her breathing was fast and shallow, her hand holding on tightly to his upper arm. Arnav groaned as he felt her walls tighten around him. He kept going, feeling her muscles contract around his faster. She was close and he knew he was too.

They carried on, but not long after, Khushi spiralled off into oblivion and Arnav did too. He held himself still for a moment and Khushi held onto Arnav as the waves stopped crashing around her.

Slowly, Arnav began to pull away, pulling off the used condom and throwing it in the bin. He rolled back next to Khushi, and draped his around her.

“Are you okay?”

Moving into him, Khushi placed a light kiss on his lips and buried her head into his chest. Her eyes felt heavy and soon enough, Khushi fell asleep.

*****

The next morning came around faster than either of them had expected it to. Their night had been filled with passion, rolling over to each other over and over again, reaching out to the other so that they could make love again and again.

Arnav woke up first. He rolled over and turned to Khushi who was still fast asleep. Even as she slept, she held the sheets close to her, covering her naked body from him. Arnav shuffled closer to her, reaching out for her under the sheets and placing a hand on her waist.

He pushed her off her side and onto her back and came over her. He placed little kisses all over her place and began moving down her body. He had reached the valley between her breasts when Khushi finally began to wake up.

“Good morning.”

Arnav came up and placed a kiss on her lips and Khushi draped her arms around him.

“Good morning.”

“Are you feeling okay?”

“I feel great.”

Pulling away from her, Arnav lay down on his side of the bed and ran his finger down along the side of her face.

“Last night was amazing.”

A blush crept along Khushi’s face. She wanted to tell him it was amazing for her too, but she didn’t know how to verbalise what she wanted to say. Arnav moved closer, his hands creeping up to her breasts.

“Maybe we can have another round?”

Shaking her head, Khushi clutched the sheets against her chest and sat up.

“Can I go and have a shower?”

“Yeah sure! Of course you can.”

Looking around her, she saw Arnav’s shirt lying on the floor, the closest item of clothing.

She picked it up and turned away from him so she could put it on. Arnav watched, something about her putting his shirt on turned him on so much more than anything else. Khushi got out of bed, gathered her things and went into the bathroom.

*****

Letting the water cascade down her body, Khushi couldn’t help but recall what had happened last night. It truly was magical and she loved every moment of it, but she also realised she had some big decisions to make. Yesterday she had let herself rush into making a decision, but now… Maybe she should have thought things through before letting herself jump into bed with him.

Finishing up her shower, Khushi got out and got dressed, bracing herself so that she could face Arnav again.

She came out of the bathroom to find that he was still in bed, lying on his back, staring up at the ceiling, smiling. She came and sat down on the edge of the bed.

“Arnav, can we talk?”

“Yeah sure, what’s up?”

“Do you want to have a shower first?”

“No it’s alright, you tell me what’s on your mind first.”

“I… I don’t know how to say this…”

She hesitated and Arnav suddenly got a sick feeling in his stomach. Did she regret what they did? He sat up, reaching out to her. Khushi took his hand in hers and smiled.

“What’s wrong?”

“Arnav, I was thinking… I want you to go back to India.”

“What?”

“I want you to go back. As soon as possible.”

“But why? I thought we were going to stay and see the sites and you were going to take me to see your parents. Do you regret…”

“No, no, god know. I don’t regret what happened between us. It’s just… I have a lot that I need to think about. And I want to do it here, in England. I want to get my head straight before going back to India.”

“But why can’t I stay with you?”

“I feel like I just need my own time.”

Arnav ran his fingers through his hair.

“Okay, I’ll go back… But what does this mean for us?”

“That’s something I need to think about. I mean…”

“So you don’t know if you want to be with me?”

“No Arnav, I know I want to be with you, that’s one thing I’m sure of. I just need to think about everything else surrounding us. What us being together is going to mean for the people around us and our businesses.”

“But when you come back to India, we can be together, right?”

Leaning in, she pressed her lips between Arnav’s and cupped his face.

“It would take a lot for me to decide that we shouldn’t be together.”

*****

Arnav had had a shower and they have ordered breakfast up to their room. They ate slowly, enjoy each other’s company. When food was done, Arnav started packing his bags.

As much as Khushi wanted him to go, she couldn’t help but feel sad. She wanted him to stay, wanted to spend more time with him, but she knew there was a lot she needed to do before she could fully commit herself to him like that and he seemed to understand that.

When the bags were packed and Arnav had arranged his flight back, he was getting ready to leave.

“So when are you coming back to India?”

“I should be back within the week.”

“Do you want me to send the jet?”

“No it’s fine, I’ll make my own way back.”

“Can I collect you from the airport?”

