Pardesi Pyaar ~ Part 4

Khushi was working her last shift at the coffee shop, saying goodbye to all the customers as she prepared their coffees for the last time.

“What am I going to do next year? Who’s going to make my Lattes just right for me.”

Khushi laughed as a girl who was in her earlier stages of college expressed her concerns about her coffee.

“I’m sure that whoever will take my place will be able to make your latte just the way you like it.”

“I hope so, good luck Khushi, it’s been great seeing you around and just having casual chats with you over coffee.”

“Thank you and good luck to you too.”

The girl left with her drink and Khushi couldn’t help that she had tears gathering in her eyes.

Somehow, working at the coffee shop had become more than just a job for her. She enjoyed working here and she enjoyed the people that she interacted with on a regular basis.

Khushi’s final shift was nearing its end, and after a number of emotional final conversations, Khushi realised that she hadn’t seen Arnav. She’d forgotten all about him and that she was meant to be speaking to him if he came in. Turning around, Khushi looked at the clock. 20 minutes and then she would be done.

Time ticked on, and Khushi was feeling hopeful that Arnav wasn’t going to come in, or if he did, she’d already be gone. But alas, god had other plans for her. The chime above the door rang and Khushi looked up to see Arnav walking in and towards her.

“Hey Khushi! I finally found you?”

“You’ve been looking for me?”

“Yeah…” Running his hand through his hair, Arnav looked around slightly awkwardly. “Yeah I’ve been coming in twice a day since the day we met, but you never seem to be here.”

“Wait… You’ve been looking for me?”

“You’re one of the only people I really felt like I connected with here and I wanted to get to know you.”

Alarms began to ring in Khushi’s head. He thought they had a connection? He’d been looking for her? WHAT?

“Did you ask anyone for me?”

“No… I didn’t and I guess that was a stupid thing to do, I shouldn’t asked when you’d be in. I didn’t think…”

“We graduate tomorrow… I feel like we’re a bit late.”

“About that… I was wondering if…” Again Arnav looked around awkwardly, trying to come up with the best way to say what he wanted to say. “I was wondering if you’d like to be my date for the after party.”

“Your date?”

“Well not date date, but yes date. I’d really like to spend some time with you and get to know you.”

“I don’t know… I wasn’t really planning on going to the after party.”

“You have to go! You have to celebrate your achievement!”

“I don’t know…”

“Please, for me. I’d really like to spend some time with you.”

His eyes were wide, pleading her to agree. Khushi knew she shouldn’t, she didn’t want to develop feelings for him. But at the same time, would one night really do any harm?

“Okay, yeah! Let’s do it.”

Grinning for ear to ear, Arnav pulled his phone out of his pocket and handed it to Khushi.

“Put your number into my phone, and so after the graduation ceremony if I don’t see you I can call you and we can meet up and head to the party together.”

Khushi took the phone and put her number in. His phone was the iPhone 7 plus in matte black. This alone reminded Khushi why she was hiding from him. His world was completely different to hers. He had the latest iPhone and she was using one of the oldest iPhones, which she hadn’t even brought herself. Katie had given Khushi one of her old phones because she’d had enough of not being able to WhatsApp her.

She handed the phone back to Arnav and he called her number straight away. The phone rang in Khushi’s pocket, but she was reluctant for him to see that she was still only using the iPhone 5.
The phone stopped ringing.

“You should save my number.”

“Yeah I will do.”

“So er, I should get going and I’ll see you at graduation?”

“Yeah, I guess so.”

Arnav smiled and took his leave. As he reached the door, he turned around, waves and gave Khushi a lopsided smile, and then left.

Pulling her phone out of her pocket, Khushi looked at his number and couldn’t help but smile. She saved his number and held her phone close to her heart.

“Did you talk to him? Did he show up?”

“Let me get in through the door.”

Katie rolled her eyes and backed up slightly to let Khushi in through the door. The moment Khushi was inside, she took her by the arm, dragged her over to the sofa and sat her down.

“Tell me, RIGHT NOW.”

Khushi began to explain to Katie how things had played out and what was said between them. Katie listened, her eyes wide, trying to contain her excitement.
When Khushi finished telling her what happened, Katie squealed with joy.

“What are you so excited about?”

“You’re going to the party with Arnav!”

“Yeah I know but…”

“No buts, he’s so interested in you!”

“We don’t know that.”

“Khushi, come on, if he wanted interested why would he have gone looking for you, every day, twice a day.”

“Okay, yeah I guess…”

“And I know you’re worried that you and him are from completely different worlds, but honestly, I don’t think it’s going to matter to him, and if it does, then he’s a jerk and I give you permission to just leave him somewhere and run away.”

Khushi nodded. She knew Katie had a point and that she was making sense. Besides, Arnav may be from a wealthy family, but he didn’t seem like a snob, he didn’t seem like the type of person that would push someone away just because they weren’t as rich as him.

“I don’t know what I’m going to wear to the party.”

“You know I have the perfect dress for every occasion, don’t worry, I’ll sort you out.”

“Katie… I’ve been attracted to him since that first day, what if things seem like they’re going somewhere between us and then it just fails. I don’t want to get hurt.”

“Just be careful and keep a distance. If things don’t look like they’re going the right way, then you just get out of that situation as fast as you can and we don’t look back.”

Khushi nodded once more, she could do this and Katie was behind her every step of the way. She’d been curious about Arnav right from the beginning and it seemed that he’d felt the same, so why not just act on it? See where things go? After all, what could possibly go wrong?

Author’s note

I would just like to make it clear, before anyone misunderstands what I wrote, which phone you use doesn’t matter in any way. Personally I do not believe it matters which phone you have, those were Khushi’s views, not mine. I personally am still using an IPhone 5s.

Also, last week I was gracious as to how my blog was growing and how my views were going up really fast, however this week my views have absolutely crashed. They haven’t been this low in months? So I don’t really understand what’s going on.

Anyways, hope you guys enjoyed this and I will be back tomorrow with and update to one of my main stories.