Nodding, Khushi hugged him. Tears prickled her eyes. Why was it so hard to say bye to him. She was going to be back with him very soon. Arnav sensed her tears and pulled her away and wiped her tears away.

“Hey, it’s only for a couple of days, and then we’ll be back together. And I’ll call you and text you.”

“I don’t even know why I’m feeling so emotional.”

“I have that affect on women.”

Laughing, Khushi playfully hit him and Arnav pulled her back into himself. Lifting her chin, he moved into kiss her. Khushi rose up on her tip toes, wrapped her arms around his neck and pressed her lips between his. The kiss wasn’t exactly heavy, but nor was it light. It was the kiss of two lovers who didn’t want to part so soon, yet knew they had to for now. But the prospect of tomorrow was there, shining bright only a little distance away from them.

“Come back soon okay?”

“I will do.”

Arnav grabbed his bags, made sure he had everything with him and took his leave.

“I love you Khushi.”

“I love you too Arnav.”

“Come back soon.”

“I will, I promise.”

Arnav left and soon couldn’t come soon enough.

Arnav and Khushi hurried as they got ready for their day. The conference was to be held at 1pm. Khushi had picked out a navy knee length dress and put a black blazer on, and Arnav picked out a black suit, white shirt and decided to pair it with a navy tie.

“Do you like my tie?”

“It matches my dress almost perfectly!”

“I didn’t know you had a dress this colour when I packed it, but seeing as you’re wearing that dress and I have this tie, I might as well wear it.”

“Doesn’t it make us look like a couple?”

“It makes us look like two business partners who have a united front.”

Laughing, Khushi grabbed her bag and shoved her phone into it. Once they were both ready, they left their room and went down for breakfast.

Arnav went for a full English breakfast, consisting of scrambled eggs, roasted mushrooms, hash browns, some vegetarian sausages and sun-dried tomatoes. Khushi on the other hand, just opted for an omelette.

“Arnav that’s a very heavy breakfast. You’re going to get so tired after eating all that.”

“These types of conferences last a long time. And considering it starts at 1, who knows what time we’ll get lunch.”

Arnav tucked into his breakfast and Khushi watched, laughing, before turning her attention back onto her own food. He wolfed down his food faster than she could finish her omelette.

*****

The conference was nothing major, nor was it anything interesting. They spoke about the impact that Indian businesses were having on the British economy and what they could do to further increase the impact that they were having. Throughout the course of the conference, Arnav sneaked looks at Khushi. He watched as she listen tentatively, making contributions every now and again. He watched as she cross her long slender legs and then uncrossed them again. He noticed how smooth her legs looked, how good it would feel to have her legs around his body…

Arnav stopped himself from thinking further. He couldn’t think about her like that in the middle of a conference. He stopped himself and turned his attention back to the old man who was talking.

*****

After a long two and a half hours, the conference ended and everyone went down to the bar and restaurant to get some food. Khushi introduced Arnav to some of the most affluent Indian businessmen in the UK.

“I must say Khushi, you’ve come a long way since I first met you two years ago. And this merge with AR Designs has been a very good tactical decision on your part Khushi. I’m very proud of you.”

“Thank you Mr Khanna.”

Many of the delegates at the conference were people Khushi had met before and they all expressed how pleased they were with how far she had come in her business ventures.

“Mr Raizada, it was also a very good decision on your part to merge with Khushi’s business. She knows what she’s doing and I am more than convinced that the pair of you are going to reach great heights.”

“Thank you Mr Khanna. Your kind words mean a lot to the both of us.”

Many people had also praised Arnav for his business. Together Arnav and Khushi basked in the glow that they were receiving from everyone’s compliments.

As he listened to people talk to Khushi, about how happy they were for her, Arnav felt his heart swell. Khushi really had come so far from high school, she’d worked so very, very hard and she’d made such a name for herself. She did it all by herself.

He thought about Akash and his plans to take Khushi’s business and Arnav realised that the first thing he needed to do when he got back was talk to Akash and make sure that he knew that they couldn’t play their game with Khushi, that they couldn’t try to take her business from her, he wasn’t going to allow that to happen at any cost.

Mr Khanna left and before Arnav had the opportunity to say anything, a voice behind them called out to Khushi.

“Khushi!”

Turning around, Khushi gasped and rushed over to the man who had called me.

“Rohan!”

The man, Rohan, opened his arms and Khushi hugged him. Arnav lingered behind.

“What are you doing here? I didn’t see you at the conference.”

“I wasn’t at the conference, I had a meeting so wasn’t able to attend but I was able to make it for this bit.”

Khushi’s attention turned back to Arnav and she beckoned him over. Walking over to them, Arnav smiled and held out his hand.

“Hi, I’m Arnav, Arnav Singh Raizada.”

“I know who you are dude! Everyone knows who you are. I’m Rohan Malhotra.”

The men shook hands.

“Arnav this is Rohan, our dads are close friends, but he and I went to university together, so we’re friends in our own respect.”

“Again, great to meet you Rohan.”

“Rohan’s dad is in the Indian sweets business, hence why they’ve been invited to this conference.”

Rohan turned his attention to Khushi and draped his arm around her shoulders. The gesture was innocent, what’s an arm around a friend, but it annoyed Arnav. He didn’t like the idea of another man touching Khushi. At all. It didn’t matter how. He wanted to wrap his own arm around Khushi and pull her to himself, away from Rohan.

“When did you get back Khush?”

“We got here yesterday afternoon.”

“And you’re staying here?”

“Yeah, thought it would be easier to stay at the hotel than to go home.”

“Are you going to stop over and see uncle and aunty?”

“Yeah, maybe tomorrow or the day after.”

Arnav stood there, listening to Khushi and Rohan talking. He felt out of place and it was making him uncomfortable. Out of place.

“Khushi, in just going to grab myself a coffee, do you want anything?”

“No, I’m fine, thank you.”

“Rohan can I get you anything?”

“No, no it’s fine.”

Arnav nodded and made his way over to the tea and coffee stand. He took his time getting his coffee. He didn’t want to have to watch Rohan with his arm all around Khushi.

Taking his phone out of his pocket, Arnav looked through his emails and checked his messages.

When he felt he’d killed enough time, he grabbed his coffee and made his way back over to Khushi. But to his distaste, Rohan was still with Khushi, and his arm was still around her. He watched as Rohan leaned in and whispered something into Khushi ear and she laughed in response. Arnav clenched his fist, he didn’t like this, didn’t like it one bit. He walked over and Khushi smiled as she saw him coming.

“You took your time.”

“I thought it’d take a moment to check my emails and stuff, just to see if anything important came through. Did I miss anything?”

Before Khushi could respond, Rohan cut in.

“We we’re just laughing at the thought that this time last year we were almost married.”

Arnav felt as though he’d been slapped in the face. What? Khushi and Rohan had almost been married?

“Our dad’s decided that they wanted to turn friendship into a relation and were all ready for our wedding. But Khushi here, argued that we were too young and that she wanted to hold out for a while before thinking about marriage.”

“Really?”

“Yeah, but she only postponed the inevitable, we all know that ultimately me and Khushi will get married.”

Clenching his fist, Arnav counted to 10 before thinking of a response. Khushi was almost married to Rohan. Khushi and Rohan were still planning on marrying one day? No. No no no. Arnav had been having intense feelings towards Khushi before, but now, knowing that she was set to marry someone else, it caught him off guard and he wasn’t having it. He wanted Khushi, and he wasn’t going to let this smart guy think she was his.

“What if one of you meets someone else?”

“I know Khushi’s the one for me so I’m not looking at anyone else.”

“But what if Khushi finds someone else?”

“Khushi knows she belongs with me.”

“What if someone else falls in love with Khushi and he’s ready to fight for her love?”

“I’ll always win.”

Sensing the tension that was brewing, Khushi stepped between Arnav and Rohan.

“Arnav, I just remembered, I need to talk to you about something.”

Arnav nodded and Khushi took hold of his arm, ready to steer him away when Rohan stopped them.

“I need to get going anyway, but it was great seeing you Khushi. If you have time, let’s meet up for lunch before you go back to India.”

“Yeah sure!”

Rohan hugged Khushi and regarded Arnav before taking his leave. Taking Arnav by the arm, Khushi led Arnav away.

“What the hell was that?”

“What was what?”

“The way you were speaking to Rohan about me and our relationship.”

“He was acting like he owns you.”

“I’m basically engaged to him Arnav.”

“I don’t accept that.”

“Excuse me? Why does it matter to you what kind of relationship I have with Rohan?”

“I… Because I…”

“Because you what Arnav? I can’t have you speaking to my friends like that. You are my friend too but…”

“Because I… I love you Khushi, I’m pretty sure you know that! So why I spoke to him like that is simple. He’s acting like he owns you but he’s not the only one who wants you.”

The words, I love you Khushi, rang in her ears. She knew that he was attracted to her, but love?

“You don’t…”

“I do. I really do Khushi. I love everything about you and I’ve been falling in love with you for the longest time. But you’ve always made it clear your business is your priority and for that I’ve been pushing my feelings aside. But now, seeing him… I can’t keep my feelings in check. I love you Khushi and I’m god damn going to fight for you. And I know you have feelings for me too.”

Feeling slightly overwhelmed, Khushi took Arnav’s hand and led him further to a secluded corner of the room.

“What are you saying?”

“I’m saying I love you and I know you love me too.”

He spoke with such confidence, like he could see inside her. But he was right. She was in love with him. Arnav took a step closer, closing the distance between them.

“I know you want to do what’s right for your business, but I’ll wait for you. I know my feelings for you are real and true. One day, whether it be 5 years down the line, or 15 years down the line, I know we’re going to be together. I’m going to marry you and make you mine.”

Taking a step closer to Arnav and she reached out to touch his face. He was serious about her, he really wanted to be with her. Khushi knew how she felt about Arnav. Her feelings towards him were undeniable.

Arnav moved closer, there was no longer any space between them, one wouldn’t even be able to put their hand between them. Arnav placed his arm around Khushi’s waist and pulled her into himself. Khushi looked up into Arnav’s dark eyes.

“Rohan can think whatever the hell he wants, but your mine Khushi Kumari Gupta.”

And with that, he kissed her, hard and full on the lips. Arnav felt Khushi’s initial shock, but she melted into the kiss, kissing him back. Her arms wrapped around his neck, and Arnav touched Khushi’s face. Pulling apart slightly, Arnav murmured against Khushi’s lips.

“I love you, and you’re only mine.”

“I love you too Raizada.”

Smiling, Arnav took Khushi’s lips between his again and they kissed passionately, their tongues duelling for dominance, while their hands sought out each other’s skin.

Coming to her senses, Khushi broke the kiss.

“We can’t do this, not here, someone might see us.”

“So should we take this up to our room?”

Blushing, Khushi nodded. Yes. She wanted to take this up to their room. She didn’t want to think logically any more, she wanted Arnav and he wanted her and that mattered more than anything else right now.

“You can stay with me.”

Arnav’s head snapped back and he looked at Khushi.

“What are you…”

Taking his hand, Khushi pulled them away from the reception desk so that people behind them could get themselves sorted while they talked.

“My room is a big one. I’ve got a big bed and there’s also meant to be a big sofa. So one of us can sleep on the bed the other on the sofa, and we can keep switching while we’re here. Or if a room opens up, you can shift there after.”

“Are you sure?”

“Honestly I think it’s the only option we have. Otherwise you’re going to have to stay somewhere else and it could be really far. This way would be most convenient.”

“I don’t have any issue with this idea, but so long as you’re okay with it.”

“I told you, it’s no issue at all and I think it’s the best idea.”

“Okay, but you have to let me pay for the room.”

“Arnav, that isn’t necessary.”

“No, I insist. If you don’t let me pay then I won’t stay with you.”

“We’ll go half half.”

“Deal.”

Arnav and Khushi got back into line for the reception desk and Khushi notified the woman that Arnav would now be staying with her in her room.

“That’s fine ma’am. Enjoy your stay.”

Taking the key card, Khushi made sure she knew which floor and which room they were going to. She led Arnav over to the elevator and they made their way up to the 10th floor where Khushi’s room was.

They reached the room and Khushi unlocked the door and let them in.

IMG_0316

The bag boy behind them brought their bags in and Khushi told him to put them down the side. The room was huge and the bed was even bigger. Arnav looked around the room, it sure was classy. The room was decorated in red and cream with a large tv on one side. There was a large sofa to one side but it wouldn’t be big enough for either of them to sleep on.

“I told you there would be more than enough room for both of us.”

Arnav’s eyes fell on the bed and his mind couldn’t help but go there. The bed was large and looked fairly spacious, it was as though this bed was made for intimate things to happen on it. But he knew that nothing of such was going to happen on this bed.

“So er, Arnav you get comfortable, I’m just going to the bathroom to freshen up.”

She picked up her luggage and opened it to take out her wash bag and some pjs. Khushi then went into the bathroom and locked the door.

Arnav went over to his luggage and took some of his stuff out and began to fill the little wardrobe, making sure he left enough room for Khushi’s stuff. He looked over at the clock, it was only 7pm yet he already felt drained but then realised it was well past his bed time in India. Arnav took his phone out and connected to the hotel wifi and texted his family members, just so that they would know he got here safely.

The water was running in the bathroom and Arnav realised that Khushi must have been taking a shower. Arnav’s mind went into overdrive. She was taking a shower… She was on the other side of the door, naked. Arnav shut his eyes, trying to push the thoughts out of his mind, but he couldn’t. His mind conjured up images of Khushi, naked, water cascading down her body as she stood under the powerful stream of water. He imagined himself, walking into the bathroom, stripping his clothes off and walking into the shower with her, stepping in behind her and pulling her wet naked body against his. Arnav shook his head, pushing his little fantasy out of his head. He couldn’t think like that, he couldn’t, it would just lead to complications. It would make their stay harder to deal with.

The door opened and Khushi walked out, in her pyjamas and with a large white dressing gown with the hotel logo on.

“There’s one in there for you as well.”

Arnav nodded and grabbed his stuff and went into the bathroom. Khushi saw that he’d been busy, getting his stuff sorted and decided that she too should get her stuff sorted in the wardrobe.

*****

By the time Arnav had finished in the bathroom, Khushi had finished tidying her things away and was sat at the desk with her laptop.

“I was just making sure that I had all my notes for tomorrow’s conference. You did let them know that you were going to attend right.”

“Yes, I notified them as soon as I could and they said that it was fine and that they’d be expecting me.”

Nodding Khushi logged off the laptop and let out a big yawn.

“You’re tired too?”

“Yeah, really tired.”

“Should we call it a night?”

“Do you not want to eat anything?”

“I’m not really hungry right now.”

They both remained standing where they were, not sure were to go and what to go. They were both fully aware of the fact that neither of them would fit on the sofa. It just wasn’t long enough for either of them. Regardless, Arnav went over to the sofa and sat down. He reached over and grabbed a blanket off the bed. Khushi remained standing where she was. She knew he couldn’t sleep on the sofa, it wasn’t big enough and he wouldn’t be comfortable at all.

“Arnav… I think you should come sleep on the bed.”

“But where will you sleep?”

“I… I can sleep on the bed too…”

“What?”

“Neither of us can sleep on the sofa, it’s too small.”

“But on the bed…”

“It’s big enough for both of us and we can just put pillows between us.”

“Are you sure?”

“There’s nothing else we can do.”

“Khushi…”

“Seriously, its fine.”

Taking some of the extra pillows that were on the bed, Khushi built a tiny wall down the middle of the bed and then sat down on the left side.

“I’m taking the left, you can have the right.”

“I sleep on the right any way.”

Khushi turned out the lamp on her side of the bed and then reached out and turned the main room lights off. Arnav felt confused, unsure of what he should do. But then slowly made his way over to the bed. He got onto the right side of the bed and lay down and switched the lamp on his side of the bed off as well.

Once both lights were switched off, Khushi sat up and took her dressing gown off and then got under the covers.

*****

Hours passed, yet neither Arnav nor Khushi were able to get to sleep. Both were aware that the other was awake, but both pretend that they were asleep. After a while, Arnav decided that this wasn’t working and so reached out and turned the lamp on his side in and got out of bed.

Pulling his laptop out, he went and sat at the desk. Khushi lay still, wondering if she should get up and acknowledge that he’d got up or to carry on feigning sleep. She decided that she was going to get up too. Khushi sat up.

“You’re still awake?”

“I couldn’t sleep so I thought I’d do some work.”

“Aren’t you tired Arnav?”

“I am, but if I can’t sleep I may as well do some work.”

Getting out of bed, Khushi put her dressing gown on and went and sat on the sofa.

“You shouldn’t work now. We’ve been travelling and you must be tired. Should we watch a film?”

Arnav looked at his laptop and then looked back at Khushi. Logging off and switching off his laptop, Arnav left the desk and came and sat beside Khushi on the sofa.

“What do they have?”

Browsing through the film selection, nothing much caught the eye. That was until Khushi saw that they could watch Despicable Me 3.

“Can we watch this?”

“You like the minions”

“I love the minions, they’re so cute.”

“I was going to suggest we watch 50 Shades Darker but if you want to watch Despicable Me 3 then that’s what we should watch.”

Playfully slapping his arm, Khushi laughed.

“There was no way I was going to watch that with you Raizada.”

Putting the film on, Khushi grabbed hold of a blanket and draped it over herself and offered it to Arnav as well. They both settled down and watched the film.

*****

Light peaked through the curtain and the phone rang in the distance. Arnav’s eyes stung as he forced them open. He began to get out off of the sofa but the phone stopped ringing so he settled back down again, closing his eyes.

A moment later however, Arnav’s eyes snapped back open and he looked around. His head was resting on Khushi’s butt! He had used Khushi’s bottom as a pillow. How? When? When had they even fallen asleep?

Arnav lifted his head and made to get off the sofa when Khushi started stirring.

“Mm… Arnav.”

She rolled over and then went back to sleep. Arnav looked at her. What was that? Was she… Was she having a dream about him? Shaking the though away, Arnav grabbed the towel and went into the bathroom.

Stripping all his clothes away, Arnav stepped into the large shower enclosure and turned the water on. He stood under the water, letting it cascade down his body. Running his hands through his wet hair, Arnav’s thoughts fluttered back to Khushi. Their journey here, their small talk, the way she had laughed whilst watching the cartoon film. The way her eyes lit up when the minions hit the screen. And then his thoughts travelled further back in time, to the time when he and Khushi spent some quality time in the back seat of his car. He thought about how her skin had felt against his, how she’d wrapped her legs around him, and he couldn’t help wondering how it would feel to have her completely naked body against his… To have her naked body move in time with his…

Arnav balled up his fists and slammed one into the wall. He couldn’t think like this, he shouldn’t think like this. But hearing her almost moan his name in her sleep did something to him and now he couldn’t stop thinking about her and all the things he wished he could do with her.

Tipping his head back slightly, Arnav willed for the thoughts to go away, but they didn’t. His mind was going into overdrive and he could feel something going on with him down there.

Arnav looked down, and sure enough he was hardening.

“Fuck.”

Turning the temperature of the water all the way down, Arnav realised that a cold shower was all that could help him right now.

*****

Once his cold shower was done and he felt refreshed, Arnav reached out for his towel and wrapped it around his waist and left the bathroom.

“Oh shit!”

Khushi covered her eyes and Arnav turned around.

“I’m so sorry! I don’t usually have to get dressed before getting out of the bathroom.”

“It’s fine, it’s fine. It’s not an issue.”

Arnav rushed over to the wardrobe and grabbed hold of some clothes and rushed back towards the bathroom, but he hit his knee against the bed.

“Fuck!”

Arnav sat down on the bed and rubbed his knee. Khushi rushed forward and sat down.

“Are you okay?”

“I’m fine, just give me a second.”

“Let me see the damage.”

Kneeling down before him, Arnav showed Khushi where he hurt himself.

“Do you want me to get you some ice?”

“No, I’ll be fine. Let me just go and get dressed.”

Arnav got up and made his way off to the bathroom. Khushi sat down onto the bed and bit her lip. She may have only got a quickly glance, but she couldn’t get the image of water running down his hard body out of her mind. His tousled hair, how strong his arms and his chest looked. Though she only saw a bit of Arnav’s legs, she was certain his legs were powerful and muscular. How she wanted to touch his hard, wet body, how she wanted to brush away the water that was running down his body. How she wanted to explore his body further, see what he had hidden under the towel…

Khushi lay down on her bed and let out a huge sigh. She felt for Arnav in a way she’d never felt for anyone before. The physical attraction was obviously there, but she loved him as a person too. The way he thought, how caring he was, his business acumen. Everything about him was so attractive and she wanted him so bad. But Khushi knew she couldn’t. A relationship with Arnav would put too much at risk and she couldn’t risk it. But she wanted him, her body ached for him.

She’d never had him before, yet her body craved him. She wanted to feel his hardness against her softness. She wanted to be able to hold him close and bask in his warmth. But she couldn’t. The world had a funny way of playing games and this was one game she didn’t want to play. But she had to. If her and Arnav got into a relationship, it would make a mess of everything, wouldn’t it? Surely they couldn’t have a good working relationship while they were in a personal relationship? It would never work out, right?

Jalebi ~ Part 11

IMG_8793

Inches apart, their breaths were mingling with each other’s, their lips ever so close, so ready to connect. But alas, Arnav’s phone began to ring. Both Arnav and Khushi’s eyes open and they jump apart. Khushi took a step back from Arnav and ran her hand through the hair. This needed to stop, she needed to stop letting herself get caught up in moments like this.

Arnav answered the phone and Khushi looked around. A man came walking towards her and handed her a Polaroid photograph.

“I like to take pictures of people there. I hope you don’t think that’s weird. I don’t keep any of the photos I take.”

Khushi had a look at the photo. It was of her and Arnav, stood where they are right now, in front of the beautiful waterfall. In the photo, they looked so absorbed in one another, so close to kissing.

“Thank you for this.”

“You’re welcome ma’am. I wish you and sir a long and happy marriage.”

The man walked away just as Arnav was disconnecting the call.

“Who was that?”

Khushi showed Arnav the photograph that the man had given her.

“That’s a really nice photo.”

Khushi nodded and went to put it in her bag.

“Are you keeping it?”

“Do you want it?”

“I mean…”

Arnav ran his fingers through his hair. He did want to keep it because he wanted a memento but seeing as she wanted it, it felt wrong to ask her for it.

“No it’s alright, you can keep it. Any way, that was a call from a member of the cabin crew. The aircraft is ready and we can start making our way back now. Unless of course there’s something else you want to see or if you just want to spend some more time here.”

“No I’m okay, we can start heading back if you want.”

Arnav nodded and he and Khushi slowly made their way back towards where their jet was. Arnav couldn’t help but think about the almost kiss that they had shared. Khushi kept the photo! Did that mean she had feelings for him and that she wanted to hold onto what almost happened between them? Arnav shook his head, he couldn’t think about this, he couldn’t stress himself out over this. Khushi had made it very clear that she wanted herself and Arnav to be friends and maintain a professional relationship. He couldn’t assume something like this. But he wished he could ask her, just find out once and for all what was going on in her mind, but how could he ask her?

*****

Arnav and Khushi had returned to the jet and they were strapped in, ready for take off.
Once the jet had taken off, Arnav took his seatbelt off and waited as Khushi did the same.

“So it’s a 7 hour flight, I was thinking of going and taking a nap, is that okay with you?”

“Yeah sure! You take a nap, I’m going to check my emails and then I’m going to watch some tv.”

Arnav nodded as he made his way over to the bedroom whereas Khushi stayed in the main area and pulled her laptop out. She used the inflight wifi to check her emails and she replied to her messages from Payal, sending her pictures of the jet.

Once Khushi was all up to date with her business emails, she decided to see what films were on. There was a vast range of films that she could choose from, and decided to watch the remake of Beauty and the Beast. Khushi crossed her legs and got comfortable on the sofa and draped a blanket over herself as she got comfortable and ready to watch the film.

She watched the film, taking in everything that happens and when the film ended, she wiped away a tear of happiness.

Switching the TV off, Khushi decided to go and see if Arnav was awake yet. She got off her sofa and walked into the bedroom area to find Arnav all curled up in the bed, fast asleep.

Khushi walked over to the bed and sat down beside him and watched him sleep. He looked so different sleeping. His features were relaxed and his hair flopped over his eyes and he almost looked like a child. Khushi reached out and pushed his hair out of his eyes and smiled, he really was so very adorable. Arnav’s eyes fluttered open slightly as her hand left his face and he smiled.

“Hi.”

“Hey.”

“Do you want to lie down for a bit?”

“No, I’m okay.”

“How long until we land?”

“Over 4 hours still.”

“You should lie down and rest for a bit.”

“Really it’s okay, you relax.”

“Khushi, I need to get up and do some work any way. You rest.”

Khushi smiled and nodded. She was tired and would like to lie down. She moved on to the bed and sat on it.

“Is it okay if I just lie here for a few more moment?”

“Of course, it’s a big enough bed for both of us.”

Khushi lay down, facing away from Arnav. He lay there, staring at her back, smiling to himself. Almost as soon as Khushi’s head had hit the pillow. Her eyes fluttered shut and she went off to sleep.

*****

Somehow Arnav staying in bed for another couple of minutes, turned into another 2 hour nap. Arnav rubbed his eye and went to move off the bed when he realised he was being held down. Arnav looked to his side as his eyes widened.

Khushi was lying beside him, well more on top of him than beside him. Her head was resting on his chest, her arm around his midsection, and her leg up on his leg, her knee laying against his crotch. How had this happened? Did Khushi realise?

As much as Arnav wanted them to stay like this, he knew Khushi couldn’t wake up and find them like this. He gently picked up Khushi’s arm and placed it away from himself and then went to move her leg. But it was at that moment that Khushi’s eyes opened slowly and looked up.

Her eyes met with Arnav’s and she smiled. But her smile slipped away seconds later when she realised where they were. She jumped away from Arnav and sat on the edge of the bed, facing away from him.

“I’m so sorry, I don’t know what…”

“It’s okay, don’t worry about it.”

Khushi got to her feet and left the bedroom in a rush, all the while saying that she needed the bathroom to freshen up. Arnav watched as she left and ran a hand through his hair. Why was she so awkward when nothing even happened. It was no big deal? Arnav shook his head and went into the little bathroom attached to the bedroom and freshen up himself.

*****

“Sir, ma’am, if you would be like take your seats and fasten your belts, we will shortly be ready to begin our descend.”

Arnav and Khushi both made their way back to their seats and strapped themselves in.

“How do you feel to almost be home?”

“It actually feels so good. I didn’t realise how much I’d actually miss England.”

“Do you want to move back one day?”

“Maybe. I don’t know. I feel like India is the place for me to be right now. But I think my heart will always be in England, I don’t know.”

“Are you going to see your parents while you are here?”

“Yes of course! I was going to see them anyway, but I need to invite them for Payal and Akash’s wedding. I still can’t believe they’re getting married.”

Arnav smiled, not knowing what to say. He still didn’t know what game Akash was playing and if he really was marrying Payal because he loved her. But Arnav believed that if Akash really did love Payal as much as he thought he did, then he wouldn’t be marrying her just for his game.

“Do you think I can come with you to meet your parents?”

“What?”

“Can I meet your parents?”

Khushi was slightly thrown off at this request. Why did he want to meet her parents?

“Well I mean, were business partners now and you’re trusting me with part of your business now. I want to get your parents blessings so that we can proposer.”

Khushi smiled and nodded.

“I didn’t realise… But yes, of course you can meet them.”

“Where are you going to be staying while you’re here?”

“I’m going to stay at a hotel, I gave up my apartment the last time I left.”

Khushi thought for a moment.

“Wait, where are you going to stay?”

“I…”

“Arnav. Please don’t tell me you haven’t sorted accommodation out.”

Arnav looked at Khushi slightly sheepishly. Khushi rolled her eyes playfully at him.

“When we get to my hotel you can ask if they have a room. But it’s a popular hotel, in the heart of London so I have a feeling it won’t be likely that they will have a room. You always have to book there in advance.”

Before Arnav could say anything more, the plan was preparing for landing and so it suddenly got very loud around them. However before long, the plane landed and the cabin crew notified Arnav and Khushi that they could leave the jet.

*****

After completing security and claiming their baggage, Arnav and Khushi left Heathrow airport and were met with a man who was holding a card with Khushi’s name on.

Khushi walked over to him and greeted him.

“Arnav, this is Arjun, he’s my PA here. Arjun this is Arnav Singh Raizada. He decided to join me for the conference.”

Arjun gasped slightly but composed himself and shook Arnav’s hand.

“Mr Raizada! It’s a pleasure to meet you. I’m such a fan of your work in the industry, I can’t believe I’m actually meeting you.”

“The pleasure is all mine.”

Once they were done with the initial pleasantries, they made their way to the car that was waiting for them. Arjun loaded up Arnav and Khushi’s bags and they were soon off.
The outer London traffic wasn’t too bad, but once they got into London city, they were stuck in traffic. The cars were not moving and it seemed that they wouldn’t get to the hotel until late evening.

“Arjun, how has everything been at the office? Has Rahul been able to handle everything?”

“You have nothing to worry about. Sir has everything under control, and he follows every instruction you send down to the tee.”

“That’s good. Is everyone working with him alright?”

“Yes, it’s easy to work with him, he isn’t a problematic boss, but of course, we all miss you ma’am.”

“Aw, I miss all of you as well. I was thinking of maybe coming into the office the day after tomorrow, just to see everyone and see how everything is going.”

“I’m sure they would all love to see you again.”

Arnav listened as Arjun and Khushi talked about her business. He’d always known Khushi was passionate about her work, but now listening to her talk to Arjun and Arjun talking about how everyone was missing it Khushi, it hit him just how good at her job she was, and just how much people respected her.

He couldn’t help but think back to high school when everyone, including himself, looked down on Khushi. She really did do everything she could to change that, and she had. She made a name for herself and made herself a respected boss that everyone listened to and loved.

After a good hour of slow moving traffic, they finally arrived at the hotel. Arjun got out of the car and took the bags out. He summoned for the doorman to come and take the bags.

“Ma’am will you and sir be okay to take it from here?”

“Yes we will be fine, thank you so much for collecting us.”

“It’s no problem ma’am. If you need anything else, please don’t hesitate to call me.”

“I won’t, thank you so much Arjun.”

Arjun left and Arnav and Khushi made their way into Strand Palace Hotel.

Arnav gazed up at the large hotel.

“Wow!”

“You haven’t seen anything yet.”

The doorman pushed the door open and Arnav and Khushi walked into the lobby of the grand hotel.

IMG_0314

For once, it was Arnav who was lost for words. He took in the grand hotel. It’s not as though he hadn’t been in fancy hotels before but this somehow felt different to all the other ones he’d been to. The lobby was long, with a marble walkway, but red carpet surrounding it. There were also large red sofas, as well as tables and chairs were people were sat. Khushi walked up to reception and Arnav followed her.

IMG_0315

“Hi, I have a reservation.”

“Name please?”

“Miss Khushi Kumari Gupta.”

“Ah yes and you’re going to be attending the conference that’s being held here tomorrow as well?”

“Yes I am.”

“Okay, just a second please.”

The desk clerk checked Khushi’s details and then handed her her key card. Khushi thanked the lady and then Arnav stepped up.

“Hi, I was wondering if there are any rooms available.”

“Just a second.”

The woman checked on her computer but a moment later looked up.

“I’m afraid we don’t have any rooms.”

“Nothing at all I’m afraid.”

“Not even a family room?”

“No sir, I’m sorry.”

Arnav turned to Khushi.

“Looks like I’ll have to find somewhere else to stay.”

Arnav started to turn away when Khushi stopped him.

“You can… I… You can stay in my room.”
